Great list! To me, their self-titled debut ("The Offspring") is their best album. It's certainly my favorite from them. Don't get me wrong, they have several great albums that I love, it's just something about the debut that hits me in a different way. Maybe it's the rawness, or the clear T.S.O.L. and Dead Kennedys influence, or the just general darkness of the record that makes me want to listen to it the most. I agree with what you said about Ignition. That album is great, but I wouldn't say it's THE best or anything. It does have some great songs on it though (Session, L.A.P.D., etc.).

My favorite part of ranking video’s is the wtf moment when someone puts an album where it supposedly doesn’t belong. This of course happened when you put rage and grace #2. Initially I thought it was a mediocre album but about 2 years ago I went to see them and prior to said show I dusted off all of my old albums and that one really grew on me!!!!! Trust in you is one of my all time favs! I don’t think I’d put this #2 put 3 or 4 fa shor nice ranking!!!

Ignition is my favorite album by far. I got into offspring with Smash when I was a very young kid in the mid 90's, then found ignition off of columbia cd pamphlets, if any of you boomers remember that. And I liked it ok at first, but the more I listened to it the more I fell in love. Other than that it's a very solid list. You like the same sound that I do from them, and I have a feeling that if we met each other at a bar we would be immediate close friends!

I still really enjoy them. Offspring has for most part been really solid except for 1 album.
10 Days go By (1/5, yeah this album was a dud)
9 Let the Bad Times roll (2.5/5, it’s a Mixed bag. 50% is good 50% is bad)
    8 The Offspring (3/5, it’s a solid start to a solid Discog)
7 Splinter (3.5/5 it’s a really fun album. I do love how weird this album gets, not all the time but still good album)
6 Americana (3.5/5 I LOVE the 1st half of this record, but it kinda drags in the 2nd half though to my opinion)
5 Ignition (4/5 big step up from the Debut, an improvement in any way)
4 Conspiracy of One (4/5 My 1st Offspring album I ever listened to. I do have a bias towards this album and also I LOVE Original Prankster)
3 Rise and Fall Rage and Grace (4.5/5 amazing album. Their last amazing album they have made)
2 Ixnay on the Hombre (5/5 one of the best follow ups to a Masterpiece. I Love every song on here. Gone Away might be my all time favorite Offspring song, that song is so heart wrenching. Also 🖕FFDP for Ruining this song)
1 Smash (5/5, I mean it’s SMASH, This will forever be their magnum opus, nothing will top this album, Self Esteem, Come out and Play, Bad Habit, Gotta Get away might be their 4 most popular songs)

Good review man! I feel like The Offspring discography is kind of a tough one to rank seeing as The Offspring are pretty consistently good. Name any of their albums and I can list at least a handful of highlights. I was surprised by the order, which is part of what makes a ranking video fun! I feel like you are probably the only person who would rank ignition lower than the debut. I was also surprised to see Rise And Fall at the number two spot! I know people like that album well enough but I feel like people tend to scold bands for moving into more accessible or ballad-heavy albums. A welcome change to see a more recent release get some love. As far as my personal favorite album, that's tough. When I was younger I would have emphatically said Ixnay On The Hombre. Over the years however, Splinter has worked it's way into my brain. Every song on both of those albums is either good or great from start to finish. Pure ear candy! So yeah, Ixnay or Splinter. Let The Bad Times Roll is pretty new and I'm still formulating my opinion on it, but so far it's looking like I'd rank it pretty darn high. I've already picked out some highlights such as the title track, This Is Not Utopia, We Never Have Sex Anymore and Hassan Chop which just sounds fucking cool! Still, there ain't a bad song on the record.

I'm on a mission. to listen to all of the Offspring albums, I got 2 more left, right now it is such a tough journey
they started out pretty rough in my opinion with self titled, but ignition at the moment is my favourite album by them, that can change
Smash is incredible and a very close second
I thought Ixnay was very average for the longest time until I listened to the songs I originally didn't like, only this time I loved them.
Americana was the first Offspring I bought and listened to and was also the first album I bought ever, nowadays i like it but I don't love it
and now we hit the rough patch of their discography.
Conspiracy is forgettable for me, it started amazingly but started to dip as it went on and some of the songs didn't sound like the band at all.
I despised Splinter the very first time I listened to it but after a few minutes of thinking about what I listened to, it's not BAD it's just bad for an Offspring album.
I listened to F&R,R&G yesterday and it is easily my least favourite Offspring album, it had good stuff but the rest was either the most generic late 00s punk rock music, stuff that sounds NOTHING like the Offspring or just flat out garbage.I'm very hesitant to call that a good album, the other post prime stuff, yeah sure it's good.
the next album to listen to is Days go by and i've heard bad stuff about it and I listened to Gone Away - 2021 and.. oh man this is going to be tough.
I've heard so many different rankings from people and I think it's really interesting how some people's least favourite can be someones favourite and whatever whatever.
I might be wrong going into these later albums expecting the old band (I gave up at R&F, I just knew it wasn't going to be the same)
I love this band but they are so far from what they used to be and it is kinda painful
    but hey good video

Their album ranking for me is essentially the same chronological order as they released them. It's not that they necessarily got worse as they went on...they just went more commerical, more novelty tracks, more filler.
The self titled album is probably the only exception as it sort of fluctuates on my list, I have to be in a certain mood for it.
I will say, I've always found Splinter to be quite underrated. They really had the foundation for a great album. Lots of great tracks and a good back to basics style. However the shortness of the album and throwaway songs like The Worst Hangover Ever just killed the vibe. Had they went back and reworked a few things it definitely would have had potential. As it is the good tracks stand among their best, IMO.

  • @gergonikk
    @gergonikk Před 3 lety +1

I became an Offspring fan in the summer of 2000, so CO1 was the first album I consciously waited for. If they have a true sell-out album, for me it's Rise and Fall. So much of it is either unabashedly radio-friendly or lacks their own personality - or both. Ballads (Fix You, Kristy, A Lot Like Me to an extent), super polished dancy pop rock (You're Gonna Go Far Kid), sweet reagge-rock-whatever this is (Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom)... I also found this album to be very derivative. Half-Truism sounds suspiciously like Helena by MCR, Rise and Fall sounds like a second rate American Idiot, the verse of Nothingtown recycles Want You Bad... And Hammerhead which rocks is basically two songs glued together in the middle - and I don't like the production. Essentially the last 3 albums are my least favorites and the first 3-4 are among my favorites. I think Ignition and Smash are their best records, there was a permanent shift of approach that started with Ixnay and continues to this day.
PS. Splinter is criminally underrated. It feels different, sure but so much of it is cool fast punk songs. Worst Hangover Ever fucking sucks though. Aside from that & Hit That ("the goofy song" of the record, take it or leave it), the rest of the album is much more consistent than CO1.
PS2. Actually CO1 didn't age that great either, take Living in Chaos as proof. However the production is very good, thanks to Brendan O'Brien

Here's my list, no one asked, no one care, but I wanted to share it"
    10. Days Go By, their weakest album but I don't hate it, there are cool songs like "Dividing By Zero" and "Slim Pickens"
    9. Let The Bad Times Roll, it's very short and some songs weren't necessary (Gone Away piano version), 50% of the album is freaking cool, especially "Hassan Chop"
    8. The Offspring, I love it, even when the production isn't the best, which is logical, best songs in here "Elders" and "Jennifer Lost The War"
    7. Splinter, I recognize the lack of consistency, but there are songs that I absolutely love like "The Noose" and "Lightning Rod"
    6. Rise And Fall, the first 4 tracks are incredible, it's a risky album, though, but in general it's really good
    5. Conspiracy Of One, my first Offspring record, this is just full of nostalgia, best tracks "Dammit, I Changed Again" and "Million Miles Away"
    4. Ixnay On The Hombre, straight forward punk rock album, no complaints about it
    3. Ignition, to me no skipping tracks in here, one of the most underrated punk rock albums ever
    2. Smash, it's just perfect, not much new to say about it
    1. Americana, this may be the most especial album for me ever, I grew up listening to it every single day, that's way I put it in the first place 😂

I love Offspring because they unite badass riffs, drive punk and melodic vocals. i've seen people compare them to Blink-182 or Green Day, and that sucks. Maybe these bands are cool but they are not as cool as the Offspring. I always tried to find band like Offspring, but there is no. The most akin bands in my opinion are Pennywise and Ten Foot Pole. Bad Religion is different a bit a lot. And Pornofilmy sucks.
    This is my ranking:
10 - While doing this ranking I forgot that Rise and Fall exists. So... 10th place
9 - Days Go By: There are cool songs like 'Hurting As One' or 'Dividing by Zero', but other songs are boring or Crushing California
8 - Americana: I hate Americana, Like, Everything was nice and than BOOM, Offspring is Pop-punk.
7 - Let The Bad Times Roll: Guys are getting old. Hassan Chop is cool, and other stuff sound like Bad Religion. i love Bad Religion so i'll put it higher than Americana
6 - The Offspring: The alboom is just very cool, nothing more, but I think they should re-record it
5 - Splinter: Just the same as you said in video. But Lighting Rod is too cool.
4 - Conspiracy Of One: 2000s, skates, pepsi, MTV
3 - Ixnay On Hombre: There are only 2 albums in these world that I can listen from the start till the end without rewind, and Ixnay is the first
2 - Ignition: The most badass thing I've ever heard
1 - Smash: Thats the second album that i can listen without rewind. I love Ignition because its badass and Ixnay because its drive, and smash is balanced between them perfectly

Genocide is their best song of all times.

  • @arkbuildersparadigm564

I stopped listening to them after Splinter, because they just couldn't stop putting silly songs on their albums.
Smash came out when I was 13, and I've been a huge fan ever since. For a long time, they were my favorite band.
As far as ranking them, I wouldn't even place their three latest albums on the list.
I pretty much put everything after Splinter in a suck basket together, despite that they do come through on a few songs on each album when they are true to the speed rock sound. But Days Go By, Rise and Fall, and Let the Bad Times Roll are all equally the worst albums and really shouldn't be categorized with the early material.
Next, I would also place Splinter and Conspiracy of One together in a basket ranking (possibly including Americana), and I would say these albums are definitely better than their three most recent. And again, I really like their speed rock (or "punk") songs from each album.
If they would have just never included any of those silly, joke songs, then I could at least take more albums seriously.
So this list is based on the actual speed punk sound from each album.
