That Dying Fetus album is so good! Every track is strong, no doubts! Frozen Soul's album is awesome and so is CC's. Sadus's The Shadow Inside brings back that old thrash metal feel and that also rocks. 2023 has been an excellent year for metal, and especially Death Metal.
1- Thy Catafalque- Alfold 2- Majesties- vast reaches unclaimed 3- Wayfarer- American Gothic 4- Obituary- dying of everything 5- Blackbraid- ll 6- Tribunal- weight of Remembrance 7- Tygers of Pan Tang- bloodlines 8- Cannibal corpse- chaos horrific 9- Enslaved- Heimdal 10- Guts - decay Couldn't make a top 20 this year, as these were the only albums I came back to more than once or twice. CANNIBAL CORPSE-CHAOS HORRIFIC
Interesting list, I personally thought that Avenged Sevenfold’s newest album was the worst album of the year but we all have different opinions and if it’s your number 1 favorite that’s cool. The new Dying Fetus, Hellripper, and Horrendous albums are in my top 10 favorite metal albums of the year. I thought the new Paramore, Tomb Mold, Baroness, Spirit Adrift, Cannibal Corpse, and Suffocation albums were good too. The new Zenith Passage, Code Orange, Cryptopsy, and Frozen Soul albums were decent. Never been a fan of Sanguisugabogg and felt the same about their new album and was let down by the new Metallica. I want to check out Mutoid Man since Ben Koller from Converge is in that band, which does interest me in to checking them out.
I know this is all objective. I love a lot of those picks but your number one was highly unexpected. I was not a fan of this album at all. It was super nice to see someone else listed Frozen Soul in their top 5! LOVE that record!
Good to see you again! The absence of Cattle Decapitation was a bit shocking tbh, and I’m not really in on the A7X record, sorry😅 BUT my top 20 albums + 1 non-metal album at the end is here: 1 Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags 2 Chronicle - Where Chaos Thrives 3 Exelerate - Exelerate 4 Raven - All Hell’s Breaking Loose 5 Trimpher - Storming the Walls 6 Enforced - War Remains 7 Uriah Heep - Chaos & Colour 8 Bekor Qilish - The Flesh of a New God 9 Dying Fetus - Make Them Beg for Death 10 Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite 11 Genocide Doctrine - Sleepers 12 Angra - Cycles of Pain 13 Jesus Piece - …So Unknown 14 Alice Cooper - Road 15 Terrifier - Trample the Weak, Devour the Dead 16 Lipid - The Perfect Killing Machine 17 Imperishable - Come, Sweet Death 18 Graveripper - Seasons Dreaming Death 19 Anthem - Crimson & Jet Black 20 Ironmaster - Weapons of Spiritual Carnage Non-metal surprise: Rick Astley - Are We There Yet? Not huge with deat metal, but ill check some of these out. My favorite album was probably tesseract war of being. I just didnt listen to any other new records nearly as much as that album. And i wasnt a fan of tesseracts last two albums, but war of being might atleast be their second best album imo. Could be first depending on the day.
Great list POJ! I was very surprised with how well both the Cryptopsy and Suffocation album were. Olivia Rodrigo was fun. Also really enjoyed Code Orange, Cannibal corpse, The Bogg, Spirit Adrift and Hellripper.
There’s an album called ‘Treacherous Ways’ by a band called Helm’s Deep I’ve been listening to nonstop. If you like classic metal, NWOTHM that sounds old school but also new and unique. It’s so good.
Glad to see you include other genres on your personal list! Only poseurs listen to exclusively metal. Also, I don’t know if Dying Fetus are for me, but that album cover goes so hard it makes me want to reconsider.
Inamorata is probably a top 10 Metallica song for me now. Their best song in 25-30 years! 🤘🤘 I'm a huge fan of all eras of Metallica including the late 90s with Load and Reload. I know those albums aren't as "metal" as their earlier work but I think the songwriting is really good and the style they were going for worked. But I agree with everyone when they say that their 80s stuff can't be beat!
Suffocation, Dying Fetus, and Cannibal Corpse are my top 3 in some order. At first I thought Chaos Horrific was a bit of a step down from Violence Unimagined, but I grew to really like the differences in production and the shift of focus onto guitar leads and evil sounding riffs. I think it's pretty close to on-par, just lacking a little of the aggression and memorability of some songs on Violence Unimagined.
I feel Chaos Horrific and Violence Unimagined are pretty equal for me! Both albums have some really awesome stand outs but also some filler that’s still cool

I am a full blown metal head and love the new Olivia Rodrigo fan as well. She also made my top 20 albums of the year Also Frozen Soul is awesome seen them live 3 times this year

Sevendust - Truth Killer HONORABLE MENTIONS: Obituary - Dying Of Everything For The Fallen Dreams - Self-titled 7th Album Enslaved - Heimdall Metallica - 72 Seasons Cryptopsy - As Gomorrah Burns Dying Fetus - Make Them Beg For Death
Any year end list that doesn’t have Terrasite by Cattle Decapitation in the top three (let alone the top 20!) is invalid. Blackbraid 2 was also awesome. No problem with enjoying non metal albums though, personally I loved the new Blink-182 album this year, sue me. I let out an audible “ugh” of disgust at A7X being number 1 or even on a list. But hey, everyone’s allowed to like what they like! Good list
Thanks so much for including 'Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags' in your list!! Much appreciated! 🐐🐐🐐
Haven’t gotten to check out the new Sadus yet :( they’re on my checkout list since I love their old stuff
I’m old school thrash guy and mostly stuck in my 80 stuff, but Dying Fetus is so damn good!
1- Thy Catafalque- Alfold
2- Majesties- vast reaches unclaimed
3- Wayfarer- American Gothic
4- Obituary- dying of everything
5- Blackbraid- ll
6- Tribunal- weight of Remembrance
7- Tygers of Pan Tang- bloodlines
8- Cannibal corpse- chaos horrific
9- Enslaved- Heimdal
10- Guts - decay
Couldn't make a top 20 this year, as these were the only albums I came back to more than once or twice.
You have quite a few I haven't heard so I'll check out for sure!
Always enjoy your videos! Enjoy 🤘 ☕
Obituary went hard!
20. Shania Twain-Queen of Me (I saw her on the tour for this album and she had to lower the key in some of the songs down)

It's really interesting and funny how divisive it is. Literally a "love it or hate it" album
I really enjoy the new a7x album. I’d say it’s like an 8-8.5/10 in my opinion
Nice shirt!
Classic black metal isn't my favorite either, but i really loved "Erzdämon" by Mystic Circle and "Zwielicht" by Mental Cruelty this year
I know this is all objective. I love a lot of those picks but your number one was highly unexpected. I was not a fan of this album at all. It was super nice to see someone else listed Frozen Soul in their top 5! LOVE that record!
Good to see you again, man! You gave me lots of stuff I haven't heard yet to check out.
Heck yes!
Code Orange, Avenged Sevenfold, King Gizzard and Svalbard are my favourite records
Hell yes!
Good to see you again! The absence of Cattle Decapitation was a bit shocking tbh, and I’m not really in on the A7X record, sorry😅
BUT my top 20 albums + 1 non-metal album at the end is here:
1 Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags
2 Chronicle - Where Chaos Thrives
3 Exelerate - Exelerate
4 Raven - All Hell’s Breaking Loose
5 Trimpher - Storming the Walls
6 Enforced - War Remains
7 Uriah Heep - Chaos & Colour
8 Bekor Qilish - The Flesh of a New God
9 Dying Fetus - Make Them Beg for Death
10 Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite
11 Genocide Doctrine - Sleepers
12 Angra - Cycles of Pain

16 Lipid - The Perfect Killing Machine
17 Imperishable - Come, Sweet Death
18 Graveripper - Seasons Dreaming Death
19 Anthem - Crimson & Jet Black
20 Ironmaster - Weapons of Spiritual Carnage
Non-metal surprise:
Rick Astley - Are We There Yet? (Damn, I was shocked by how much I loved this record!)
Terrasite was really good! I just didn’t relisten to it too much after it came out so that’s why it didn’t make the list
5. 'Infinite Psychic Depths' by Outer Heaven
4. 'Horned Lord for the Thorned Castle' by Moonlight Sorcery
3. 'The Last Laugh' by Exhibition
2. 'Sator Arepo' by Judgitzu
1. 'Seasons Dreaming Death' by GraveRipper
A very literate, well presented video. Nice choices
Thanks duuude
Good to see you back, man, always enjoy your videos
❤️
Yesss finally a new video! 🎉
Could you rank the albums by The Beatles, Stones, Kinks and Who in one video?
Not huge with deat metal, but ill check some of these out. My favorite album was probably tesseract war of being. I just didnt listen to any other new records nearly as much as that album. And i wasnt a fan of tesseracts last two albums, but war of being might atleast be their second best album imo. Could be first depending on the day.
You’re back! 👍
Great list POJ! I was very surprised with how well both the Cryptopsy and Suffocation album were. Olivia Rodrigo was fun. Also really enjoyed Code Orange, Cannibal corpse, The Bogg, Spirit Adrift and Hellripper.
Heck yes!
There’s an album called ‘Treacherous Ways’ by a band called Helm’s Deep I’ve been listening to nonstop. If you like classic metal, NWOTHM that sounds old school but also new and unique. It’s so good.
Hey hello. Did you check BURDEN CALLED GOD? Belgium newcomer in the deathmetal scene.
Glad to see you include other genres on your personal list! Only poseurs listen to exclusively metal. Also, I don’t know if Dying Fetus are for me, but that album cover goes so hard it makes me want to reconsider.
The album cover was what initially made me hyped for the record! The singles were killer but the cover made me preorder the vinyl immediately
But I agree with everyone when they say that their 80s stuff can't be beat!
we miss you!
8:20 what are you referring to?
The new Code Orange album is amazing, crazy how much this band has evolved & grown
liked directly!
Hi collègue j’ai une petite question Aime tu le Death Core , Tech Death Melo , genre
´Downfall of Gaia
´Suicide Silence ´
´Venus ´
´Vektor ´
incredibly based no1 pick
1. Storming the Walls - Triumpher (Heavy Metal/PM)
2. The Conquest of Time - Century (Heavy Metal)
3. Treacherous Ways - Helms Deep (Heavy Metal/PM)
4. Throne of the Lunar Soul - Valdrin (Blackened PM)
5. Molten Rainbow - Antioch (Heavy Metal)
6. Dragon Skull EP - Dragon Skull (Heavy Metal/PM)
7. Nostalgia - Enforcer (Heavy Metal)
8. Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle - Moonlight Sorcery (Blackened PM)
9. Riders of the Ancient Storm - Heavy Load (Heavy Metal)
10. Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags - Hellripper (Blackened Heavy Metal)
I listen to a lot of traditional metal and PM. Storming the Walls, my favorite album of the year, blends dark and heavy and power metal with hints of more extreme styles so well. This album is the very definition of epic. If you want an album with BM influence (but not necessarily BM) I'd highly recommend both Throne of the Lunar Soul and Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle. Both are incredibly atmospheric and melodic.
Yesss!
Cool list fun to hear your different tastes. Must disagree with A7X. I like a lot of prog metal and I just think they missed it with this one. The first time I heard it I was somewhat surprised and curious, but after like 2 or 3 listens I just didn’t wanna go back to it at all.
It’s definitely a weird and divisive record! I get why people don’t like it but it just clicked for me on so many levels

1 - CATTLE DECAPITATION - TERRASITE
Obituary’s album went hard. Terrasite was good but honestly didn’t revisit it much after it came out so that’s why it didn’t make my list
@pairofjeansreviews2034 for sure dude,so many good albums this year I haven't seen so many completely different top album lists. Great to see. Thanks for the video, got some new stuff to check out! OK goodnight is a trip, never heard of them before but it's dope.
i had to stop when you got to 72 seasons bro! What happened bro? Are you taking the shit drugs or something? Nah..you lost me there because there was SO MUCh great music released in 2023. Ill check your next vid out but Come on !!1 Stay safe and be safe mr POJ
Lol you’re silly
Im not a metal listener but i found that avenged sevenfold to be extremely interesting even though the lyrics are uniquely terrible
1. Marduk - Memento Mori
2. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite
3. Skindred - Smile
4. In Flames - Foregone
5. Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream
6. Cannibal Corpse - Chaos Horrific
7. Orbit Culture - Descent
8. Autopsy - Ashes, Organs, Blood, & Crypts
9. Thy Art Is Murder - Godlike
10. Sevendust - Truth Killer
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Obituary - Dying Of Everything
For The Fallen Dreams - Self-titled 7th Album
Enslaved - Heimdall
Metallica - 72 Seasons
Cryptopsy - As Gomorrah Burns
Dying Fetus - Make Them Beg For Death
Terrasite demolishes. I’d say it’s one of their best alongside the Anthropocene extinction and monolith.
That autopsy record slayed too!
@@Coconuthut1 Agreed 😎
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 Yep. Didn't expect it to be that good😎
Any year end list that doesn’t have Terrasite by Cattle Decapitation in the top three (let alone the top 20!) is invalid.
Good list
Terrasite was good, but I didn’t find myself going back to it to much after like a month or so of release
No terrasite?? 😮
I liked Terrasite, but didn’t revisit it much throughout the year so I couldn’t justify it on the list
No Orbit Culture ? 😂
72 Seasons blows goat
