This version is from the 1977-1980 syndicated series and was on the first game show themed CD "Classic TV Game Show Themes." It was updated for syndication. The ABC daytime and prime time versions of "The Dating Game" always used the original "Dating Game" theme from 1965, the year the show began.

This is the version used in a Toucher and Rich bit. Adds a layer of smiles for me - nostalgia for the early days of that show.....

Recall Howard Stern used this for WNBC-era "Dial A Date" around 1984-85

This sounded a lot like Herb Alpert, and I thought it was Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass at first, but quite familiar because of the trumpet that he used.

And Whipped Cream was used when introducing the bachelorette.

I should add they used Roses and Lollipops when Jim introduced the one who was chosen.

OMG THANK YOU!!!! I have unknowingly had Spanish Flea stuck in my head for DAYS thinking it was a game show theme, and I've been searching through videos to find which one it was :-P

Actually it's Tom Scott and the LA Express (with additional horn members). The legendary John Guerin on drums.

While the theme song was not Herb Alpert's the piece played for the intro of the date to the stage WAS ("whipped Cream"). I had twisted that tune in my mind to be the intro to the Newlywed Game, which it was not. That was done for the creator of The Dating Game and the Newlywed Game (yeh Gong show too) Chuck Barris.

I don't think this was used on the 1973-74 syndicated version of the show, since its long run on ABC had just been cancelled at the time of its debut. I'm pretty sure this was used only on the 1978-80, from the clips I have seen. The closing theme that accompanied the goodbye kiss, though, began in the last year on ABC or so; thus, that may well have confused you about the opening.

The bachelor and bachelorette intro used Alpert's "Spanish Flea", too.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that IS what it is called..."The Dating Game Theme." Often mistakenly attributed to Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, it was actually recorded by Chet Baker & The Mariachi Brass.
