- This is the second version of the theme music used on the 1986-1989 version of the U.S. TV game show "The Hollywood Squares", which aired in syndication and was hosted by John Davidson.
This music was written by Stormy Sacks.
Whenever I hear this, I remember how fun the close of the show was with them showing random guests and them waving and such to the camera.
As a kid, I used to love when they'd do the extended version of the closing credits, with all the celebrities clowning around & happy and waving! They sure made it look like quite a party!
*LONG LIVE THE ‘80s*
Saxophone 🎷 theme song of season three of the Hollywood Squares (1988-1989)
John Davidson was actually a good host for this show.
♫ No matter what I do, all I think about is you, even when I'm with my boo ♫
Stormwatcher I always thought this song sounded like "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland. I wouldn't be surprise if they got it from this theme song. Stormy Sacks composed this.
Same which is why I quoted those lyrics
Adam B. Smith I believe they did sample Dilliema from this theme.
If anything, they sampled Patti Labelle's "Love, Need and Want You" from her album "I'm In Love Again". Look it up.
Am I glad I caught onto _that_ early on.
This theme song makes me dance to the groove plus I used to watch Hollywood Squares in the 80s and loving it.
Mr. Sacks was my music teacher back in the early days in New Jersey. He was awesome! I learned so much about music in his class!
He also did Ceasar's Challenge, So if You dont know that, NOW YOU KNOW!
@@henrytube5333 - Didn't know that - NOW I KNOW!!
Oh yes, he was THE BEST music teacher ever! I was in his music appreciation class and chorus. After he left for CA, the chorus was never the same!
@@barbaralynch3015 And Knowing is Half the Battle
Did he ever talk about doing the theme for this show?
Imagine if Hollywood squares would stay on the air they could use this theme song in every season.
I watched the 80’s version of Hollywood Squares when it aired syndicated on my local then-Independent affiliate WFTY channel 50 in its first-run in the late 80’s, then later reran in reruns on the USA Network as part of their afternoon game show repeat package Lucky Day USA in the early 90’s, until 1993. This version hasn’t been seen on television since USA stopped airing then.
"And here's your host, JOHHHHHHHHHN DAVIDSON!"
Shadoe Stevens sure knew how to say it right.
Shadoe also originally announced for the 90s version with Tom Bergeron. But I agree with you on his introduction of John Davidson.
Bring Back the Squares esp. John and Good ol Shadoe we MISS U GUYS!!
This is my personal favote of all the HS themes. Stormy Sachs made a smart choice to use the saxophone here, just as he did later on when he wrote the music for Caesars Challenge.
@ddavenport Personal opinion:
The best of all of the HS themes. I love the sound of a sweet saxophone and Stomy Sacks rocked it!
Is he really playing the sax?
@@williamjefferson6234 Oh yeah!
Some of our departing contestants will receive...
Wow, I love this version!!!
My 7th Favorite Game Show Theme Song of all-time.
I remember seeing The 80s version of Hollywood Squares when it reran on the USA Network in the 90s (along with Dick Clark's Pyramids, Press Your Luck, Scrabble, etc on a game show block "Lucky Day USA" hosted by the same guy who hosted Hollywood Squares John Davidson) and on my local CBS affiliate WSPA channel 7 on its first run. But WSPA dropped the Hollywood Squares in the final season (1988-1989) when they replaced it with Family Feud (Ray Combs syndie version) and Win Lose or Draw.
This is the theme from season three of the 1980's version of The Hollywood Squares (1988-89)
2:09 - "Why is my name is spelled 'Davison'? It's Davidson!"
Alf - "We couldn't fit the extra D on there."
XD
This Current Theme Is Played From September 1988 To September 1989. THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!
This is a nice intro to dance with
I prefer this second version of the 1986-1989 theme to the first version.
More game show themes today need the sax. It is just an awesome instrument.
@Derrick Williams I say to this day that the sax is the most underrated musical instrument on the planet.
@smjefferson1 That was a REAL Sax. Stomy Sacks was the genius for this theme.
“Tic Tac Dough”, 3 in a row!!
I think I remember my longtime friend Alf.
ALL OUR FOOD KEEPS BLOWING UP
Happy Trails To You Until We Meet Again Played
When The Staff Of Hollywood Squares Holding Signs
With Their Names On Singing On The Finale And Then
The Audience, John Davidson, Shadow Stevens, Joan Rivers,
Jm J. BULLOCK, Other Celebrities, And The Staff Disappears.
Then The Hollywood Squares Light Logo Turns Off.
And The Studio Turned Off And The Balloons Fall At The End
And The Orion Television Syndications Appears At The End
@bluebear1985 If John Davidson would host one show for a revival, I'd be more than honored to introduce him myself. Part Shadoe Stevens, Part Bruce Buffer from the UFC. It would sound like this:
"And Here's Your Host... JOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN DAVID-SON!!!" :)
@DBR00 This version rocks!
Yes, when I get around to transferring it from cassette to CD.
The NEW Hollywood Squares was only the 2nd collaboration between Rick Rosner, Century Towers Productions and Orion Television who produced Just Men! with Game Show Supreme Betty White and the 2nd collaboration with Rosner and Stormy Sacks who not only composed the theme to Just Men! but also Caesars Challenge with Ahmad Rashad (Co-Produced by The Cannell Library)
Not only is Rick Rosner (the Producer of this version of HS) best known as the Creator of Just Men! with Betty White and Caesars Challenge with Ahmad Rashad, but he is also best known for Creating Prime Time Shows like the Action Drama 240-Robert with Mark Harmon and Joanna Cassidy (co-produced by FILMWAYS who owned Heatter-Quigley and Ruby-Spears at the time), the Comedy-Drama Lottery! with Marshall Colt and Ben Murphy (also co-produced by Orion Television) and his best known work was Creating the Cop Comedy-Drama "CHiPs" with Larry Wilcox, Robert Pine, Randi Oakes aka Mrs. Gregory Harrison and International TV Icon Erik Estrada as Everyone's Favorite Motorcycle Cop Ponch (co-produced by MGM Television and Distributed by Turner Entertainment and owned by Warner Bros. Television)
God Bless You Mr. Rosner and God Bless You Mr. Sacks for makin' this an awesome theme, God Bless You Shadoe Stevens for a job well done on your announcing, but most of all, God Bless You Miss Rivers, Thanks for the Laughs and May You R.I.P.
Peter Marshall's Version and John Davidson's Version are owned by MGM (who bought Filmways and Orion Television) and Tom Bergeron's Version is owned by Columbia Tri Star/SONY and CBS (who bought King World)
I wonder why Rosner Television Logo did not appear on this version of HS? also, I wonder why Merrill Heatter didn't produce this version? Was it the decision by Orion Television? plus, we know that Betty White and Ahmad Rashad both appeared on this version of HS, but did any of the "CHiPs" stars Larry Wilcox, Erik Estrada or Robert Pine appear on this version?
Heatter collaborated with Century Towers Productions and Orion Television on High Rollers w/Wink Martindale during the 87/88 Season
Plus, is this true that Merrill Heatter criticized the show by calling it a circus?
The final season of Hollywood Squares was distributed by LBS Communications Inc. in was in credit but no LBS logo at the end.
Thank You for this!
I love this theme so much!
You've made so many people happy!!
Where did you get this from?
Yes
I used to love the 1998 theme the most but this one tops that.
And don't get me started on Hip Hop Squares, that killed Hollywood Squares, Bergeron, Davidson, and Marshall's versions are the way to go.
I like Marshall's version of Hollywood Squares where they had 3 secret squares!💵💵💵
Jason Bertalotto That's the best part of that version but I prefer the secret square noise from Davidson's version.
Bells and sirens!
Jason Bertalotto That's the one.
In Marshall's Squares, trumpets and echoes were the sounds of the secret square! The biggest secret square prize was $25,000 in 1979!📺💵💵💵💵💵💵
Cue Shadoe:
In the Center Square: From 2 and 1 Men Charlie Sheen
In the Upper left: Jm J. Bullock
From Office: Michelle Obama
From the Price is Right: Bob Barker
From Tv''s Bloopers: Dick Clark
From American Idol: Paula Abdul
From the New Adventures of Old Crhistine: Julia Louise Dryfus
From Rock and Roll: Bruce Springsteen
And I'm The Shadoe!
We are the New Hollywood Squares!
From the Center Square, Joan Rivers...
From NFL Films, Scott Graham...
From WWE, Renee Young and Cathy Kelley...
From the Army Square, Jim J. Bullock...
From Let’s Make a Deal, Wayne Brady...
From Glee, Amber Riley...
From The Hugabug Club, Audrey and Judy Landers...
From Seether, Shaun Morgan...
And me, I’m Shadoe Stevens! WE ARE THE NEW HOLLYWOOD SQUARES!!!!!! AND HERE’S YOUR HOST, JOHN DAVIDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always liked red jacket Fridays
Ain't that the truth!
Does anyone have the music they play before the theme song comes on? its the music they play while the introduce the stars in the squares.
thanks
Both music 1 and 2 can be renamed "closing theme"!
You can identify them by the season they were introduced. In this case, this was the Season 3 main theme.
What funk! Almost sounds like Nelly's "Dilemma"...
No it does not. It sounds nothing like it
@@GCBlues45 Take another listen to the melody, then compare. You'll see.
@@Ian16545 i don't have too. If it did the owners of this song can sue Nelly.
My life's well be right back theme
This is the version of The Hollywood Squares where it trolls you in music if you fail to unlock the car, right?
Actually it's when you fail to start the car, but you're close.
Well, Bergeron's sort of did the same thing, only with a whiny "Oh, Noooooo!"
PIX Promos & More That for the car and a sad melancholy version of Womp, womp, womp, woommmmmpp for failing to unlock any of the other big prizes (I.e. the Steamer Trunk for the Big Trips or the Safe with the big money).
@@cutemimi25 Which car bonus game do you prefer? The first one which was the same to the 1970s Split Second bonus round or the second one used in the final season (1988-1989)?
@@wecantfightgravity 1988-1989
That never occurred to me that there was a similar bonus game in that, except with only one car.
2:36, John's name is spelled wrong.
no room , says alf
Is this a 🎷 playing or a synthesizer?
To me its sounds like a real sax
This is real sax. Stormy Sacks (real name) is the composer of this theme. He has another shorter theme that was used mainly for TV during this series. You can find it on operator35's channel as Version #1.
His name is misspelled. OOPS!
"Louie Anderson to block."
circle gets the square
at 2:43 I wonder who got fired for spelling John Davidson's name wrong on the square?
DBradshaw25 They probably couldn’t fit his whole last name due to the small name display.
Jim Khansouvong I don't think so - if you look at other episodes they fit longer names in there. Misspelling a name I don't think is an option lol
No room! : Alf
They should bring this show back WITHOUT JOAN RIVERS!
I'm surprised that CBS, ABC, NBC, or Fox don't think of this show to bring back. All but Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour all had great runs. The downfall of this version was being syndicated because in some major markets they where on late at night.
Actually, the show has been revived on VH1 as "Hip Hop Squares", after a brief run on MTV2.
@@michaelglickman1300 But the real Hollywood Squares never got revived after its cancellation in 2004.
My local CBS affiliate WSPA channel 7 dropped Hollywood Squares in the final season to only be replaced by Family Feud Ray Combs syndie version and Win Lose or Draw.
@emlsox4life
Ding ding! Yup!
@DrFubarProzak Whoa, hold on a second! First off,I know it's not a wrestling vid. Second, carchatube was the one who saw the resemblance. And,third--chill.
@carchavtube Eric Bischoff right?
The picture is from the 1985 pilot, it also appeared in the December 1986 issue of TV Game SHow Magazine and on the box cover of the Gametek computer game.
To me, the first one is better.
you will never see this version on GSN because of certain contractual problems with Sony, who owns this version.
Sony owns GSN as well.
Amazon now owns this and the Marshall version of the show since it acquired MGM in May of this year.
sounds like a k-mart jingle lmao
This was an interesting incarnation of "Hollywood Squares", but for those who don't know this, the bonus game was stolen from a show from the 70s, "Split Second", hosted by Tom Kennedy. Because of this, I'm surprised Hatos-Hall didn't try and sue Century Towers Productions and Orion Television, who owned the rights to Hollywood Squares at the time.
Then again, HAtos-Hall would've sued them earlier when Rosner/Century Towers/Orion also did it for Just Men!
For a while a certain wrestling promoter was a dead ringer fir John Davidson...just saying.
