  • In this video I'm in Torrevecchia Teatina, a town in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo and precisely in the Torremontanara district at the church of San Pasquale Baylon. The construction of this church dates back to the 19th century after the discovery, by local farmers near the Alento river, of a simulacrum of San Pasquale Baylon. It was originally intended as a family chapel and had a square plan. Later it was enlarged and equipped with a bell tower. The style of the church reflects the style of the Theatine rural votive chapels. The brick facade has a sloping profile and a frame all around with mirrors and openings. In the center is the architraved portal with a curvilinear tympanum, the mullioned window aligned and on the sides small window niches with decorated majolica. On the right side the volume of the side chapel develops with a sloping profile and the bell tower at the rear. The internal plant in the form of a Latin cross with an apse with a chapel on the right side is covered with a barrel vault over the nave and arms, a ribbed vault over the crossing span, an apsidal semi-chapel and a flat attic over the chapel. The external roof has sloping pitches with a tiled mantle. The internal decoration is essentially made up of simple stuccoes and pictorial decorations with a prevailing chromatic value. In the lunette of the chapel there is a painted representation with scenes from the life of the saint.
The bell tower, with a pyramidal ending, is punctuated by the mullioned windows and the openings of the belfry in which the 4 concert bells are placed. The original plant of the historic Giuseppe Morellato of Musano di Trevigiano (UD) is managed by the A.C.O. (ex Italsonor Rovato) of Fara Filiorum Petri. In the video we see the Solemn Sound (Plenum), taken from the belfry.
