I've got an abalone shell, and I think I can find a few more. I want to learn how to do inlay, from dry half-shells to completion. I was taught how to inlay shaped pieces into wood (and how to profile those shapes from ready-made blanks) by a luthiery teacher some years ago, but never thought to learn about starting with the harvested shell until recently. I have plenty of questions, but I'll keep it down to one. Can a thick blank be resawn into multiple sheets, and still offer good color, density, and figure? Thanks for making the nice video, BTW. To me, it was like being a kid watching a Christmas movie.
This is a lot of work! But those shells look really great. What i would like to know is how they make mother of Pearl laminate/ sheets that are 0.3mm thick. I seriously doubt that it would be possible for any regular hobbyist to do but would like to know how it is done

There's what u use to cut any kind of shell,a diamond saw with water! Dangerous to cut it dry!! Or a tile saw will do it also.
I got a wet/dry tile saw, but the blades leave a wide kerf, compared to in this vid; I wonder where they get such a THIN-kerf diamond blade??
