    That is really poor quality engraving. The cuts only have one value and they come out as simply a line of one thickness. They are not using actual gravers. Also … who engraves pearl before inlaying into the fingerboard?

    I’m late to the party, but I see no replies to the questions about the filler used, so I’ll jump in anyway…it’s called William Laskin’s Special Blend; it’s a black filler specifically designed for engraved shell, pearl, and metal inlay work.

    My brother made the most beutiful tables with native birds made from inlayed mother of pearl. The tables where so beutiful but I had no idea how much work he put into them until now or how dangerous the work was. No one has made anything close to the table he use to make yet. No one made those kind of tables except him. Those tables would be worth alot of money now and a beutiful family heirloom.

    I,ve watched about two minutes of this ...it,s a nightmare ...so dangerous ...if these poor workers don't bleed to death with an injury ...they will die from shell dust anyway ...those dirty masks arrant much help ...ever hear of health and safety while you get rich ...disgusting ...I absolutely loves shells and pearl but this is like a massacre...human life is cheap here ...do something about these conditions ...from Australia

      thank you nola, my thoughts exactly. the ones doing the handsawing. the dust flying everywhere. so so sad!! even the woman with the plastic sealing machine...more toxicity. that man cutting shells on an exposed saw blade: that is 100% WRONG! this whole video made me feel horror!

    There's what u use to cut any kind of shell,a diamond saw with water! Dangerous to cut it dry!! Or a tile saw will do it also.

      I got a wet/dry tile saw, but the blades leave a wide kerf, compared to in this vid; I wonder where they get such a THIN-kerf diamond blade??

    Wearing a cloth mask that’s saturated with silica dust. Not to mention his clii I thing. Yea.... future lung health issues for him and others in his family. At the very least use some water while cutting.
