The tips are great. Also, try having a routine the last 30 minutes before going to sleep such as putting the phone down, turning off the computer and getting some water. Your routine can vary, but doing this every day will let your mind and body know it's time to fall asleep. Soothing sleeping music can also calm down your brain from overthinking and relax your senses into sleep.

I used to struggle with that a lot until I started sleeping on a consistent schedule (I didn't choose to, I had kids) - same time to bed, same time up in the morning, with a good 8 hour stretch between. This means not sleeping in on weekends. It locks in your circadian rhythm so that your body knows when to expect being up every day according to how your hormones are synced with sunlight. I've been getting up at 7am consistently for about 3 years and I feel like I can get up so much easier now. The few times I've slept in on a saturday, I felt terrible for days after and I struggled to wake up the next few mornings.

But having a job that's just a lot of fun to me with nice co-workers made it so much easier.

*Step 4:* Fall into a coma and have a nice, long sleep.

    Very instructive,
But there's something that felt wrong about caffeine, half life doesn't mean that it'll take twice that time to fully eliminate,
It means that it will take that time to eliminate 50% of the previous quantity.
    So 6h to eliminate 50%,
then 6h other hours to eliminate 50% of the remaining 50% and so on.
So way more than 12h to achieve a negligible quantity, that's why it's highly recommended to drink caffeine as soon as possible during the day.
Also I would've appreciated if you'd given the time before bed when we should decrease light and blue light because "before sleep" or "during the evening" is not very accurate. And i see different opinions on that everywhere.
    Otherwise, I loved that video!

I had terrible anxiety, mostly when I slept, for many years. I would fall into bed, exhausted, only to immediately think about everything from grades to nutrition. I ended up with a few hacks:
1)My mom had recommended to listen to books or television shows, but when I did that I would stay up to hear what happened. I finally found the solution: Listening to books in other languages. Personally, I listen to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in French. It distracts me from my fears, but doesn't keep me up.
2)Remove the clock. It makes each minute feel stressful, and you get even more nervous.
    3) Create a schedule and stick to it. Like really. Do not change it. I even set an alarm for when to start going to bed.

I agree about the sleepy driving thing.
I once had to drive 60 miles on like 4 hours and was ok (mostly because I was excited), but on the way back I was really struggling. Right about the time I saw the rest stop sign I blanked out (probably micro sleep) and when I came too I was like ‘I have to stop or I’ll die’. Wound up sleeping like 45 minutes and felt 100% better.

Misty Fugate sleep is so important. Only 2 hours a night is terrible for your health. Weight gain, excess cortisol, stress, lack of productivity, aging, and sleep deprived psychosis. If so doctor mikes tips don’t work, find a professional that can at least introduce you to a more natural substance to help you fall asleep. If I’m desperate for sleep, I’ll take 1/4 of a melatonin. Or valerian root. I don’t take these things every night. Just when I’m trying to get enough sleep and want to preserve my health the next day. Good luck!

Cote Climent I don't think that antivaxxers are the kind of people who would watch these videos.

EnteiFire4 yeah, but at least some woman may watch it because he is handsome and it counts and helps people explain to others

I have just showed this video to my daughter, Zoe, who struggles to fall asleep, it literally takes her hours. She had such a good laugh at te part you were twisting and turning, and when the Jack Russell was trying to wake you up. I just noticed now she has actually fallen asleep.. It's a miracle 😁 thank you so much 🌻

Doctor Mike you probably forgot your math...caffiene has a half life of 6 hours...that doesn't mean it will be completely out of your system in 12. Say if you ingest 200 mg. By 6 hours you will have 100 mg left and after 12 you will still have 50 mg left. So the expected time to get coffee out of your system will be considerably longer than what you said. Otherwise fantastic video mate. Cheers from Australia where it is 2am and I can't fall asleep. I need this 😂

I think it is, because the removal of caffeine follows the first order elimination equations. The removal is exponential, regardless of the pathway, whether excreted or metabolized. I feel that provides a substantial basis, for the term "biological half-life"

What if the normal dose of caffeine reaches some minimum critical value after maybe 12 hours which doesn't significantly affect sleep quality or time?

@atri thats exactly what he replied to a similar comment like that; he's aware but the details of getting into it would probs bore the majority of people (and I think it would be confusing too if it's in the format of a video like that. - I do think though the caffeine thing might deserve its own video. Cause caffeine is part of most peoples life and most know way too little about it)

      Anakiana I didn't see that one :3
And yeah, it's kind of a tiny detail which doesn't need an unnecessarily long explanation

Last night I stayed up watching your videos until 2 in the morning. Then you said something about blue light and sleep (I forget which video) and I realized the time. Love your videos, but I'm thinking I need to keep my phone away, like you said. Thanks.
