    Very helpful, thank you! After watching many, many, many repair videos I have realized- never have a dumb mechanic. It looks easy when he does this, but everything needs to happen in a certain order and lots of small steps that you can’t miss. These are so helpful even if it is something that is above my skill level/tool availability, at least I know what I am paying a mechanic for and how many hours should reasonably go into the labor on the bill.

      If you’ve been working on vehicles for a significant amount of time you get a feel for how tight things should be (clearly this guy knows) if you’re not experienced, do yourself a favor and buy a torque wrench. Tighter isn’t always better.

    About to tackle this tomorrow (both sides hopefully will get done ) and I can only hope I can get the hub assembly off (with the same ease as you did ) with my 3lb hand sledge …. I’m getting a “wub,wub,wub,wub,wub…………” @ around 50+ mph when I turn the steering wheel…it’s there going straight too but barely noticeable compared to turning steering wheel either way …you can feel the “wub,wub,wub….” In the front end when Turning at speed, but don’t feel in steering wheel …I thought it was balancing,so because of new tires I had road force balance done .that got rid of the steering wheel shimmy but the front end still has the shimmy/ wub wub deal……my long winded point being I hope this is the issue cause I have no real clue after this , and new tires with road force balancing attempts…..problem is there didn’t seem to be a lot of movement with the tire in the air like he had in this video…..I don’t know , anyone got any clue ? I think I’ll be calling my mechanic if it ain’t fix after tomorrow’s expedition hehe

      @@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair got drivers side done ,really had to work the hand sledge haha…. And it appears to have fixed the problem already, though my next free day I’ll do the other side too since I got new hubs thinking both needed it…. Sadly though I now saw that just about every suspension part needs repair or replacement…off to research front suspension rebuild kits for the Xterra…including shock / spring towers it’ll be quite a bit of cash and a lot of weekends ….

    Great video--I'm going to do exactly this to my pro4x. One question--are the rear tire hubs the same parts as the front wheel hubs or are they completely different sets of parts?

  • @CaptainVelveeta
    @CaptainVelveeta Před rokem +1

    so every video I've seen shows a 'naked' axel and nut after removing the wheel. My '08 has a heavy duty steel cover. It's not one of those small 'dust covers' that I used to pry off with a screwdriver either, it's a thick steel cover...as of now, don't know how to get it off without breaking anything...any ideas?

  • @withoutfurtheradoforever

    If you also wanted to replace the CV shaft on this vehicle, would anything else need to be removed, or will the shaft assembly come out at this point without removing other suspension parts?

    • @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair
      @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair  Před 3 lety

      without Further Ado, you should be able to remove the drive axle by undoing the upper control arm and pushing the steering knuckle to the side...

      @Cocora22 Před 2 lety

      @@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair One more question. IN the rear is it just as straight forward to do that job? I'm kind of thinking it's not. I took the truck to Costco for a tire rotation and they cross threaded the nut on one of the rear tires. They ended up having to replace the whole part that goes in to the differential. Does that sound right? I didn't have to pay for it and it's been fine since, but honestly I don't know exactly what all they did. That was like 8 years ago. But the left rear has a very loud sound while at high speed. Like a whine that gets louder the faster you go.
