She had an opinion about putting pressure on young women joining the WNBA and the clip was taken out of context. Sheryl puts the rumors to rest as she thinks Caitlin is one of the greatest college shooters she has ever seen.

Sheryl claimed that Caitlin was a 25 year old (she had just turned 22), breaking records only because she was in her 5th or 6th year of college (Caitlin was in her 4th year of college, she did NOT take her optional Covid year in college basketball), and Caitlin was taking 40 shots per game (it's actually closer to 20 shots). Wrong on all accounts, claimed that because of all these 'facts', none of Cailtins records were legitimate and her skills would not transfer over to the wnba. What a total lack of accountability. That's not stating an opinion, that being uninformed and bitter. I doubt she would appreciate someone stating similar 'opinions' about her sons basketball accomplishments. Just so disappointing, instead of celebrating the growth of women's sports, she's torn down young talent like Caitlin and Angel Reese, claiming they didn't have what it takes.

How wrong can you be? She got her FACTS wrong, and was talking out of her ass. Plus, most dominant college players do become stars in the WNBA. Sabrina, Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Griner, Kelsey Plum, Aja Wilson etc. Their sport has a limited talent pool, and a lot of those player come in and make immediate impacts.
Immediate impact and dominating to the tune of completely changing the game are very different. I take that she's saying everyone should cool their jets expecting her or anyone to come into a professional league and instantly become the greatest thing to ever touch it. It'll be a process. CC will likely be a GOAT, but give the woman a little grace to figure some stuff out.
It's like looking at Wemby, he is a phenom and will eventually be up there at the top, but Jokic standing on top right now, Wemby a few years out. Same in the W, Aja and those Aces aren't just going to disappear because Caitlyn shows up.

Sheryl Swoopes seems like an out of touch critic, because how tf don’t you realize that in your own sport, most of the elite talent, come in, and become star players right away? WNBA players come in after 4 years of college, and are typically ready to transition to being all-star level.
Caitlin Clark is one of the sharpest shooters I’ve ever seen, and that shooting should be the one thing that translates right away.
I don’t even like comparing NBA to WNBA in regards to talent, because the pool is so much wider, but elite WNBA talent usually can boost a team a lot faster than NBA. Hypothetically, any team that takes Caitlin, will be on the rise very quickly, while San Antonio is going to be a few years before we see Wemby start to breakthrough the top teams in the west.
