I am so so happy to see Zoo Tycoon 1 suddenly blowing up on CZcams. This was the game that made me get into video games as a kid. I miss those days, man.

Dayum, I kept hoping you would notice sooner or later, but you didn't. Felt sorry for those jellyfish.
Also other sit down resraurant, like the Rainforest Restaurant for example should also sate both thirst and hunger. If you click on a building, on the bottom it will show icons of what is sold there. Any building that sells both a food and drink item will do the job.
Generally it's not that good of an idea to place the food and drinks to close to the entrance, as guests have all their needs fulfilled when they enter the park, so they won't use those stalls as much. Better to place them in the back where people van get to them after already having spent some time in the zoo. On the exit of the show areas in Marine Mania is also a good place for food and drinks (and toilets).
Sorry but I don't feel like you'll be able to turn a profit in Dinosaur Digs 😅
It's way harder than the other two. Those dinosaurs are a fastidious bunch and have a tendency to break out. Don't cheap out on the fencing!

A fun little easter egg is that, while not having a star, the lion's mane jellyfish actually can do shows too! They can only swim up and down, though lmao

@@Tytar Oh, and the best thing: The guests HATE it! Like, they'll sit down to watch a jellyfish swim up and down for like a minute in-game and increasingly get more and more mad. I really recommend trying it for how absurd it is!

I am playing this game actively and I'm on the Marine Mania scenarios and the Swim Shack generates a LOT of money. I also found out that if you pick up a guest while they're swimming and put them back (if you have the buoys to mark the borders on where they can swim and they can't get out) they DROWN. THEY PASS AWAY. I was shocked.

This is the charm I love about the games in the old series as well as old PC games in general despite the graphics that companies go for these days they focused on details and mechanics.
I totally agree. It seems game companies have traded charm for graphics, and I'm not a huge fan that they've done that.
Planet Zoo I the newest one, and it's overwhelmingly realistic. You can build your own buildings, piece by piece. I love it haha
Also, show tanks are ment to be temporary tanks. You can connect regular tanks to it. I use to make one large show tank with every show animal in seperate tanks connected to it. Thus show after show would occur in the show tank, ramping up revenue.
Yea Im far less experienced with Planet Zoo! I had so many ZT players recommending it though! I have 1 upload on the channel about it. It's where I build a zoo in the sky haha
We have our own fish tank! I laughed when everything went bad, imagined me being a fish swimming around in dirt while you tried to figure out how to install filters

In all my years playing this I had never heard it either. 😆 It was so random, like, why did they even add this to the game? Some one told me it was the Orca's when they get unhappy, but why did they have to add a fart sound for that? 😆😆

Any restaurants will take care of all of the guests' needs. In addition to that they don't produce trash, so you won't need as many maintenance workers.
Marine Specialist Training 1 also speeds up all future marine research, which the game doesn't explain.
Orcas fart when they're angry.
You're starving your bottlenose dolphins and orcas by not having an exhibit tank for them.
How to make a profitable zoo:
Don't make the exhibits that big: big exhibits are expensive to build, harder to navigate for staff and will generally increase the distance guests will have to walk to get to places.
Don't let guests walk long distances to get to animals / buildings.
I generally assign one single staff member to 3-5 exhibits.
Use restaurants instead of food/drink stands, restrooms, benches and trash cans. Spread them around the zoo, because redundancy of having two restaurants close to each other is inefficient.
Carousel, animal theatre, animatronic theatre, dinosaur cinema, elephant ride, etc. are buildings that make money, in ZT your primary source of income is via guest accommodations.
A compost building generates 50 dollar for every cleaned poop, 100 if it is dinosaur poop, marine animals do not benefit from the compost building effect. The compost building effect does not stack, so having one is enough.
for Dinosaur Digs:
DRT bases cost 2000 per month, but you can manually pick up escaped dinosaurs. Don't pay the extra 2000 per month.
Dinosaurs are expensive. I'd go for a combination of regular animals and dinosaurs.
Electrified fences lower the happiness of whoever touches them, goes for both guests and animals. You can keep big dinosaurs in by building a moat of water terrain on the outside of the exhibit or using elevation to keep them in. It should not be a problem for staff (except tour guides) to traverse cliffs.
Foliage clustering is a technique to optimise the amount of foliage that you can place in an exhibit before the animals start showing sad faces.
The amount of foliage is not what makes the animals show happy/sad faces. It's the amount of tiles in the exhibit that have foliage.
This is not a full or the most accurate description of how the game mechanics work but it is a simple explanation which helps to understand foliage clustering.
So how foliage clustering works is: you place four 0.5 x 0.5 sized foliage on a single tile, in order to maximise the amount of foliage in an exhibit.
You can toggle show/hide grid with the hotkey Ctrl + G, this makes it easier to cluster foliage.

Yea...I loosely call it a DLC but really it's more of a physical expansion pack. I'm just so used to calling things DLCs these days. The old days with physical expansions were much better, as evidenced by these playthroughs!

The game is considered abandonware, meaning you cant get it! Some people have mentioned looking it up online at archive.org. Just scan with an antivirus and as always, purchase the game if possible!

It's been great!! I still own the discs. The game is considered abandonware, so if you have antivirus software you can search for a complete collection download online and play it! Always purchase legally if you can, but the game is abandoned now. Use anti-virus software to make sure you are downloading a safe file, but many commenters have reported this has worked just fine for them! I hope you can play soon!
Just some advice your suppose to install filter cleaners for your exhibits so they don’t get dirty and make your animals sick

I realized that once it was too late 😞 haha. I took this advice though after this video and had a much better time playing this expansion with the water filters! I think the big problem I had was I hadnt unlocked them at the beginning so I didnt realize they existed

Jelly fish shoot sperm and eggs into the sea they fertilize each other and then they fall to the ground and form plant like growths called polyps that slowly grow and go through metamorphosis splitting apart and Turning into several jellyfish

How do you get the tanks clean? Is it only by hiring marine biologists?
I was wondering the same thing, but from some of these comments, apparently at a certain time period of your zoo's existence you unlock water filters which help keep the tanks clean!

Marine Mania without the mermaid folk? If you place the mermaid statue in water it becomes an animal.

So basics.
Filters fpr tanks they require maintence but they clean the tanks regularly and with a marine specialists help keep the tanks clean which makes the animals and guests happier and keeps the animals healthy
mainteence workers fix the filters as well as normal duties
Animals like different tank depths and such you can raise the tank but also lower the depth of the exhibit to insure both.
Restaurants cover all basica guest needs including hunger thirst and rest and are very economical
Show tanks and animals a show tank should be built in a central locaton so that guests can be close by when a show begins and thus see it ie pay money to see the show, after building the show tank you can and should build your show animals exhibits and connect them to the show tank they can have easy access to the show
remember that show animals are NOT in their designated tanks so they arent happy. and they get less happy the more frequently the shows happen.
