does anyone remember the caveman you can sometimes get frozen in the iceberg? Then you let it melt and he'll walk around and stuff??
I found him like the first time I placed an iceberg. Didn’t realize he was rare!
Yeah, I got those guys pretty often if I remember right - the first one nearly got eaten by a Utahraptor because I didn't know he was in there though... ^_^"
I remember building one of those guys a "house" far away from the rest of the actual zoo.
Omfg yes
When I discovered him that was the sickest shit
I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but in ZT2 when you're in the map selection page with the globe and the flag markers, if you spin the globe around really fast you'll hear people screaming. That was always my favorite little easter egg :pp
Yesss, I remember doing this when I was bored and deciding what map to play!
Yess! :D Good times, even tho I still play it today.
yeahhh, i remember it made me sad for the people on the globe
That easter egg startled me so bad the first time I encountered that over a decade ago. Vaguely unnerving at the time
dat fun
Gosh I remember gripping my seat I'd be so scared watching Stalker's spooky zoo tycoon videos. My game had a glitch where the zookeepers would walk around without a head sometimes and the first time I saw it I nearly had a heart attack thinking the monsters from his videos had made it into my game!
oh my god unlocked a core memory from me, i remember being scared of stalkers bigfoot video lol
I was very young when I saw stalker's videos, like 11 or some. And I remember having pretty heavy nightmares with the zombies and even waking up my mama sometimes. But at the end always returning to the pc to curious around with the camera haha.
I LOVED his videos, they were the best.
You want to know what the first real horror experience of any sort I finished in my life was? ‘The Things from Oslane Swamp’ by Dannybob filmed in Zoo Tycoon 2. It horrified me more than words, something that I can hardly believe rewatching it.
I need a new laptop, man. I miss these games.
I remember being terrified of DANNYB0B's 'farm of the dead' ZT2 story videos, damn 😂
ZT2 was basically my childhood. Back before High School I was only allowed to have 2 hours of gaming time, except for "educational" games, which my parents counted Zoo Tycoon amongst. The Zoopedia taught me more about obscure animals then I could have ever hoped to learn. Want fun facts about the Gerenuk? I got you covered.
fun fact:fun facts are not fun
what the fuck is a gerenuk? id like some info and facts
My gaming time wasn't limited, so I played the first 2 Zoo Tycoon games for 10 hours straight during weekends 😅😅
... still no regrets
I LOVE GERENUKS
Yay! I’m glad you mentioned Magnet. Little kid me was amazed that you could download content online, including Magnet. I grew up in the Baltimore area, so it was really exciting seeing the same polar bear in my game that I had seen in real life.
Same here! It was the first videogame DLC i ever downloaded, So cool to find out BlueFang Studio was based in Massachusetts. Hope you have a good day.
i want to see a pic of magnet the bear
I remember Zoo Tycoon 2 looking a lot graphically better than it really is lol
Zoo Tycoon was a massive part of my childhood; I kept pointing at the video going "Hey I remember this!" I especially loved all of Dannybob's series back in the day.
I had no idea some things existed like the Asiatic Black Bear though. And I'm still puzzled as to where that marine show backdrop item went; it was visible in a promotional screenshot for Ultimate Collection but I don't recall ever seeing it in-game.
Beautiful video, it was like a nostalgic recap of everything this series had to offer.
I had Zookeeper collection! It was very fun and sometimes I would bring the customers inside the animal enclosures and the animals would attack them, it was fun but it made me lose all my stars lmao. I also had a version for the Nintendo DS (or Gameboy?) which was much less fun
Man when I got bored of my zoo, I selected everything and deleted it and watched everyone get attacked by my animals
I'm so glad I wasnt the only one with the DS game haha it was terrible, I never finished it
@@pidgeandtitus same
@@pidgeandtitus Out of curiosity, did anyone else have the DS ports of Age of Empires?
I found it fascinating that most times you had a "fighting cloud" when an animal attacked another, but then for example when I dropped visitors into the White Shark Tank there would be a custom animation of them getting eaten.
17:40 Xanadu is Samuel Taylor Coleridge's dream-version of the Ancient Chinese city of Shangdu, as described in his poem "Kubla Khan", a foundational work in British romanticism.
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
There is one thing that I don't think was even a passing mention but I KNOW I didn't hallucinate as a kid: Mermaids! I don't believe it was DLC, though maybe it was, but I distinctly remember being able to put the mermaid statue inside salt water and it would eventually crack open and turn into a mermaid :) It was my favorite thing to do!
yep! i did that all the time in my zoos, they sang too
13:20
I still own my copy of the Zookeeper Collection. Full plastic box, instruction booklet, and both disks. Didn't realize it had such a short release! I begged my parents to buy me anything zoo tycoon related back then.
The instruction booklets for the second games always stood out as a favorite of mine. I would read through them again and again. My Ultimate Collection guide still has my own pen notes scrawled throughout it.
The stalker videos are SO ICONIC to me. A huge part of my childhood. To this day I haven't met anyone else in real life who watched them as a kid.
I have the disks, but now no longer have a pc with a disk drive. Fortunately if you look, you can find downloads. Might have accidentally till 6am due to massive nostalgia trip. Quite enjoyable.
I have absolutely no memory of reciving the disks of zoo tycoon 1 and 2... they've just always been here. I love them both
I very much enjoy the aesthetic of zoo tycoon and similar ganes from the time
3:43 floppa jumpscare warning
😐
nope that is a carcal.
@@nickymejias5763 floppa is the name of a internet famous caracal
You should’ve included Aurora Designs as well as Radical Remake as they were some of the most popular mods of them all, as well as some of the more popular mod packs
No
Yeah! Can't believe you missed this, they were huge in the zootycoon community.
Yes! I even still have a lot of those mods just archived in my computer. I can't bring myself to delete them lol
Wait, I can't download them anymore?!
As he said in the video, he never downloaded mods so he doesn't know about it, and he seems to think that the mods made the game buggy xd
24:51 I wonder who made that video...
But still, overall it's nice to see an iceberg video over Zoo Tycoon content. And this video is very well-researched including some obscure points like the adoptable Yeti for everything or the Asiatic black bear players could get if they completed the Zoo Tycoon mobile game.
Yeah my bad I forgot to credit you for that, I think I even wrote it down in the script but must have forgot.
@@RobsMedia25 It's alright, it happens to the best of us.
This game was my childhood, id moslty play on sandbox mode making a ecosystem.
Also this game does have its easter eggs such as spinning the globe that plays people screaming, and what ive heard of is if you place a coffe stand near the staff base building, the staff move faster to work.
I would love to learn how to make mods for this game till this day.
I loved the original Marine Mania and I am sad there hasn't been anything like it so far. Zoo Planet was okay, but I miss my massive fish tanks with Marine animals.
Prehistoric Kingdom planned to include aquatic animals in the future, so I am looking forward to see what they planned.
I definitely encountered a glitch a few times where one animal was mysteriously translucent; not to the point of being invisible, but see-through. Namely, an American Bison. No idea what caused it.
🤔
I remember Zoo Tycoon 2 having a king cheetah variant which was commonly found by placing a bunch of cheetahs until you happened to come across one, the same with bengal tigers having a rare white variant. I don't remember if there were other variants for different species in ZT2 other than Zebras with different striping patterns or very small changes in some species that usually went unnoticed. I also remember a caveman frozen in an iceberg but I never saw that so I can't confirm if it is real or not. I loved downloading mods for ZT2, my favorite was probably one that gave you lots of different colors for horses. I was obsessed with various series' on youtube using ZT2 as a setting. I still have all my games but they unfortunately do not work on my current computer. I'm glad Zoo World exists as an alternative but I really miss the simplicity of ZT2.
best way to get white tiger:place in water
The ghosts were definitely a glitch, I had them happen a lot in the past before I got into modding the game. Constantly had "ghost" animals and headless guests 😓
or just floating guest heads xD
😮
I remember having semi-transparent elephants, they behaved like any normal animal but I think they were like that when I placed them down and not after they died
As for the "ghost animals" I once had a Tapir become pale and white. It looked like a ghost. It never bred and it would just run around and act like a regular tapir. I tried so hard to find an answer to what it was, but never found one.
Albino?
never saw albino
Now this. THIS is the niche content I subscribe for.
This was such an awesome video. So many aspects of ZT "lore" touched upon here. Growing up I played Complete Collection, Zookeeper Collection+MM and EA, and had both DS iterations. I also had so many mods (or "downloads" as they were referred to back then) on my computer that they would slow down the game's performance like crazy (Arabian Nights, Island Excursions, Jurassic Park, Paranoia, etc.) Would love to see a video going deep into Zoo Tycoon Friends. Literally, remember only seeing the initial announcement trailer, and then the game completely disappeared
i hav IE
I remember playing Marine Park Tycoon to death when i was younger, i got it out of a cereal box and would spend entire afternoons building zoos. I distinctly remember the game expected perfection from you when it came to soil composition.
Hahaha I remember when I was little I managed to get the killer penguin by accident. It actually scared me because I had no idea what was going on and found the model scary as a kid.
This doesn't even scratch the surface of the modding community that existed for this game... So much incredible custom content was created; I wonder how much has been lost.
just seeing videos of zoo tycoon brings back so much nstalgia to the point that it's painful
I inherited Zoo tycoon 1 from my older cousins, and my parents got me Zoo Tycoon 2: Zookeeper collection years later. One of my earliest memories is being amazed by being able to place animals anywhere I wanted, not just in exhibits on a grid system
Not something on the iceberg but opening ZT2 today I realized for the first time that the main menu buttons are the shape of a paw. So obvious, but it took over a decade for me to notice XD
I definitely think you could have expanded on the mods more! No mention of Radical Remake, or the forums that existed that made new animals, additional animal variants, items, and so much more.
Yeah the moding community was huge. I went so far they even managed to make bigger maps and alter the base coding of the game
The community is still active, although many modders switched to planet zoo and other recent games such as prehistoric kingdom :(
Remember when icebergs were based entirely on theories and fan creations, not just.. listing the library? Christ.
I didn't know the yellow brick path had a name. On the cardboard case for Complete Collection, there's a picture of a sample zoo inside using the yellow brick road. I remember trying to replicate it on multiple saves but could never find the right type of path. Now I know why.
It's also worth mentioning, as far as I remember, one of the starting maps on complete collection has the yellow brick road path near the zoo entrance. This is the only time I ever saw the yellow brick road path in game.
I remember back in the day seeing a yellow brick road somewhere in the Zoo Tycoon 2 "zookeeper's manual" and always wanted it, turns out it was just the safari path. Still, I remember finally unlocking the path theme after several years and popping off
idk if you play Planet Zoo but someone made a Iceberg of that game and it's really in depth, can you cover it? I can't find a good image of it but a somewhat blurry one exists on google
you missed the caveman in the iceberg in zootycoon 2 :D are rare chance
trueee!! I always got happy when I got him, silly little guy
I'm pretty sure both the Xanadu hack, that 80's movie, and pretty much everything else named Xanadu come from the 1797 poem Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Xanadu was the name Coleridge used for Shangdu, which was the real life summer capital of Mongol emperor Kublai Khan.
I love this video! I played the original game collection a LOT as a very young kid but I had no knowledge of the online fanbase so anything more obscure than the holiday-specific flyovers were unknown to me till now. Tempted to dig out my old CD now
I had a ghost quagga happen once and I didn't have any mods installed at the time. I had two normal quaggas and got a notification that one of them had died. When I went to go check the quagga that had died had turned white and was somewhat see through. It wasn't super transparent like in the video, but it also definitely wasn't an albino because it only changed color after it died and not after it was placed originally. I took pictures with the in-game camera because the rumors at the time were that ghost animals were a rare occurance. The quagga disappeared entirely when I reopened my save the next time. This makes me want to dig up the jump drive that I backed up my old zoos on to see if I can get the pictures of the ghost quagga.
Couldnt have asked for a better iceberg! ^^ thanks for this
Awesome video, so much nostalgia! And now let me be the bringer of good news to everybody: Treeceratops, a Swiss board game publisher, is developing an officially licenced Zoo Tycoon board game. It's coming to Kickstarter in October 2022 and promises to be a hit already.
I thought for sure you'd mention the weird abusive zoos we had to revamp in the scenarios in ZT2, or how everyone's zoo tycoon experience eventually turned into animal mosh pit eventually. XD
I have no clue why would anyone make this, but I'm hella glad it exists.
Seeing the Dannybobs videos on this list rushed do memories to my head. God Zoo tycoon series alongside rollercoaster tycoon and transport tycoon were some of the fondest tycoon game memories I had
even hearing his name xD I remember writing with him at his forum a few times when he was actively modding
I had zookeeper collection! We missed the announcement that zoo tycoon 2 had been released so when we saw the zookeeper collection for sale my dad bought it for me. It took another 5 or so years to get Marine Mania, and I only bought extinct animals two years ago, even tho I’ve been playing this game for over a decade. I love it so much. The amount of time I spent making dodos in the demo for extinct animals in incalculable, and the joy I got when I realised every animal added in extinct animals got the fun mini games was amazing. 10/10 best game ever
What a fantastic video ! Zoo Tycoon was one of my favorite games throughout my childhood, and I never knew jellyfish could perform in shows :O I have some information to add, too, that I'm surprised wasn't on the iceberg. ZT1 also had a very vibrant modding scene; it was all over message boards and fan pages during the early 2000s! I remember a program fan-made specifically to help create your own animals and objects- the Animal Project Editor or APE. I thought it would at least be near the bottom of the iceberg, but no. I guess it has become extremely obscure!
I'm so glad you made this
30 years old and i just found out BlueFang Studios was based in my state Massachusetts! Lost so many hours to that game in my youth, Damn i'm old...
Amazing work!
Hi there, I have the Zoo Tycoon 2 Zookeeper Collection in German. Don't know when I bought it as I was just a kid.
It was from Toys R Us. Good old times :D
Thank you for making this video!
Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania also had a demo, unsure about any of the other expansion packs. The adoptable animals were the rockhopper penguin, green sea turtle, bottlenose dolphin, and orca. I had a disc as a kid that came with a pack of chicken nuggets lol, it was my introduction to ZT!
Ah a trip down memory lane for me, with some new easter eggs and surprises I wasn't aware of. I think there was a zoo tycoon 1 mod that added poke'mon, dragons, and mythical creatures with me also hoping someday they'd make a mod for zoo tycoon but with mythical beasts.
This video unlocked a room in my brain that I haven't been in for a long time.
I never realized how much I need this
awesome video! id love to see more content like this.
Very similar story to yours. I watched the heck out of those weird Zoo Tycoon story videos and one of the tutorials was my first exposure to the hamsterdance song. Such a key part of my childhood and I hate that it doesn't work on anything past Windows 7
2022 and there is an iceberg of Zootycoon ?
Gurl
What a privilege
Thanks for making a video on probably my favorite game series as a kid
I know for a fact that the Killer Penguin is not accessible in the Ultimate Collection. I'm surprised that there wasn't a mention in how if you didn't install Extinct Animals or Marine Mania, you skated above the surface of deep water, but with an expansion pack, you could dive under the surface.
This video popped up in my feed because I’ve been playing zoo tycoon. I decided to click and watch. I can say i was disappointed and you got another fan. Great content!
Finally an Iceberg video I can get into.
Totally got the ghost animals on several occasions, but if i remember correctly, they were alive and acted normally. They were just transluscent, and not always to the same degree. You could barely see some of them, while others were just a little see-through. No idea what caused it.
Planet zoo has a new pack out now called the Twilight pack just in time for 🎃 that added a lot of animals the fans asked for such as the wombat and red fox as well as new uses for exhibits and exhibit population control. The developers are very responsive and take player input seriously, very nice folks
glad Asiatic Black Bear got a mention, I helped test an old remaster years ago
Love it! Still play it from time to time
I just started playing the original Zoo Tycoon a few days ago and there was so much stuff in this video I never knew about. Crazy
How? Where did you find it?
I can confirm the ghost animals have nothing to do with mods. I got them before i even knew how to mod this game
I remember playing both zoo tycoon and zoo tycoon 2 obsessively as a child/young teen, I really miss these games.
There are so many things in this iceberg I remember so distinctly, really hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia. I even had the ds game but I remember it being so bad that I never touched it again after playing a couple of hours.
I absolutely love Zoo Tycoon! I still play it to this day! Currently on my channel I upload exhibit speed builds every Sunday! I love this video!
While I didn't play Zoo Tycoon itself I played a very similar game in my childhood, Wildlife Park 2, which is very nostalgic for me. It had similar DLCs (back then they were called "Add-ons"), with a sea creature one called Marine World, and it also had a mermaid easter egg. I think it was in one of the last missions where you had to earn enough money to buy a mermaid for 30 million dollars (it had a story about how the mermaid was found by fishermen) at the end of the mission. The mermaid was quite weird since it was only an easter egg creature, it was its own species where you could choose male or female, but the males looked exactly like the females, it also somehow didn't need any food.
My god...never heard again from tjis series after I bought the complete collection as a kid...never realized it had a sequel and a reboot (although it having tons of DLC priced at 10 dollars each just makes it look like a mtx hell).
Thanks for the nostalgia trip, I spent dozens of hours with the first game, which had an unique aesthetic...and many of those were letting loose the dinos on the park visitors when I got bored 😂
I haven't played in ages being a Jurassic World / Roller Coaster Tycoon kid but thank you for giving me closure on who 'Magnet' was and why the penguin would kill everything.
haha as someone who has grandparents that live in Kelowna BC and near the real lake Okanagan I just wanted to let you know it is pronounced O-kuh-nog-in lol. Ive never heard anyone say it like you and it brought a smile to my face
I love Zoo Tycoon so much as a kid! My favorite memories are the mermaid statues which would turn into real mermaids and using the Xanadu cheat to get a unicorn!
Nice, I played this game so much in afterschool
I played very few video games as a kid, but I LOVED Zoo Tycoon, I had the first one with all the expansions. I remember thinking I was an absolute genius for finding the mermaid thing online and then doing it.
Every time I remember playing zoo tycoon Complete Collection, I always remember my favourite animal that I’ll always place in my zoo. The Loch Ness Monster, which is apart of the endangered pack.
Ty for this! I've loved this game since i was 7 :)
I remember having the zoo tycoon 2 mobile game it was very forgettable but was just nice to have X'D Great video!
Maybe I am too late, but I am in possession of a physical copy of Tycoon 2: Zookeeper's Collection.
Haha, I remember getting it, thinking it was the complete collection, including the dinosaurs and marine animals, but was thoroughly disappointed to find myself completely wrong.
The complete collection was the best! Wish I could play it again
YES!!! I had the original Zoo Tycoon (idky I say had. I still have the disc), and I used to be OBSESSED with it when I was a kid. Then when I was a teenager and had internet and stuff, I found out about the Easter eggs like the unicorns if you name a exhibit "Za--" something.... I haven't watched the video yet, but it's probably in there. Then I saw one about a dino Easter egg and my mind exploded man. One of my favorite games to this day (besides the fact that no matter what, after like year 3, I always go bankrupt)
I actually had the zookeeper collection as a kid when I played zoo tycoon 2 for the first time. Of course, I wanted the ultimate collection since I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs as a kid, still am lol. I remember going to best buy with my dad's mom to get it as a kid, good times. Though, I will agree with the selection of dinosaurs not being that great compared to zoo tycoon 1. Sure, the other extinct animals were cool, and the pack was called that. But more dinosaurs would be nice. It is what most kids got it for anyway lol. Also, quick correction, the jellyfish isn't needed at all to get the iceberg in zoo tycoon 1. The animals required are: Wooly mammoth, wooly rhino, polar bear, arctic wolf, walrus, narwhal, and beluga. Only those 7 are required to get it, I did it in game myself. Other than that, good iceberg video!
As a French speaking person who always played Zoo Tycoon 2 in French, i'll try to make it as clear as possible: I remember that when visitors used that panoramic tower (idk the english name for that thingy >
Oh my god the Kid's Map was all I played. I got the game when I was 6 and spent hundreds of hours on it in the computer room. I remember every time I started a new game I went through a routine of destroying all the pre-made exhibits on the kid's map, filling the entire area with grass, and levelling the terrain to give myself a custom playing field 😂
I played so much zoo tycoon and roller coaster tycoon it was crazy. I still enjoy planet coaster today but man do I miss those 45 animals they just gave you in the original
i remember there was this one zoo tycoon-like phone game where you had to breed certain animals to get others (something like elephant plus something else equals mammoth or something like that).
Holy dang those "the invasion" and other Zootycoon horror videos are sooo super nostaligic. Especially the bigfoot one.
I grew up playing Zookeeper Collection, I've been waiting for somebody to bring that one up
Zoo Tycoon is a game I never plan on playing but this was an enjoyable ice berg despite that, excellent narration
I think the Zookeeper Collection was my first edition of Zoo Tycoon 2! I got it from Walmart when I was in 4th or 5th grade. Now that you mention it, I don’t know how common it was. I’m one of the only few people to still have mine (I still pop it in every now and then)
Zoo tycoons my favorite game!! I wish more people played it, it's so good
Thx you for this video
Content like this help the game to note be forgotten and help the playerbase to survive
I don't know how many people know this but after their contract with Microsoft ended in 2008 Blue Fang tried to make a zoo game for Facebook called Zoo Kingdom
I had the OG complete collection as a kid and spent HOURS playing it, and I'm so sad I never found out about the mermaid statue or unicorn cheat. I would have loved that
Fucking loved Zoo Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon 2 was the best. The demos had some unique stuff you couldn't get in the base game too
You forgot that in Complete Collection, if a T-rex destroys a bathroom, it shows a man sitting inside it like in Jurassic Park
I actually did have the Zookeeper Collection growing up. Mostly because back then, if I heard about a Zoo Tycoon game, I would do everything in my power to get it! [Which just means begging my parents to get it]
I had the zookeeper collection as a kid but I got rid of it after I bought zoo tycoon 2 ultimate collection at target years ago. After playing zoo tycoon for over a decade I found 2 exploits. You can run faster by holding down the space bar and shift key when running (correct me if I'm wrong) I found an exploit where you can freeze time and still move around but I forgot how to do it but if I remember how to do it properly I might comeback and update it.
It is shift key, and it isn't an exploit. It is coded into the game to be like that added into the Extinct Animals expansion (and the Ultimate Collection), and is explained in the Extinct Animals pamphlet.
And there is an secret tip where you place a coffee stand next to a staff center and your staff will gain a burst of speed.
Its quite fascinating.
Me, turning my head and looking at my PC games shelf: Wait I HAVE the zookeeper collection!
