I used to have a 78 model Wizard mower that was a beast.
My current mower looks like a new version of the old single blade Snapper mower.
It's all motor and a little blade but it's perfect for living in town.
I just got a little (Harbor Freight) dump trailer for it and it's great.

A trailer hitch will be my next investment, I think it will be super useful!
I picked up this mower pretty cheap so I'm glad it's running (to some degree) but it's annoying not to be able to tune up the engine. I have a pretty low opinion of Tecumseh at the moment, the far East clones of the Honda small engines are amazing, of I could find a vertical shaft I'd likely swap this out.

@@backofficeshow My new one is the same in regard to not being able to adjust much but it has a sweet motor.
Mine is a Briggs and Stratton but it has an oil filter.
One of the main reasons I picked it out.
Your air filter looked a bit dirty and it's missing the spongy pre filter.

Excellent help sir. Mine is coming in the mail and I will be doing the same as you just shared.

I just ordered a new Briggs and Stratton fuel tank with integrated carburettor for next to nothing, it's amazing that a carb is a service item these days

I just love how Dr A added a little back fire of his own at the end! Nice touch! Let me guess, Curry?
Don’t forget, if you want to know when Dr A puts out more amazing content, press his like and subscribe buttons and don’t forget to hit his bell to let him know you are here!

The problem wasn't the carburetor but rather the carburetor bowl. Look closely at 6:52 thru 7:19 time mark in video. The plastic bowl has warped with heat. Gasket is sucking in air. I'm on my 3rd bowl in 5 years. It's a common problem with them but few people know about it. I cure it for a while by making my own gasket since you can't buy one anymore then putting another band about 1/4" wide around perimeter of that sealed very lightly with permatex. Install and wipe another band of permatex around outside of bowl where it is clamped to carb. Easier to just buy whole assembly like you did but...they are poorly machined, usually receive wrong one. All of them advertised are made in China.

Then some of my red puddy will work around that or make a heat shield for it to block some of the heat from that part
Just about every new mower is from China on alot of my mowers if i didn't use replacement parts made in china the things wouldn't be working right now

Yeah it's all made in China anyway, they make everything we use, from the best quality through to the cheapest 😂

I've worked on countless tecumsehs. Love 'em. They're not the best engines but what they lack in performance they make up in mechanical simplicity. They're also pretty much unkillable.

Ever heard one like mine with the low rpm popping? I'd love to solve that if I could

@@backofficeshow I couldn't hear much of the engine running but I'd check two things. Chinesium carbs usually get the fuel mixture a little off. If that carb has a fixed main jet, you can buy replacement adjustable mixture screws to tune it in. I'm sure you're plenty familiar with tuning in carburetors. Occasionally also the flywheel key that sets the timing through the magneto will shear and then wedge itself enough to keep approximate position but wiggle timing back and forth at low RPM. To take a look, all you have to do is pull the flywheel nut with an impact and then pry the flywheel off of the tapered shaft.

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  Před 3 lety

Checked the key, it's good. I will look out for the assignment needle for the carb! Thanks

I spent two full weeks on my late 90s tecumseh powered rider this Spring. Ran like a cat with a fireball up its ass for a week and then proceeded to blow oil outta somewhere but not the head gasket. I have a 60ft vertical drop behind my house and that fucker looked real pretty going over it and face planting into huge Poplar at the bottom.

It is indeed a good idea to get your equipment ready for the summer. Oh and also do some lawn mower maintenance. (btw how big is your garden that you need a ride on mower?)
