      We are not called Ashanti people...the word is ASANTE. It's the white people that couldn't pronounce the word, while they planted themselves here, helping themselves to our resources and our people, and they kept saying Ashanti, so they are the ones that spread it to the world that way, but when u hear true Asantes speak, in their language, u will never hear them using that crazy word Ashanti, and some of the youth who have also picked it up. they always refer to themselves as ASANTES. This is why it's so frustrating when visitors come to Ghana, wish they will have adults teach them about the country and the true and real history of the country instead of these young people just trying to make a living, I just wish they will love their country and their jobs enough to learn the real history of the country, like the ones at the dungeons. Thanks.

    • @sos9020
      @sos9020 Před 20 dny

      Trudy, u need to talk to grown ups like your dad's age to learn about a country's history, not young people. No adult ASANTE person will ever tell u that u can use ASHANTI and ASANTE, becos, the word itself has historically always been ASANTE!! Please stick to the right word, becos we the grown ups get frustrated when we hear people saying that wrong word. The people have always always been ASANTE PEOPLE,and they speak ASANTE TWI. It's those crazy muzungus that couldn't pronounce the word when they got there, while they were helping themselves to our resources and our humans, they were butchering some of our Names and words, and like everything else they touch, they just made that wrong word travel around and made it seem like the right name of the tribe...but no, it's ASANTE...thank u, enjoy Kumasi and it's richness. Say hi to dad.

      @anthoniaabraham8673 Před 18 dny

      There are differences in quality. That one you bought might have been of a higher quality than the one being sold at Kumasi for 60 cedis.
      No one buys six yards of cloth for 60 cedis. It is inferior quality and will not last long. Good quality wax prints lasts for a long time without fading. GTP and ATL prints are more expensive but lasts a lifetime. Check the hem of the cloth you bought, if it is GTP or ATL then you have no problem. The only problem would be if you were given a Chinese imitation for 300 cedis.

    With the Kente it depends on what style or the message it’s sending out there. Some can even go for extra $$. But it also depends on where you get it from. Kente is a handmade material with which sends so much messages out there. And mostly the king is the first to wear to send messages to his people or to his enemies. So probably you may have bought the one that goes first extra $$$

    Yikes! You went to Manyhia Palace and did not tour the museum especially with the returned Asante artifacts??? What a missed opportunity! The museum is excellent and worth every penny especially with the upgrades that have just been made. And your chances of meeting the American ambassador are 100 times more likely than meeting the Asantehene……not impossible but in many ways President Akuffo Addo is more accessible than Otomfuor.

Not sure the Kabaka’s palace in Uganda is this well maintained. The Asante Empire is one of the greatest that existed on the continent and the fact that majority of its infrastructure is still intact in contemporary times is something you want to experience.

Its in Nzemaatea, quite close to Takoradi, so it wouldn't be too much travel for Maya. Please try oooo my daughter, try. Since your dad loves to learn so much, this is a place to learn some amazing rich African history like youve never heard before. Theres the historian there who will give u the real story of the people, their history of migration and how and why they ended up there and building their homes on top of the water. Amazing! and how they ended up there. Dont miss this one, dad will be very fascinated. Most Ghanaians don't even know about them, if they dont live around there.
