This was lovely. We have a 6 YO tri girl (from a breeder who follows the health protocols). We just recently lost our 14+ YO Standard Poodle, our 6th, and have feelers out for another Cav. Though I miss our athletic energetic Standards, the Cavs are just perfect for us now-though she is certainly not just a pretty face by any means. Gemma is a wonderful constant companion (but who would love a buddy) who adapts to whatever we are doing and is a wonderful traveler, making friends wherever we go (when we can again). So glad we were introduced to the Cavaliers and found breeders who care about the breed as I looked for with my Standards. I've enjoyed looking at your web site. Hoping we can find the right Cav within the year.
We got 2 Cavs from a well known English breeder had the breed since mid 70s ,perfect little dogs .I got a cheeky black n tan and a obedient ruby . Good luck with your brood ,fine parti -colour markings not heavily flecked as you say ..........Mum is an adorable little bonny lass as well. Best of luck
Not sure if you were aware, but Cavs and King Charles Spaniels are actually two different breeds. KC Spaniels were the ones influenced by pugs 😊 They are very similar though, and do share some history!
I am starting my journey as a Cavalier Breeder! Last thing I am waiting for is her heart test next weekend. Can I please ask what whelping box this is? Do you recommend it?
The box is homemade, mostly of plywood covered with a thin waterproof plastic panel from Home Depot. There are whelping boxes you can buy, but I don't know if they have the clearance under the floor to fit a nest. The nesting portion of the floor is the original Lovett's whelping nest, which I believe is no longer made. However, there are similar products on the market, like the one linked below. We cut a circular hole in the floor of the box to accomodate the nest. Lots of luck to you. @@nataliem8249 You seem to know a ton about them. I had no idea that they were so susceptible to all those conditions. Chiari I’ve heard of small dogs getting but I’m not sure what the percentage is. I actually have Chiari myself but I don’t wish it upon anyone, including my dogs. I would love my dog regardless of what medical condition it had but cost wise, I could never afford a dog that needed a lot of vet care. Thank you for sharing this. Definitely helped me with future decisions on my next puppy. I rescued a little malshi a few years ago when he was 4 months old and he is awesome. His only issue is dry, sensitive skin.
You should know that Natalie is generalizing what might be true of Cavaliers from puppy mills. We have a 40-year reputation as reputable breeders, and there are many more like us. The only fault is with people who fail to do the proper research, and jump to buy an inexpensive puppy without vetting the breeder. I already committed myself to a future litter after doing research into what kind of breed I would be better suited to.
@@nataliem8249 I am not a dog snob. What I am is a woman who is looking for a breed that will function as a service animal without being too large to fit on my lap. Cavalier Spaniels are known for their trainable nature and their temperaments. That is what I am after as well as being able to start training in puppyhood. Starting later with a dog who has been rehomed once or twice before could mean that I would not be able to get the service dog that I need. Adopting a mutt from an animal shelter is not inexpensive either. Most of them go between 3-500$ and have a caveat that they can't be homed with children under middle school age. Since I have young children in the house and already struggle with anxiety and depression, I need a blank slate. Many people buy puppies from breeders for the same reason why I am going this route. It is difficult to find a puppy in an animal shelter. I have looked.

I wish people would stop their dogs having puppies. There are so many neglected and unwanted dogs in shelters. I always get rescue dogs and would never have a dog from a breeder - all they ever think about is how much money the dogs will make.
If responsible, ethical breeders stopped breeding, all that would be left would be puppy mills, where dogs are bred regardless of their health and temperament. We aim to improve the breed by maintaining good characteristics, while breeding out inherited disease.
King Charles Spaniels are my favourite breed and these pups and Mama are absolutely beautiful ♥️

The ruby girl is quite pretty. I think that is my favourite. I will be getting a Cavalier Spaniel later this year. I don't have a date yet.
