Sophie is my dog and she is 11 years old. She is an AKC Grand Champion. She is the joy of our life. She was bred by Huntcrest Cavaliers a little north of Chicago. I received her at 12 weeks old and got her Grand Champion title. Thank you Leslie for such a wonderful dog. She deserves the best and Susanne is certainly the best groomer ever. She LOVES going to Susanne every month for her SPA day. Susanne is so gentle and kind and does the grooming techniques that most groomers just don’t know how to do. She looks good enough to go into the show ring. I am so grateful to find such a great, professional groomer who LOVES THE WORK AND THE DOGS.
Thank you so much, Glenn 😊
What a lovely girl. Oh my goodness.
She’s a beautiful dog!
Your little girl is beautiful! I was looking for a Cavalier grooming tip for grooming our guy ourselves. Suzanne is awesome, I would love to have her as "our" groomer. You precious is a beauty!
She is so beautiful! Just a gorgeous girl and I breed AKC registered and OFA CHIC certified Cavaliers.
Typical Cavalier laying down for a little break during the groom! What a little sweetheart. Thank you for the amazing tutorial!
This is the most informative video on grooming a cavalier I've ever seen. These techniques will make a huge difference for my two cavaliers!
Glad it was helpful!
this video was hypnotic! I don't even own a dog,,,,and I thought, this is the way a good dog groomer handles a dog with ultra professionalism.
I wish I would have seen this video 15 years ago with my cavalier! So informative, thank you for sharing! I hope to get another cavalier, and when I do, I’ll come back to this video and groom him like this!
I wish I had seen this video before I had my first Cavalier. I obviously did a lot of grooming incorrectly. When I adopt my next Cavalier, I will review this video again so I purchase the right grooming equipment. Very educational. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for all this grooming info. I am a 1st time Cavalier owner.I have been bathing her and grooming her myself. She is 3 years old and this info is very helpful.
You are so welcome!
Oh my goodness, Suzanne! I have been waiting at least 10 years for a Cavalier grooming video like you have provided us! You share so much good information about the structure of the Cav and how the grooming should be done to show off the lovely angles of the body and enhance the best features of the head and neck. I have all the tools and products needed to achieve grooming success and now, with this wonderful video, I think I will get a much better result! Thank you so much. I’m a fan😊!
You are AMAZING! I purchased all the tools you linked to. I got everything except the fine-tooth deshedding rake and the horse-thing (waiting for them to arrive). I started with the large deshedding rake today and it worked just as you illustrated. SO much hair came out. I then did the carding knife. When my girl stood up, it looked 2-3 inches were taken off each side of her hips! She had become SO WOOLY, and I thought she needed a haircut. So glad I found your video - she didn’t need a haircut! She just needed all that hair removed, that I didn’t realize was apparently sitting in her coat (except for the horrible shedding - that may’ve been a sign). THANK YOU so much!!!!!!!!
I have the hardest time with the hip area and the neck and shoulder. Hope it gets better! I watch this video a lot and recommend it a lot! It’s been sooooooo helpful!!
Thank you so much for sharing. You're one of the only cavalier grooming videos on CZcams that doesn't shave their coats and does a proper groom for this breed. I truly appreciate your expertise.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much! I've been grooming my Cockers and Cavaliers for 35 years but learned so much from this video!
Wow! Sophie is absolutely stunning! ❤
This was such an informative video. I really appreciate the detail about removing the shedding coat. It is so very important.
Glad it was helpful!
The BEST cavalier grooming video out there, hands down! And the only proper one I have seen! Thank you for all the details and tips. My cavs look and feel so much better thanks to your recommendations and tool links! Can’t thank you enough!! 🐶🐶
Wow, thank you!
Absolutely agree, appreciate all the detail Suzanne.
Thank you for the carding techniques! I will start using this for my clients!
Beautiful job! And the very best video/explanation of how to care for your Cavaliers coat.
You are absolutely a fantastic dedicated professional. Love how you take the time to educate and explain this. Thank you so so much.
I'm grateful you share the products you use.for us dying ers it informational, no one tells us how to do it
Thank you for a fantastic video. I enjoyed the explanation for using certain techniques or products. The owners of Sophie are so lucky to have such a skilled groomer. I am taking your advice and will do some home care for my cavalier. The list of products was very helpful too.
Great job, you are kind and respectful to the dog, and your grooming techniques are top notch. Thank you
Thanks for showing the details of how to shave the paws.
Wonderful video. Wow, learned so much more about grooming our two pups 🐶, our male is also a Blenheim. Did not know about the Carding tool or pumice stone. Thanks, we are Cavy lovers
She is wonderful❣🥰🐾
I have the same tool and love it very much. She is one of my favorites🎯
What an absolute gem of a groomer and such a gorgeous little lady cav ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing the cavalier grooming techniques ❤ I have a 14 month old cavalier and grooming my dog at home. You are a true artist !
I’m so grateful to you for showing us so and calmly and clearly, how to manage these flat coated shedding breeds at home. Can’t wait to try this on my Cavalier when she’s got her full coat. 😊
Cute Cavalier! Thanks for the face shampoo application tips. My Yorkie is my first dog ever that jumped out of my tub. I'm busy just keeping her stationary, but she's improving!
Oh no! Check out the Groomers Harness. I will post a video tomorrow on how you can use it to Anchor the dog safely in the tub. GroomersHarness.com
This is an outstanding video as it is so clearly communicated. I would love to take a workshop on grooming a Cavalier!
She is a beauty and you did an amazing job. I brush mine every day but I need to do the carding to get rid of the excess shedding
Thank you very much. I own 3 Cavaliers and have been searching for a tutorial like this.
You are welcome!
I love this format more and more, I was skeptical at first but this is amazing because you teach so much. Thank you
Thank you. It’s just going to get better! Stay tuned.
Thank you for showing the tricks of the trade. You did a marvelous job and your little girl looks amazing. We are trying to groom our cavalier ourselves, so what I just watched will help us a lot. Again, Thank You
Awesome video, great tips for getting the fur to lay flat, this has been driving me crazy and I can’t wait to try out the technique.
Glad it was helpful!
I watched this video about 5 times and bought all the products I saw in the video 😂
Thank you so much, you are THE BEST!
Could you please tell me what the brush/comb is called at the end? I can’t find it online
This was excellent. I loved watching this video not only for the great information, but it was so satisfying and calming lol 🧘🏼♀️
I was so happy to see this wonderful video on grooming a Cavalier. I have an almost 9 yr old tri color, so it was great to see such an excellent groomer as yourself share your tips and tricks on grooming this type of breed. Thank you!! 😊
Our pleasure!
This video is so helpful! I have a mutt that we guess is part spaniel and dachshund. She’s having some of the issues you described. Now I know how to take care of her coat. Thank you so much!
I'm so glad!
Now I see what I have been doing wrong with my two Cavaliers. Thank you for this video; this is the best one that I have ever seen on grooming Cavaliers. I will be ordering some of the tools that you are recommended.
Glad you liked it!
Absolutely perfect dog, what a sweetheart
Wonderful job and very informative!!
I’ve been struggling to groom My cavalier especially with a new toddler so I’m grateful to have your video to help
Love the new series, I do miss the live but since I work so much I missed most of them. I really like the blog link to the tools used and will be picking up more artery stuff soon thanks again for all your hard work.
Great to hear! The blogs will accompany each new video with information relating to the haircut or groom in the video.
@@grandestyledoggrooming where can I find your blog with products?
Great video. Thank you 😊 adorable baby!
a consummate compassionate professional
The hair! the shedding! good thing I love her ❤
Hello! I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We live in Russia. And we have few groomers who perform really good grooming in accordance with the breed standard. Thanks for the video, very useful
Wish I lived near you. Such a patient little Cavi. My 3 year old has a curly coat, and thick, which is tough here in Australian heat. I will go to the pet store straight away and get a carding tool etc. I am old but I will take on the challenge! Thank you for such a good video.
Hi Mairin, I'm in Aus too, you will be lucky to find a carding tool in a pet shop. There are a few Aus groomer supplies online stores that you can pick up a carding knife quite cheap. Most will very happily help you over the phone as well. I think there is great tendency here to shave off longer coats in summer, which doesn't necessarily help the dog, as even the shortest haired dogs are panting to cool down (coz people- DOGS DON'T SWEAT!!!) carding out this dead hair will. Good luck!
Thanks, Susanne for a great video, My boy Toby is also a full-coat natural and your presentation was convenient.
It would be great if you could fit in a follow-up video on legs and in particular feet rounded like puff balls, I know I'm a silly old man
Toby is not a show dog but my very best friend, every 82-year-old should have one. Grooming Toby is a pleasure it helps to relax me and keeps me active. Best of all I have a great conversation with him while doing so.
I thank you again for your video and best regards.
John B Adelaide, Australia.
I will do that for you, since this client does the same.
She looks beautiful , love this video
Sophie is so adorable. I have two cavatzus so this video is so helpful
I love this video for helping me with my cavalier. What comb did you use for the first portion after the dry
Such a wonderful job and explanation for each stage. The only part I didn't see was a sanitary trim. Thank you for sharing!
That is because in correct grooming a sanitary trim is not done. That being said, many people do prefer the sanitary areas trimmed short.
Wow! I am impressed with your grooming skills. We have a black and tan male Cavalier and he gets a once a month bath and brush at the groomers and has a lot of fur, too. Now I know why he sheds all year long. I can do the carding on my sweet Churchill. My husband and I love black and tan Cavaliers.
Lol I can't decide which I love the best, one day it's the Blenheim, the next it's the tricolour, 2 days later it's the ruby.. I think I just love Cavs.. Or maybe it's the old scent-hound adage also applies? -that "No good hound is ever a bad colour"!
I don’t even have a Cav (yet?) and I still loved watching this!
That dog is SOOO CUUUTE! lol This groomer is a true professional, wish they were easier to find.
This is a WONDERFUL video and just confirms my belief that not all groomers know how to groom a cavalier!! If you are still answering questions, I have a 2 yr old tricolor cav with very similar color patterns to the puppy in the video but where brown, my puppy is black. Do you recommend any products or techniques for brightening the white? I feel as a city dog and hiking regularly, his white paws and leg feathers never get quite white anymore even after a good bath. I'd love something to help. Thank you again!
Excellent informative and clear thank you
OMG! You are amazing. I wish you work in Houston!
Suzanne that was a great video demonstration of carding. Love how you added all the tools in the Blog with links to order and additional information. She was so sweet. My neighbor just got a Cavelier puppy. They are super sweet dogs.
Thanks so much!
I was told that because I am blind, I really needed a cavalier, a lab, or a golden retriever, because they are easier to train. I’m really thinking about a cavalier, but now watching this video, the grooming has me extremely nervous.
I am looking for the Blog with the links to order all the tools. Can you share the link please?
Excellent video!
Cavaliers are the BEST - we are teaching our puppy to get used to the nail grinder also right now.
Very education video, thank you. Can you please tell me what the comb is called what you used at the end? Would you recommend just brushing with that once a week (in between grooming sessions)? Or should I be doing something more? Thanks
Cant believe the patience and and sweetness of the dog...just lovely
Tell me about it
Watch my daily livestreams all day everyday Monday through Saturday for more great content.
My groomer has been telling me for 3 years that my Cavalier is a "curly" and that's why he looks like a punk rocker with the hair on his back going every direction. Time to look for a new groomer. And I'll be buying a carder for home use too! Thanks!
The at home work is the key 🔑
Thank you, Suzzane, for sharing this wonderful information! I know Sophie and her owners and she is one Lucky Dog for sure! She is such a good girl and there is no doubt she loved getting groomed. She looks beautiful!
She was outstanding truly sweetest temperament. ❤️

God bless you, thank you for sharing!
Beautiful dog
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! I have had no luck finding anyone I feel confident about for grooming my cavalier so decided to try and learn on my own. The last groomer shaved her coat very short! As I've done some research, I find that the AKC breed club says they are a single coated dog yet many other sites say that they are double-coated. And so I'm wondering whether her coat is permanently ruined due to being shaved to about an inch in length. Or can I restore it by following your tips here in this video?
Nice work!
Thanks!
Watched your channel 1st time today. Saved and Subscribed! I love how you explain what and WHY you do everything. I don’t live near a good groomer. They just want to cut and clip. Often they want to even clip feathery hair off back of legs, shorten her pretty ears etc! I end up trying to groom her myself. She’s a beautiful tricolor with silky straight hair so that 15:13 helps some but your tips on getting the undercoat out are great, will look for the tools. Thanks for your help!

I love this video. Thank you so much for insight of good care and grooming for our 2 year old Cavalier. Can you please tell me if a furminator would be as effective as a carding tool? I have RA and think it would be easier to hold than the smaller carding tool.
I have never used the Furminator, so I cannot say for sure.
Don’t!
thank you
Very nice video on grooming and carding techniques on a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Do you trim around the feet and trim between the back legs under the tail?
On house pets if it’s requested, otherwise no. I do advise clients correct techniques vs requested techniques.
what conditioner do you use. You didn't show and I can't find on grooming tool site.
I love this video😊 Thank you so much, It is super helpful for our Cavie! Does the carding tool actually cut the fur, or is it just combing out undercoat?
It only combs.
"Sweet Dogs" Love learning about them!!! " Marv'
Hello. Thank you sooooo much for this video! I have an 18 month old Cavalier and it seemed I was missing something with regards to grooming as I did not want to take her to a groomer or clip her like other Cavs I've seen. I want her to look like a champion! I'm so happy to see this video. Your video is the first video that has answered questions that I had. I brush my dog every day but watched her coat change as she got older. I purchased the tools from your website and have been carding my dog like you demonstrate. What a difference!!! She's starting to look like she's supposed to and not the big square fluff she was turning into. I have a couple of questions: Can you over card the dog? Also, do you trim whiskers or hair around the eyes? I have watched this video a dozen times and I seem something different every time. I have also watched some of your other grooming videos because I am learning from them as well. Great content!!!!! THANK YOU!!! This video has made a difference!!!
Can you over card them?
You are an amazing groomer and Sophie is beautiful. I have a cocker spaniel. Love all breeds of cocker breeds.❤️
You are so kind
Thanks!
Thank you :)
Hi! Thank you so much for this super informative, wonderful video. I've been grooming for 10 years, & I'm surprised at how limited the knowledge is amongst groomers about hand-stripping, & carding.. I have a tri-color Cavalier request that has come to me for years.. She always comes in with such a strange, inconsistent, whispy coat. The white hairs are always soft & frizzy, the black "gaurd hairs" hairs are always stringy. I had a feeling that it was carding that she needed.. & i try to execute that each time she comes in to me. Unfortunately, i cannot convince the owner to bring her in for more regular grooming 🫤 She will come in once every 4 months... So, no wonder i just can't keep up with it.
Also; i love your handling-techniques with the dog.. Your confidence & your professionalism.
That is why I state that it is the pet parent's responsibility to learn how to maintain flat coats. It is impossible for a groomer to accomplish a proper groom every 4 months.
Hello, I’m just beginning my search for King Charles Caviller as a therapy dog. I have always had Pomeranians but want a dog that is a bit larger . I’m very used to grooming my Poms but if I get a Cav I want to use the best grooming tools for my new dog. Is there a list of the tools you demonstrate in your video? I haven’t found it but l perhaps I missed it. I already have a great grooming kit plus cordless grooming electric razor. My main question is the type of brush you used to shampoo my dog and the best comb to use. I don’t think I need a slicker like I use on my Poms but I can’t tell what type of combs you use? I have several types of combs first being a long comb that has teeth that are close and other end wider teeth. I have a comb that also will get 2 ends & a comb that has multi layers to get a close comb. However it looks like you use a longer type of comb that is easy to use on a larger , long haired dog then a Pom but I can’t see it know the name of such a comb. I any to have my tools ready and your video is wonderful to learn to how to groom my new breed of dog. Cavalier appear to make the perfect therapy dog. I’m also used to training service dogs as I have a son with disabilities and have been taught by a professional trainer on the best way to train a service dog. I just lost my best friend, a Pom , that passed away suddenly due to trachea problems. Another reason to look into Caviller’s. I realize Cavalier’s may have heart problems as well as joint problems. The joint issues I’m used to have a therapy dog before my Pom’s that happened to be a long haired Chihuahua ( not the typical breed for a therapy dog so I don’t recommend a Chihuahua as a therapy dog in case one may be thinking about this breed. He was simply a very unusual and amazingly friendly Chihuahua. Not a common trait either in a Chihuahua breed and I groomed him too. A Cavalier appears to have a bit different type of tools that work best on their coats. I’m almost ready just want to get the correct grooming tools. Your video us extremely helpful to understand the grooming process fir a Caviller plus how to have a dog thst truly loves attention. A well groomed dog and personality is vital when bringing a service dog into a doctors office, it’s the thing that helps acceptance and opens doors for therapy dogs. Thanks in advance for telling me where yo find the tools you used. 💕
This is such a great video - what age do you recommend starting the carding? My puppy is 10 months, should I already be doing this? or after her full coat is grown in?
I would say 6 months old is a good time to start for a thick coat.
Great job. Would you do a Boykin Spaniel the same way?
As far as the carding is concerned, yes.
❤your tutorial Where did you get your nail grinder please 😊

Just today saw a Blenheim Cavalier King Charles, but in such poor health/ coat condition, I couldn't look much, other than I noticed it needed a good bath, clean out the eye debris, maybe some trimming. It would have been lovely dog but I don't know it nor the owner so I couldn't suggest/say anything 😥
Love the addition of the blogs to the videos, excellent followup👍
It’s hard when you truly enjoy animal care and you have to tiptoe around people who have not learned the joy of caring for your animals.

Thank you for posting this. My black and gold has a lot of growth on the top of her head. Will this method work for top of the head also?
The stone will help, but I usually remove that coat by gently hand stripping it.
@@grandestyledoggrooming Thank you! do you do the hand stripping with the carding tool? would love to see a video on how to do this! thank you!
I have a EquiGroomer brush and a flee comb. Would you still recommend the carding tools you have? Or is what I have ok??
Depending on the dog’s individual coat, it may be enough. If the coat is lying fairly flat, it should be fine.
Questions: How often do you recommend washing a cav? Do you use any hairdryer and what stand do you put the hairdryer on?
Every 3 weeks. I use a stand dryer made for dogs. You can buy a holder for your dryer at tableworks.com
What type of blow dryer do you use? It sounded so quiet and gentle blowing!
