If the water pressure into your RO System is too low, then you'll need to purchase a "Boost Pump". If a flow restrictor is blocked, then your RO membrane will become clogged more easily and you'll also notice INCREASED TDS readings.
The link provided below is the BEST deal for a 5 stage RO system that includes an extra set of filters. Thanks for watching!

Best system tutorial on CZcams after all this time. My tank pressure was low and even lowered it further in ignorance as I was clueless. Put in 7 psi and voila, back to normal. I like the way every part is explained in detail and the why is also offered to the viewer. I now have more confidence in dealing with reverse osmosis and can explain to my other half the intricacies that beset the operation of this aquatic filtration apparatus.

This video was very helpful to understand the breakdown of the components in an RO system, their functions and how they are interconnected. Thanks...

Here you go, lessons I learned the hard way (my ASO value would not operate correctly):
    1) Make SURE you understand the IN & OUT ports and hook up the lines correctly to ASO valve.
    2) Use ONLY hard lines to interconnect (dont use clear lines from home depot, they are too soft and value wont shutoff correctly).
    3) Keep all hard tube lengths to ASO value as short as possible.
    4) On all connections make sure the tubes push all the way down
    5) On all post carbon filters, post filters, etc...dont plug directly into these filters, first always use a push in connector then push your tube into those connectors.
I did all above and fixed my ASO value RO system operation.

    Question:
I replaced all 5 components and drained my tank, when I turn on the water back on to flush it, should I leave the valve tank shut off before allowing it to fill?

Thanks for making a great video, you taught me so much. I can now tackle my own RO issue of low water output. Had just one question for you. I noticed you haven't any calcite filter between the final stage taste and odor filter and your sink faucet. I was always told that you need a calcite filter there to put back into your water some healthy minerals which also enhance the RO water taste. RO water taste is very bland normally because the system removes so much of the good minerals along with the bad. Love to hear any thoughts you have on this. Thanks again.

I think that mineral 'filter' also prevents the water from being too ionically 'hungry'. Like they say, never buy distilled water in a plastic container because it will leach plastic. I don't have one because i'm afraid it'd fill up my Keurig with calcium...but maybe i should anyway.

THANK YOU!!! I ordered a cheap RO system (under $100). It came with little to no instructions highlighting that it should be installed by a professional. It came with a roll of white tube, not the pretty color coded ones like other systems. I watched many RO installation videos, but knowing the why makes all the difference. Now that I know what does what, I can confidently install this puppy. It didnt come with a tap for the dirty water so off the I go to the hardware store. I have a plant room in the back of the house. I was thinking of splitting the RO feed, running a line through the attic (insulated no doubt) and into the back room to my reservior tank. Distance of about 50 feet. What are your thoughts. Will normal water pressure make the run?

At 13:05, when you blow through the check valve, should you get a smooth air coming out the other end? I blow through my check valve and I do feel air coming out the other end, but not strong air coming out comparing to the pressure that I'm blowing. When I blow from the other end where the pink ring is, no air is coming out the other end, so the check valve is working. I'm having very low water rate coming out of the check valve and I'm trying to figure out the problem.

12:52 check valve, I can't understand why pressure would not build up anyway , if not running would it not build up pressure and close the shut off?

great video, thank you. I recently purchased a Davis and Shirtliff 6 stage under sink RO apparatus and I have just recently replaced the three filters. Straight after replacing the system I restarted the system instead of working normally it starts, stutters non-stop and pushes through a few drops of water with every stutter. Any idea what the problem might be?

  • @buddybeetle
    @buddybeetle Před 6 lety

Very clear video - thank you. I have a problem still. My 5 stage RO system passes water directly to the drain. I have tested the auto shut-off valve as 'working'. The check valve once passes a slight amount of air in the correct directing. The tank fills with water - and water comes out the faucet. Water still goes to the drain. Do you have an an idea what could be wrong ? I have 5.1 Bar of mains water pressure.

You have any advice or information on how to retrofit a permeate pump into an existing system? Do you recommend their use to improve the efficiency and reduce water usage?
Does the pressure shut off valve still get used when a permeate pump is installed?
    Thanks!

My RO system was hissing for a few hours and then suddenly it's constantly draining water now. Tank is empty and not filling up. The drain tube has condensation so it's high pressure water constantly flowing. As soon as I shut off the water, the drain stops. Once I turn on the water, it seems like the water goes straight to the drain. What could be causing this?

  • @Untouched1900

Low out put volume of water. How do I know it’s my pressure tank or membrane? First was thinking it was a bad tank. Left sink Faucet open till no water. Tank was heavy as if full of water. Took tank outside and opened the valve. Water came out for many minutes as if no issues. Picked tank up and shook. Felt empty and light. So now I am thinking it’s the membrane. Please educate me.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  Před 3 lety +1

For the pressure tank, just drain out all the water and make sure the pressure is correct(6 to 8 psi). If you have low water production, then either your filter stages before the RO are clogged(especially the first filter connected to the water supply), or you need a new membrane. You can also try to backflush the RO membrane.

Today the ASO (auto shut off) valve is outdated. Its inefficient in dealing with wasted water. If your household water pressure is sufficient - get "permeat pump" instead of ASO, it will hydraulically boost both membrane filter speed and reduce wasted water. If your household has low pressure or you want big membrane+no tank aka "direct flow"- get booster pump with ASO instead.

  • @TheSuburbanExperimentalist

how much pressure should you have to use to blow through the check valve in the direction of water flow?
I have a new ISpring RCC7, which I have had nothing but problems with.
I was sent two new check valves. One of which, I could barely blow through in the direction it should be open.
On the other, I could blow through it if I used very quick, short bursts that actually made my head hurt, and made my cheeks hurt like I was blowing into a trumpet or something.
I don't know how hard you should have to blow through these check valves, but I think if I "tested" them too much, I might give myself an aneurysm....
I think this system I installed is pretty cheaply made....

    • @electronicsNmore

      +The Suburban Hippie Experimentalist
Some valves can require some pressure to allow the flow. Just make sure it only works in one direction. You can also do what I did in the video when my check valve failed causing the water to run all the time.
