@@jk3053 I disagree, if you watch the complete broadcast as I have, you will see that Bill Maher is actually in awe of Burr, and would have lit into him far more than he did if he didn't respect his comedic chops while (perhaps) envy his current popularity and influence in popular culture. I have always thought that Bill Maher had created great platforms for political discussion, but his personal contribution to the "free market of ideas" have often been poorly articulated or even intellectually dishonest.

I think Maher means the easiest line to take is some vaguely pro-Palestinian sentiment like, "we need to stop the killing in Gaza" or "we need an immediate cease-fire." Things that would only return things to an awful status quo but sound good to many people right now. It *is* more difficult to say, "the war and the killing must continue."
I'm a fan of Bill Burr, but I don't think he has much expertise on the Israel-Palestine issue. However, I wouldn't consider Maher a scholar on it either. Just more knowledgable than Burr.

I do not understand why Israel is seen to have a 'right' to militarily respond to Oct 7 attack, while Hamas is not seen to have had any 'right' to militarily respond to the many attacks by Israel - Oct 7 was Hamas/Palestinian response to Israel attacks!

To be fair to Bill Maher, the fact that he is getting criticized by Burr, this show and everyone else because he is taking a minority and very unpopular opinion shows some kind of bravery because he is at risk of getting cancelled either by the media or by the culture.

Yeah, that's not how these kinds of things are worked out. But one side is trying to use that as a metric so they can point to something that looks bad. Not saying there might be a better way, but these counts aren't the key factor.
