  • This was a spontaneous narrative on my frustration with everything... the homing pigeon's dismembered leg was pure serendipity. I called the number on the leg ring, the owner said he thought the pigeons from his homing group had been attacked, dive bombed by a Peregrine Falcon. sad

The only shops that seem to spring up in every town is kebab shops and Turkish barber shops

I know it's probably too late now, but don't buy things online. Don't go to big supermarkets. Use your local high street shops.

Went a few years ago; retail closed down, full of charity shops, bookmakers and young unemployed men walking the streets pushing baby buggies - a distopian atmosphere at best !

Back in the 70s at the bottom I think in the tower was a beautiful cafe. It was always packed and I think it was on at least 2 floors.

    I love Berwick.
Yes like most towns and cities it has empty shops, even the shops that are present are often closed on certain days or early.
I cant get to Berwick as often as I used to due to the cost of travel now, but I still go when I can. I never go for the shopping, you can do that anywhere. I do pop in supermarkets and get a shop but that is not why I go.
I go because it is a place full of happy memories from bygone years, a place where unlike my home city, the places in the memories have not been demolished.
It is full of beauty, history, the walls, the buildings, the coast etc.
It is a dream since childhood to live in Berwick, but I doubt I will ever get to fulfil that dream.
To me the only thing that spoils berwick, apart from the fact the market is not what I remember, and they replaced a lovely supermarket with a ugly looking building for a law firm - is the old people driving like lunatics.
Apart from that, it is like heaven on earth to me.

It should be a buzzing joyful restful and vibrant place. It's just downtrodden, depressing and miserable. On bank holidays it's dead when the other coastal towns from Eyemouth to Craster are mobbed

My tiny 1 bedroom flat is £1,100 rent per month in Hertfordshire and I have cancer, it ridiculous. Council trying charge me £1800 on council tax a year.

If you think Berwick is broken you want to explore some towns down South. Its better to have charity shops than empty shops. You want a quaint little town but then moan the large chain shops have closed? I visited last month and did not think it was run down. You do not want a busy shopping centre. Queuing for every purchase and nowhere to park. Dirt, noise, vandalism.... Having a well paid job isnt luck! I would rather live there than here, different pace of life. I am in London and we get Peregrines killing our pigeons too! I hear you and liked the video and thought I would give my thoughts on your comments. :)

My mates on universal credit. It's a catch 22. He can't work more hours or his universal credit is cut but its the universal credit that helps with the rent cause he went through a nasty divorce and custody battle. So how can he really move forward. It's a depressing sight across the UK

I'm guessing that the new shopping centre at the top of the town isn't doing the high street any favours , shame because it really is a nice town

Yes. I went up to see Home Bargains a couple of days later and the car park was close to full and there was a small traffic jam at the new roundabout. Berwick's town planning has been a mess for decades. Bad communications poor thinking no strategic overview always looking inward loads of infighting

I am from Hertfordshire I wanted to go to Berwick on tweed as tourist but looking at ridiculous high cost of trains, hotel, so on and cab fees £45 around the town it is a no go it ridiculous. Cheaper to go abroad.

I was in Berwick a couple of years ago. I went back to visit because it held good memories for me from when I was a teenager (three decades earlier). It was so depressing how dingy the town had become. A lot of dodgy-looking characters hanging about in groups as well (some local hotels obviously being utilised by the Home Office, like everywhere else now). It was a shame. At least down by the water was still nice with the bridges.
