Story#1: Judges absolutely HATE it when you don't show up or make them look like a fool by lying to them...as OP's ex found out...should have just left him alone.
Story#2: There is NO WAY that I would have set foot back on her property...at all...ever...for any reason. It was made very clear previously that she would lie to get him in trouble.
I had MANY experiences way worse than these with my 1st ex...she was horrid...her family even worse...hell even her lawyer tried to fuck me up by lying in court.
I got my last laughs in the end though...I finally got a visit with my daughter after 6 years of no contact...and I filed for and got emergency custody...in Texas.
And in the end the ex died...2 years ago...alone and unloved by either of us...good riddance to an awful creature that made everyone around her hate her with a passion.

Your judge saying "I think there's a bit of this going on on both sides" is absolutely typical. I went through some of this with an ex in a child custody dispute, in some ways more extreme. I ended up with full custody but it took 4.5 years of escalating abuse of the legal system and all along the way the court relied on the assumption that any contentious custody dispute must be blamed equally on both parties. In the end the court always splitting the difference between the truth and a lie only emboldened the mom to up the ante for greater gain. Ultimately it backfired and the court went from typically brief hearings to a full day's trial where they took the time to figure it out and unravel the lies. Sadly if you are in a custody dispute with someone willing to abuse the system it can be a nightmare until the court catches on to what's happening, if they ever do.

@@AllenTax Your ex can get a temporary restraining order against you in less than a day based on a simple declaration and no evidence. How long various things take depends on the court's calendar and any need for investigations, reviews and evidence etc. There are systems in place like Family Court Services, private mediation, private court approved and appointed therapists, court approved parenting class, Child Protective Services, visitation monitoring services etc. One or more might have to conduct reviews or get scheduled and completed, this will all vary state to state and perhaps district to district, then the court hearings are the events that consider all this input and issue orders. In my case from her most serious accusation to me being granted primary and full custody (there's a distinction between physical and legal custody) took 8 months (from memory), involved several 3rd party reviews, several smaller hearings and a full day hearing at the end that had to be scheduled.

as a cop myself i can tell you that these types of calls happen all the time when it comes to custody battle between parents. one is always calling on the other with some crazy story of what he or she did. 99% of the time it turns out to be BS. I cant tell you how many times we deal with these things and every cop hates seeing a call pending that has to do with any custody dispute.

That woman sounds like my first wife. She sat in my lawyers office while we divided up property and he told us he'd get a court date where we could make it all legal. Instead she and her mother went to the courthouse the next day trying to file default on me. I happened to drop in that day because a friend had a court date that was going to be iffy so I wanted to witness it for myself, and saw my ex and mum with legal papers trying to file default on me. My lawyer was NOT amused and stopped that in its tracks.

Makes me think of a reddit post where this OP worked for a company that if they called in sick they weren't allowed to ask for symptoms or anything but this karen thought she was above that. She antagonized OP so much that he sent her a message of his toilet. Well she deleted all her messages and took it to HR saying it was unprompted. She was surprised when Op showed the actual phone conversation.

So, here's a scary thought: You can apparently easily get a restraining order against somebody with more than a week before it can be challenged, and they have to give up their firearms and possibly other means of self-defense while it's in place. Sounds like a great way to ensure a woman who bought a firearm to protect herself from an abusive predator is unarmed during a known stretch of time.

In my opinion, if one of the parents cheats on the other, the parent who was cheated on should get full custody of the child as long as there is no evidence of abuse. A child should not have to see the cheater who ruined the family
