The BEST and most underrated 5.3LS is the *05-06 LH6*. It's THE aluminum block gen 3/4 in-betweener. It came w a gen 3 24x reluctor wheel for easy wiring, but also got the much beefier gen 4 rods and high volume oil pump. LS swap the world.
Factory oil pumps are already made by melling, and also, dont widdle with high pressure oil pumps, go with high volume pumps. Pumps pump volume, not pressure. Pressure is resistance to the volume being pumped.
Also there compact size and low weight make them so versatile!! A 5.3L N/A is good for around 500hp (crank) with stock heads (799/706), upgraded cam, injectors, intake, headers, a tune, and full exhaust

In my opinion the iton block is the go to for drag racing and big power, but if you want an autocross or drift car i would go alumi block. You dont need as much power and they are a lot lighter.
Really no reason not to run aluminum on these engines. They are plenty strong enough, and with some nicer aftermarket main caps, they are WAAAY better and stronger than factory with increased oil flow within the bottom end.
@@sethh8892 I agree but for the money you can take a 460 bbf and twin turbo it and run over 1000hp. It just depends on what kind of power band you want and how much you wanna spend. At the end of the day that big block is still fighting 2jz and vr38.

I agree with you one those old Jeep engines, but their forte was always endurance and reliability. Even for 20 years ago, it was always weak.
