Isn't that the most perfect song?!
Tupelo honey.....is fire!
Do "Tupelo Honey" next.
My personal favorite and Caravan.
Yes yes …Tupelo Honey!
If your doing Van the Man.... check out “Bright Side of the Road”
This is my favorite Van Morrison song!
"And It Stoned Me" gotta do that one.
To my soul…
Please do Van Morrison with The Band -the Last Waltz. The song is "Caravan". And YES, the bass line kicks on Moondance
VAN MORRISON, "MOON DANCE"... MY FAVORITE BY HIM SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG... "IT'S A MARVELOUS NIGHT FOR A MOON DANCE....
Wild Night and Domino are the 2 songs that are essential to hear
these! was about to suggest Domino, its probably my favorite Van Morrison song, though Brown Eyed Girl and Moondance are up there too.
Absolutely‼🔥
Jackie Wilson Said.
It's Reet Petite.
If he is going to do a reaction of wild night, I would like him to do John Melloncamp's version.
VAN the MAN
They can't make MUSIC like this anymore!!
This whole album is like a greatest hits. I teach painting classes and this is one of my go-to mood music. Young, old, black, white, male, female. Impossible to not like! I probably play this entire album 150 times a year at work and I truly never get tired of it! I even sometimes play it at home in my studio when I paint. (One of my other go-tos: Paul Simon "Graceland" Crowd pleaser). Smile on!
Van the man has a massive music catalogue and is well worth diving into
I agree, it would be nice if people would delve deeper for reactions.
I have always loved this song. However, if you really want to hear the flute in rock, you're not going to find much better than Jethro Tull. Certainly other bands use the flute to some degree, and do so very well (Traffic, The Moody Blues, etc.), it is the chosen instrument of Jethro Tull's Leader/Songwriter/Singer Ian Anderson.
Yes I also like the flute parts in Jethro Tull
"Angry Eyes" by Loggins & Messina also has a flute solo.
Chod is one of the few reactors I think would really understand Jethro Tull well, because of his jazz background. He understands development, transitions, and underlying structures of music better than most.
Start with "Aqualung" for a taste, then dive into "My God" to see what they can really do.
Jethro Tull is definitely a band to check out! I’d recommend Aqualung, followed by Locomotive Breath
@@douglasgonzalez7561 Why does everyone think that the Aqualung album is a great intro to Tull?
One of my favorite singers. He was also in the 60's band Them, so you might want to check out some of their songs "Here Comes the Night" and "Gloria".
For sure. Those songs were epic and quite different from his more well known stuff.
@@dantallman5345 The guitar riff in "Here comes the Night" is quintessential Rock'n'Roll. Patti Smith's "Gloria" is on a whole other level.
Thx. You are right. I just checked out Patti Smith version for the 1st time.
The whole Moondance album is fantastic. There's a Deluxe Version on Spotify and other streaming services with a bunch of alternate takes of each song. Van fans - check it out.
This song has become a jazz classic. The flute, the bass, the sax, the melody, it is completely insane.
Try "Jackie Wilson Said".
Rock and Roll flute playing? Check out Jethro Tull!
Van's heart is as much jazz as rock. He went home for his 70th birthday and did a concert called Live on Cypress Avenue. It's about an hour long. I think you would really enjoy it.
One of the smoothest tunes ever, good stuff.
I grew up with the clarinet so I love it. I grew up with Klezmer music, Eastern European Jewels music and clarinet is an important instrument.
Moondance is probably my favorite by him, just a great song. Just a really cool vibe.
"Tupelo Honey" is as beautiful as a romantic song can be.
Joan Osborne does a cover that's worth checking out.
Van Morrison was Classic 70s, my high school era. What we really loved back then was that most of the great bands not only had guitar, bass guitar and drums BUT they had an entire Brass section: trumpet, trombone, saxophone and clarinet. We had local bands that were so good BECAUSE they would imitate bands like Van Morrison's with complete brass section. Another band with Great Brass from the 70s is Tower of Power (a Calif band) -- you should review them 👍
Do the song Domino
Way too much great music to choose from, one that I love, is titled "Crazy Love" the list will go on and on.and speaking of flute, Jethro Tull would be a band to check out.
Van does what he pleases. Wonderful artis, still active and kicking.
Check out INTO THE MYSTIC, and TUPELO HONEY for his sweetest hits
As a Jazz fan, I knew you would love this song. This entire album, start to finish is definitely worth a listen...every tune is awesome.
Sweet Thing and Astral Weeks form the Astral Weeks album have incredible "unplugged" jazz arrangements - that rock. Classic tracks so I have to recommend those.
Listen to "Astral Weeks!" Richard Davis was the bass player and de facto band leader. He previously was the bassist of Eric Dolphy. Also, Connie Kay, former drummer of Modern Jazz Quartet, was the drummer on "Astral Weeks." He asked Van what he should play and Van replied, "Play anything you want."
Wild Night and Jackie Wilson Said will show you another side of Van Morrison. This man is incredible.
Yet another great song by Mr. Van Morrison. So many more to hear but Brown Eyed Girl will stay at the top for personal reasons and it is the first song that I learned to play.
Van the Man! My favorite artist of all time. I suggest watching his performance of Caravan at the Last Waltz. Legendary!
Was part of the "American Werewolf in London" soundtrack... ? early 80's.
Yep.Great song in a great movie.
‘‘Twas indeed... played over the love making scene. Jenny Agutter 😍😍😍
With your jazz roots this song should feel like an old friend to you!
For more flute, you need to dive into the Jethro Tull rabbit hole! It's a fun trip! Love this song as well!
Cee, you were diggin' the jazzy piano and sax solos!! 😊😊
Try Caravan its a great song
'Caravan', done with The Band, from 'The Last Waltz'.
"Caravan" is a cool one. "When the Rough Gods Go Riding" is stellar.
Into The Mystic...another great tune. Anything Van Morrison, you can't go wrong!!
If you have a jazz background, you might find it interesting to hear Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks doing "I feel like singing". Some interesting scat and underestimated band I think. I also enjoy "How can I miss you if you won't go away". A very quirky group. I hope you enjoy them
Hearing them with headphones is a plus, but remember these songs were arranged for AM radio and you can hear the flute loud and clear sailing down the freeway with the windows open 😝
and don't forget the amazing luscious poetry in Van's words. Good gracious. Been listening to Moondance since its release in the early 70's and it is fresh, new, exciting every time I hear it. Yes to Tupelo Honey listed below. But if you like instruments, check out Van's Astral Weeks album. Studio Jazz musicians let loose on that one.
Great Jazz singer Carmen Mcrae (Can't Hide Love). The Bass in that song was something. As far as Dave Brubeck playing Take Five, I was sitting about 25ft from his group in the late fifties at a small venue at Tennessee State University. They played Take Five of course. What a treat. I was in the military at the time and visiting my girlfriend
Tons of Van Morrison stuff left. "Sweet Thing" is really good. It is a little played song for reasons I can't explain.
That is my song
August Rush anyone? Flute is definitely Jethro Tull Ian Anderson realized he would never play guitar as well as Eric Clapton so he switched to flute- self taught by the way. Elegy off of Stormwatch studio version the flute and electric guitar played by Martin Barr speak to each other eloquently on that track. Composed by and orchestrated by David/Dee Palmer. Another really great place to find flute is Dan Fogelberg /Tim Wiesberg "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" Great reaction! This is my favorite Van Morrison song.
I knew you would love this one..a great jazzy tune by Van.
Dig deep into the catalogue - amazing stuff for decades. The latest album is brilliant too.
Break out.....be the first to get a reaction/first time to Horishima Nagasaki Russian Roulette by a band called Moving Hearts. Musicianship beyond compare (great lyrics too! )
Love, love, love this song!
Caravan, everything, crazy love, domino, Jackie Wilson said, and it stoned me
If you like clarinet try some Benny Goodman orchestra
Absolutely adore this song!
Another song that has (synthesized) flute near the end is 'There's a Light That Never Goes Out' by The Smiths. Fantastic song.
Come on now I know everyone was singing their butts, off right. Chod, definitely has the best reactions and the best group of subscribers. It's time to introduce him to the MOODY BLUES send in your ideas everyone. PEACE
Ok you got me. I was singing my butt off sitting here watching. I usually sing along but it's ok my cats don't mind. As far as Moody Blues go.....all of em'.
@@booboo8577 Okay Chod, just did a reaction from the Tedeschi Trucks band a special request for me. So I'll do what I can but we're probably going to have to try to get the word out for the Moody Blues. PEACE HIPPIE JOE
I vote for the Moody Blues too.
"Legend of a Mind" could be a good introduction.
@Vincent Schmitt Brother I get where your coming from and with so much of the great music out there, I (Used) to ask people what they thought certain songs that they heard and sang every day was about ,and be soo... off it hurt.
Maybe its because growing up we / I had few less digital distractions? Anyway be well my friend.
I love Van Morrison so smooth! You want to hear some crazy flute. Check out Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson is a fricken nut!!
Also self taught flutist.
awesome flute in the piece ' Stand Up' by the Aquarium Rescue Unit , great jazz fusion group with wide Spread Panic's Jimmy Herring on lead guitar , Oteill Burbridge ,bass ,
Oh my Chod, thank you, thank you for this. The reason many subscribers ask for this is we knew you would appreciate the vocals and instruments as we have done for decades. Thanks again for one of my favorites.
Even the British guys can do some Jazz. Van is one of the greats from England along with another favorite, Steve Winwood.
He’s Northern Irish.
Used to hear this on the radio all the time. How lucky can you get?
Van has one of the most distinct and expressive voices ever. Can't imagine anyone else singing his songs because of his unique singing style. His love song, Tupelo Honey, is an awesome song to react to next but he has so many others you could do.
Georgie Fame did an impressive cover of Moondance. It suits his jazz/pop style. Actually, come to think of it, it might have been a duet with Van... Hmm..
There are about 50 more worthy VM songs to to. Domino maybe should be next.
Btw- Does anybody else hope the driver side wiper was working?
I really enjoyed you really enjoying it! Listen, it's definitely worth you checking out Van with the Caledonian Soul Orchestra from the live album 'It's too late to stop now' and I would suggest you review the following song performance: Cyprus Avenue - 9/23/1970 - Fillmore East, New York as you will not regret it. The Belfast one (his hometown) is also utter magic: Cyprus Avenue - 2/1/1979 - Belfast
Don't forget Blue Money.....I gotta dance whenever that one comes on the radio!
You look so happy during this song! It fits your style, doesn't it? Me, too.
Love most if not all the suggested songs below. Huge Van Fan here. BUT there's something extra, extra special about "And the Healing Has Begun". Wilburn, if you dare listen to the pinnacle first, I'd love to see your reaction to it.
the quality of this recording is superb - it's 50 years old!
Deep, deep rabbit hole here with Van the Man! Only about 40-50 albums, and Moondance is one of the best for my money! From the same album, try "And It Stoned Me" "Crazy Love" and "Caravan". The live "Caravan" performed at The Band's final performance, The Last Waltz, is really kicking! (literally) "Domino" "Tupelo Honey" "Call Me Up in Dreamland" "Crazy Face" "Wild Night" "Old Old Woodstock" "When The Evening Sun Goes Down" "St. Dominic's Preview" Hell, I could go on, and on, and on.........
Vans catalog is huge. Two newer songs are "In the days before rock and roll" and
" Enlightenment ". You will be changed.
DOMINO- VAN MORRISON, funky and catchy as hell.........
When I think of flute in popular music I always think of Jethro Tull but it's surprising how much it was used by other people as well.
I suggest "Wild Night" for your next Morrison song. You did 2 of my all-time favorite artists the same day - Morrison and Bob Dylan - and one of my favorite songs of each of them.
Someone like You! Van Morrison!!
A few Van Morrison song recommendations: "Sweet Thing" from the ASTRAL WEEKS album (headphones on, eyes shut). The entire MOONDANCE album. The entire HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR album. The entire TUPELO HONEY album. The entire SAINT DOMINIC'S PREVIEW album. "Alan Watts Blues" from POETIC CHAMPIONS COMPOSE. "Rough God Goes Riding" from THE HEALING GAME.
I'd forgotten how jazzy this magnificent tune is!
Two more for you to check out from Van Morrison "Domino" and "Cleaning Windows" (
Van the man, you have to hear the album Astral Weeks, and the song with the same name, They way long lovers do.
Your not alone having Brown Eyed Girl as your favourite. But Moondance is a close second! I,m still waiting for a Blue Rodeo , Bad Timing appearence on your channel. It's ok though. I'm patient and good things come to those who wait. Cheers!
Hey now! I was a flute player in school. I agree that you have to check out Jethro Tull. Also Jean Luc Ponty's "Imaginary Voyage" for straight up amazing flute playing!
Van the MAN from Belfast, Ireland. Try "And It Stoned Me"
Great reaction, I think you were in heaven by your expression. He always has such great arrangements and instrumentation on ever thing he does. You cant go wrong going down the rabbit hole of his material. I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
Love, love, love, LOVE your reaction as the song unfolded. This song never gets old to me. Such awesome musicians.
There's LOTS more jazzy Van Morrison where that came from. Try *Astral Weeks* for some great arrangements. The flute features.
Ohh goodness just had a thought your kids would love his song " Went to the zoo " dance around the living room Cheers
Lol, knew you’d like that one ! Masterpiece, and you got it, the bass drives that. I saw you feel the notes before they came, lol, nice job !
This is my second most favorite song with the word [ moon ] in the title. My absolute favorite is "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck an ancient oldie pop song from several decades ago
Dude, "Moonlight" by Starbuck actually contains my favorite solo of all time. Say what?? Yes, even as an old fart who cherishes literally hundreds of classic solos across the rock/pop spectrum, the marimba solo in this song is SICK. Whoda thought some mid level POP song from the early 70's could have such a great solo? Nobody, but it freakin' does.
@@toddhooks9813 Oh wow was it a marimba rather than a xylophone? That's even more exotic and alluring.
My favorite VM song! It was in the movie An American Werewolf In London.
Someone Like You, and Tupelo Honey should be on your Van Morrison list.
You remind me so much of me and friends when we'd be listening to a new album ........(almost) no talk. Just immersed in music...............wonderful post.
Great reaction! You should hear Van when he stretches out. Try Summertime in England or Listen to the Lion.
This music lifts me into a wonderland
If you like the flute, check out Jethro Tull, and early Genesis, when Peter Gabriel was the lead singer, he played flute here and there.
Winburn -- first-rate appreciation and reaction of this 30-plus year piece out of Ireland (we live in U.S. and Ireland (Cork>Cobh). "Cove"
Great reactions. "Into the mystic". Classic
This is about to become your new favorite
the bass in that song is about the best you're ever going to hear. I've listened to that song for 50 years and I cannot stop myself lending my ears to that big bass fiddle!!!!!
Almost anything from Van the Man is fabulous. If I remember right he plays the sax on this track
I got so excited when I saw you were reacting to this masterpiece. Because I knew you would jam to it.
This song is one of the all time greats!! It reaches deep into a persons soul.
A suggestion, not necessarily for a reaction, but for you enjoyment. Levi Barcourt and The New York Jazz Quartet's cover of this song
The thing you miss in this song without headphones is the great acoustic rhythm guitar. That was Van and also the sax as well as the vocals.
