      If you're Black and successful, white people expect you to be meek and humble, as if confidence doesn't help people become successful in the first place. Black success is treated as something that white people bequeath to us. Like we're allowed to be good and so we have to be grateful for them, even if they don't contribute a single red cent.

    This was so damn racial. Anyone too young to experience it, you had to be there. The white males in the entertainment industry were "threatened" (even Seinfeld admitted this, to Eddie) by Eddie Murphy and Michael Jackson's MEGA star status. So, they purposely created campaigns to discredit both icons. First, they refused to grant ANY Grammy wins, to Michael Jackson (1988). Not even "Man In the Mirror". Watching the Grammys with my family, we were screaming at the TV. I mean, the envy and anti-Michael hate was BLATANT, during that era.
    With Eddie, they didn't like his 1988 Oscars speech, about movies and discrimination. They didn't like this Black male comedian, on the same MEGA level as his friend, Michael Jackson. Then, at the HEIGHT of his fame, he hired an ALL-BLACK CAST (all legends), for "Harlem Nights (1989)". Even then, at 13 years old, I knew the hate and envy was palpable. The theater was filled with mostly Black folks, and we were laughing our asses off. But, the "anti-Harlem Nights" agenda was malicious. I'm so glad Eddie made that film. The comic legends in one film.✌🏾👍🏾

      No lies detected. The Boomerang review from the guy at the L.A. Times that it was 'unrealistic' that there would be a bunch of Black successful executives. That's when I knew...and I was 13 at that time, so I guess we figured things out around the same time! Harlem Nights is hilarious...funnier than Nutty Professor, which they loved. For obvious reasons.

    Lol a little harsh to say he's lazy and unapproachable in the commentary and then be polite to his face

    Calling him a womanizer...and the other disparaging remarks between the questions...got to me a little bit. I understand that interviewers have to get into the interviewee...(if thats a word) I just didnt think the extra commentary was necessary.

    • @manuginobilisbaldspot424
      @manuginobilisbaldspot424 Před 3 lety +2

      He was a world class womanizer. It's not something Eddie himself would've denied. He played Whitney Houston many times. This was back before the internet, so not everyone was nearly as privy to what celebs were about.
