In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he'll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

I remember watching this video as a little kid back in 2009 and being in absolute awe. This man inspired me to pursue engineering. 10 years later, as a graduating software engineering i’m a little upset he couldn’t turn this into the next Microsoft or Apple. He was surely ahead of his time back then and still is now.
You are not the only one. I felt this so amazing! I also feel sad it didn't keep developing. I felt this research has a lot of potentials. I think it can help a lot in the development of the XR.
He grew up and realised the importance of money and sold out. Now we're all reading this on our smartphones instead of walls.
This was over a decade ago, and he stated in the video that the first object was made around 2000. This guy was on a different level 23 years ago. He also became the head of Samsung smart watches.
AI pin reminds me totally of this! I've been waiting for this 7th sense gadget with so much excitement since 2010.
He was the vice president of Samsung I remember
The fact that this was 11 years ago, i am now questioning my perception of how advanced this world now 🙆
Right?!
I can't belive it's not about that's how capitalism holds us back
WHEN I SAW THIS in 2014 I wanted one haha
@@adrianesmerio449 now vr is available Boz of this ...n he didn't got any credit...
@Steven Amoah so Socialism/Communism is your answer?
Anyone here in 2020?
These inventions shown here are 10+ years old.Whenever I see new tech as of now, its bland.
And then I come back here and rewatch this video...
Ngl the best of future is yet to come.
YES! I feel like humanity has become super primitive now. Nothing mind boggling has come out in the last 10 years. Human creativity has slowly died down. Where is this product? Why hasn't it reached the masses? I feel like we are going in the wrong direction technology wise. Apple released the iPhone 12 a few weeks ago, and there is not much difference from its predecessor the iPhone 11. I wonder how many more years we need to wait for the 'Next big thing' technology wise which will affect the masses
Yes
i am the future

Proud to be indian .pranav sir hats 👒off
He is the Global Vice President of Research at Samsung now. Samsung Gear Wearables are his products
If that's true...Samsung found a Steve Jobs to work for them.

I think Samsung is slowing him down.. what a great opportunities...
Not director?
True engineer he is...from experimenting with 2 mouses and now VP of samsung R n D...a lot more to come...India is proud of u Pranav:)

Observing this in 2023! And more than ten years later, what he demonstrated back then still blows people's minds. This guy is amazing.
I am not indian but i also proud of this awesome future designer man 😊
The origin of Apple Vision Pro 😀
I do remember watching this video 12 years ago, back in my college days, and getting excited about the future.
Now, the future is here 🤩
Pranav Mistry is truly smart, intelligent and inventor. That's the evolution human brain to challenge the future to come.
Does he realise he's changin the world in the most modern way in history
samsung realized

i'm serious by the way

Come to India and you will feel the brotherhood!
To be true you won't particularly feel anything....
A visionary for sure, and to make his idea open source when he could probably make a bajillion rupees... He partly restored my faith in humanity, until I realised its 7 years later and when you google 'sixth sense' 'technology' isn't even in the suggestion list.
he made the Samsung vr gear
I agree this guy is a genius but too humble in this world. If a guy with high charisma ego and ambition like Elon Musk or Steve Jobs had this idea, I swear this would have been a huge revolution on how we use our devices now.
I feel I am in 1900, I also love the fact that he started from a mouse and tried to make it as easy to use as possible in terms of just using your finger tips to scroll, he also explored the possibilities of how it would help our everyday lives where we won't have to use a phone to do the necessary basic tasks, this was in fact the foundation of VR and AR which meta and google is now fully investing in.
I feel now being More Proud to be Indian :)!! Thank you Pranav.. Every Indian is proud of you.
@Übermensch true
my goodness !!! pranav is a super genius
reiloveable thanks
Thank you 😌
@@futuristicdeath ha ha, We are Smart bro
What a phenomenal young man! Wow. Mind blown.
I might be a little late to the party but I have to say, this might be one of Ted's best and most intellectual videos. Best of luck Mr. Mistry.
It’s really Incredible. What I surprised is not only the technique he had, but also the insight that at first he thought he should make computer more intuitive to use but finally he found it more important to bring digital things to the reality.
Like he said in the end, more than making life convenient, it also make people less like a machine sitting in front of the machine, which probably is a big problem in present.
He is now the Head of Innovation at Samsung, working to perfect the driverless car using the computer vision that you see here. How cool is that!
WOW!!! This guy is really promising... I love this tech TED video the best.
+Ansuman Mahapatra , yes you are right, this seems like best TED Talk, proud of you Pranav, keep it up

I think the website was taken down
imagine being a kid 10 years ago lmao
This is 9 years old. What happened? Where is this tech? What are you waiting for?
Any update?
I would like to know that to be honest.
I would say, today, a great proportion of these needs are fulfilled with smartphones.
He is samsung research wing head..and have implemented several till now.
My school librarian’s (whose name I will not mention) brother personally knows this man. He told the librarian that the reason this isn’t here is because the public’s not ready, which makes sense.
AlphaGamma Primal easy.... don’t you see what’s happening to society? People are becoming zombies because of computers/ mobile phones... loosing their identity’s and disconnecting from the phish cal world. And that’s is really dangerous and we start to see that in the young generations.
But brands still try to invest in killing senses in the physical world by trying to replicate it in the digital world... we are living a dead tech era.... people are loosing interest.
Yeah, that's real talent and thinking outside the box. Great stuff.
I recall this guy giving a demo previously when he was still a student. Great to see how far he's progressed
I saw this video in 2010 and its been 13 years since. I can see it happening around us. Proud to be an Indian.❤

Haha it beats 2020 😝
U r better than me.. I am watching it in 2020
Lmao they just fooled us by giving fake expectations
N I'm watching this in 2020😶
OMG! 13 years ago! This was way ahead of its time. Why didn't it get more popular in place of iPhone and iPad and Android? Why this went into obscurity? It's not fair.
11years ago but where is the application of these gestures...
Amazing
This guy inspires me as an American. "If you make technology economically available to a number of person then it's meaningful" Pranav Mistry......I wish Apple thought this way:(
I am actually sad rather being happy after looking at where he is right now, I wish I could communicate with him and ask himself. He is a true genius that's for sure, he doesn't stop his thinking at" what if..." he brings that into reality.
For all those inventions that he has done shows the inventor within him being cost-effective is itself a big challenge, but where is he now?
He is now working for someone to invent things for them and those consumer products are those product effecting masses? as he dreamed? Surely this world has consumed him.
In my eyes he can be a creator of his own, he must have earned a very good fortune till now and I wish my words can be passed to him because I wanna ask him this question, what about your dream that you saw before?
Are you there now....? To inform you, he is the CEO of Star Labs, a sub-company of Samsung, and is developing NEON(artificial human), which will be showcased in 3 days..
@@fumax3035 i think he's doing what interests him and whatever he visions as the future now. Brilliance never dies out no matter where you are

He is Vice President of Samsung Research department now. It's all about working for a company now.
Proud to be an Indian . His thinking of connecting digital world to physical world moved me today.
Thank You 👍
Will be attending a lecture with Pranav Mistry next week. I'm really excited :) An absolute genius!
I'm excited for technology to come to this degree. I sure hope I am alive when it becomes mainstream and all the bugs are ironed out. This is really really amazing
I m imotional now to see this vidio such an incredible guy from india and from Bihar ☺️👍
i am proud of him. such a human .he is the man...........you are great pranav sir. great.
I remember watching this video 10-12 years ago, I wondered when this technology will become accessible to us, but it never did till now...may be the big corporations don't want this to happen as it has the potential to wipe out the smartphone and pc market.
.
Well it's the same thing, that edison tried to hide AC current technology to capitalize and saturate the market first with DC, then as the markets are saturated enough he had grabbed significant monetary benefit from it, he would want to introduce AC.
.
Steve jobs at Apple, already knew that the technologies will integrate and their would not be any need of secondary devices like ipod... still he launched ipod and smartly capitalised and earned heck of a money, and then destroyed his own invention by integrating it with iPhone. Smart just Smart. 🤙🏻
Seems Like Iron Man Will Be Getting Competition In The Future. Hello Pranav.. Welcome To The Avengers. :-}
Thanks
@Ragavan Gopal I just have the same name as him :/
This guys is from future, I am looking this in 2020 and still looks so ahead of time, amazingly brilliant
10years..its 2019 and this idea successfully evolved ❤
Proud of you my Indian brother
This guy has made history and will keep doing that why is he so underrated he has done something better than some big scientists
All of this sounds too fascinating and dreamlike, even in 2023, 13 years after this video was uploaded! This man was way ahead of his time.
However, my only concern, when I look at this, is, do we really need so many unnecessary interventions? He says these developments will let us be more 'human' by eliminating the dependence on a secondary device. But, is it not overcomplicating our lives
I am really excited by your work. Our world needs more from you.
Its amazing no words to say...
After this video, you gonna realize its the better world you are living in. Hats off Pranav and Microsoft intervention into 6th sense to the real
world.
I am very impressed. Keep up the excellent work!
Proud of you, pranav , such a technology and that too you made it open source, and you are so humble even after such a achievement, that's great and highly inspiring
Wow!
Exposure to field like Design to Technology and from Art to Psychology blessed him with quite interesting viewpoint to the world...
Just saw future with my eyes. This is incredible! It's 2019 and almost 10 years have passed, this humble Indian just filled in our missing sense
"We human are not interested in computing but we're interested in information."
💯
Incredible work. Thank you.
Woah, that's one of the best Ted talks ever ! God bless u Pranav !
A genius who shares his gift with others, and doesn't reap the financial gain he could so easily get. Great, great man !!
He did reap significant financial gain after joining Samsung and shelving this technology forever. Now we're all spending thousands of dollars on smartphones instead of $2 mouses.

I hope Google glasses credited him if it's due
I just found out about this today when looking up ideas for a presentation, genius then and still is now.
very much proud of u bro "if people like you teach our next generation in classrooms the technology will be also take a bow before them "
real genius dont make money with their invention. PRANAV MISTRY is one of it.
Esse cara é um genio!

Came here to watch this video again after Apple Vision Pro launch. His tech was really amazing and ahead of its time. I still wonder why it didn’t become available to public
I believe its more like he licensed the tech or got acquired by big corporation and is living his life with equity cheques. Big tech companies would now control how much they want to release. And when.
Actually he is the real Iron man in this sense. I am just blown away, i mean literally he was ahead of his time.

This is the mark of a genius. Especially that he is giving all his knowledge free!! Open source?! Are you kidding - he could be making millions with that "IP"! This clearly shows that he has real stuff in him! He is not worried about "losing" what he has built so far. This is the courage. I am sure there is much more where it comes from. And what a great heart he has - he wants to make this for the masses! Hats off to him and all the very best! By far the best TED speech I have heard!
