9:45 Supply Depots "Once you put them down you can't pick them back up." This has been changed. If you set the number of trucks at a depot to zero and then press enter, the supply depot disappears and you can place it elsewhere ON THE NEXT TURN, provided you haven't allocated all those trucks to the remaining depots. Things to consider:
1.) This is a handy way to deny the supplies to the enemy if the depot is in danger of being overrun.
2.) Any units receiving their supplies from the dissolved depot will go one turn without supplies (get the small red exclamation point.)

Apologies the audio quality (especially in the first few minutes which do LAG), this was the recording software which had an issue. I tried to fix it but no luck I will leave it up though to help those looking for a starter guide...seems some people are benefiting from this.

Steps is a board game term. Board games use dots like that all the time and refer to them as steps. It is cool to see this having boardgaming roots. Because they tend to be good and having a PC to increase complexity is a perfect union

~4:30 - the recoup value is the prestige you get back if you move a card from your deck to the bin to make way for new cards. Anything that is not persistent can only be used once.

  • @Rex1987

thanks for trying to make a better guide than what the devs do.
As someone coming off Panzer general 1 and 2 or Panzer Corps which this game is inspired by there are some features that are different and not explained.
The HQ´s for the different units is one of them.
as you saw in the video every HQ has certain skills that units belong to that HQ. Every skill like using artillery (one of the best skills in the game) takes by default 2 command points to use. That means that there is a limit to using these skills. More command points pr HQ means more use of skills in battle. HQ can be upgraded and gain specialisations that lower the Command point cost of certain skills. You can also upgrade the number of command point an HQ has. Both unlocking of specialisations and upgrade the number of command point is often done by completing bonus objectives in time.
another feature that is unique is command cards.
some command cards can only be used one battle. Others can be used the whole campaign and therefore in several missions. The command cards that can be used the whole campaign are marked with "persistent". For instance, in this first mission, you can buy a card that gives you elite reinforcements which boost you unit a fair deal. These elite reinforcements can be placed already in the preparation phase. Every elite reinforcement does cost prestige to place, however. Persistent command cards are clearly the best to have because they can be used several times.
    the transfer of steps.
in the game you have the ability, once unlocked as a skill in the HQ, to "reorg steps". This gives you the option to transfer strength (or "steps" as the game calls it) from one unit to another. I have seen a lot of players misunderstand what this really does. Its best use is when you have a weak unit with very few steps left, then you can simply reorg its remaining steps so another fresh and combat-ready unit will become even stronger with more steps.
also a tip for this mission: in the northern part of the map, there are lots of enemy unit in heavy entrenchment or fortification. And not only are they in solid fortifications; they are also on hills/ mountains. Both give big defensive bonuses. The best thing to counter that as an attacker is simply to go around them. Forcing them to move. Once a unit moves that is in entrenchment, it loses its entrenchment. That's makes them vulnerable to attack from tanks that can swoop around them and cut off their supplies. Alternatively, use the artillery skill and batter down the entrenchment of the enemy. But beware as only the British HQ´s has that skill. The American HQ start without access to it.
But in general - never attack an entrenched unit head-on. Go around it to cut off its supply, or use arty.
I hope this helps aspiring generals and beginners to this great game :-)

  • @jeanyvesfraiche8063
    @jeanyvesfraiche8063 Před 3 lety +3

Thanks Sim, you should use all your HQ command points on each turn, you have 3 HQ, you barely use any, it helps a lot to soften entrenched enemies. That’s what the specialist units are for. Thanks for your time and efforts though. I got the game last night, easily and surprisingly won the first tutorial mission in Louisiana, but I couldn’t nail the second tutorial mission where you need to debark your troops and capture Casablanca in 5 turns. Love the game, deeper than Panzer Corps 2; going to look at Order of Battle, I read in comments that it’s a good compromise between UoC and PC. Cheers

    Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time and explaining things that were still not clear to me - even after the more improved tutorials. I don't know when, but you'll be happy to learn that tooltips actually work in the game now and you can set the delay for the popup in the options menu.
So far I'm enjoying the game, it's quite different from the Order of Battle and Panzer Corps.
Btw: bersaglieri means a member of the riflemen regiment (or sharpshooter)

But, for a first game it's a great video. I think I was waiting for more in depth explanations ;).

@@SimUKReviews This game has so many "hidden" features, in another dev video I saw they click on a unit and use the mouse scroll, I think, to make the unit move even further but without being able to attack. Idk if this feature still exist. Also, I think you actually can deactivate a supply depot by decreasing its trucks to 0. Well, I guess reading this game manual is a must... I'm looking forward to play it tomorrow when it releases!

Yes what you're referring to is the ability to mechanise and is a perk you can buy for HQ and or obtain via a card (which you buy or get for free in planning phase or when you capture an objective).
Few more nice nuggets like that available later in game but I have run out of time sadly.
