Your $2 bill is worth more if it has a fancy serial number... or if it's a star note

- Think your 2 dollar bill is worth more than two dollars? Think again. Any green seal bill from 1976 on only has added value under several conditions, one of which is a unique serial number. The other is if it's a star note. In this bonus numismatics clip from the makers of The Two Dollar Bill documentary, learn which combinations of serial numbers generate interest in collectors, and how much more your $2 bill is worth in today's economy if the serial number contains a star.

Nice video. I give these $2 bills to my grandchildren who cherish them more than "gold". I usually give them 5 at a time and a few of them have kept them since they were much younger! They think they are rich! (and they think I have a printing press for these things). Nice video. Thank you.
Thank you for the view and comment! Very much appreciated. If you haven't watched them already, you'd enjoy many videos on this channel, as well as the feature film the channel was based on: amzn.to/2gpRKum I also have a book on $2 bills you and your grandchildren may like - check the shop at 2dollarbillmovie.com Thanks again.
The guy in 1:37 is Fred, he appeared two times in Pawn Stars just to sell some of his coins, but he got bad deals on both episodes.......
Correct. He appears a lot in the full documentary this channel is based on. He's also in some other clips on this channel.
Yup I was just gonna say
He also pawned his misprinted $30 bill (a $20 front with a $10 back) but he got a bad deal as well. Asked for $25,000 but turned down the max offer of $22,000
@@MrNoUsername I would suspect if he still has the note that its value is substantially higher than $25K
1:38 that’s the guy from pawn stars who had an error bill with $20 on front and $10 on the back.
I got a few two dollar bills that I've had since i was a kid an some my pawpaw an granny had before i was born
GREAT video I would like to say some of the old red seal notes have some of these qualities.!!! They are worth more.!!!
Absolutely correct. Most people just have the green seal bills though, so we left this video at that. Thanks for the comment and compliment
Very nice bank note
Super like 👍👍👍
Very cool, I didnt know about this
Awesome!
I have an uncut sheet of 32 notes from the 1976 series. Any Idea the value it has the original US mint frame.
I don't know the value, but looking up similar items on eBay and seeing what they went for is always a good place to start. The value really is what someone else is willing to pay for it.
I have a 1976 $2 bill sealed in plastic keeper. So its never been circulated or touched. Remember my mom buying it around bicentennial somewhere (like Franklin Mint or such). Hazard a guess what it might be worth ballpark?
Unfortunately, maybe only $2. If it is in pristine condition, and the bill is perfectly centered with even margins all around, you could have one that would grade a 70, which would make it more valuable. Odds are slim though. I make videos on the $2 bill... I can't assess value except by utilizing the knowledge I've picked up. Your best bet is to contact PCGS Currency. They'll grade it, give you a better holder for it, and be able to tell you its value.
Very nice channel love de bills $2 🥰🥰
I got a 000 star note sadly circulated possibly score 23/35 probably my first lowest $2 of a 2003A series but i’ll just keep it for luck
What's up
Thanks for this video! I have two sequential 1976 $2 bills, uncirculated, not star, centered right and left, but with more margin on top than bottom. ONE of the serial numbers is not straight (if you put a straight edge under it, some numbers are slightly higher or lower than the others. It's only the serial number on the right side above the seal, which has its points a tiny bit above the "TWO" under it. Are these bills worth more, especially the one with the slightly wonky serial number?
You're welcome for the video! First off, your sequential bills mean nothing - I can go the bank and buy a strap of 100 sequential bills tomorrow. That said, many people think sequential serial numbers on twos mean something (just check eBay), so if you were hot on selling yours for more than face value, you might make an extra buck by listing two sequential ones on eBay. As for the wonky serial #, I just examined a $2 bill I have on my desk. It's 15917685. The 15 at the start is a bit higher than the rest. And on the rest of my stack (which not coincidentally, are all sequential because I got these from a bank strap), the 15s are also all higher. On a 1995 bill I pulled out, the first two digits are... higher than the others. And I dug out a 1976 I have and, yes, the first two numbers are higher. I didn't think you had anything of value, and looking at my own bills, I'm almost positive of it. If there was something really weird about the numbers, it could be an error note. But it appears that the serial numbers just naturally print a little wonky. But, take it to a local coin & currency dealer if you really want a thorough examination. You may have a pristine bill, which in and of itself makes the bill more valuable.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary Thanks, yeah, the wonky serial number didn't happen on the left side of the bill, or its sequential mate. I actually got these from a bank to commemorate the birth of my niece and plan on leaving them to her along with some family stuff. Just got them for fun. They've been carefully pressed into a book since 1976. Was just curious if they were worth something now. Thanks for responding. 🙂
Is there a way to sell these safely or trade in at a bank? What is your recommendation? I have 4 from 1979, with a star
There are no $2 bills from 1979. It would have 1976 on it, or 1995 is the closest year to that. Either way, $2 bills are regular currency, like the $10 and the $5 and the $1. People think they're different for reasons explained in other videos on this channel. So, walk into your bank and trade them for other bills. That said, if it has a star, there's a chance someone would pay a little bit more for it. List it on eBay. If it sells, collect your money and ship it off. That's a pretty safe trade.
Someone just gave me 2 bills with C07771140A and C07771143A only 2013 series but thought it was pretty cool to have 777 in there 😅
Hell yeah 777 is good luck. Keep those!

I believe that the bearded dealer at the end of the video is Fred Weinberg, a rare currency dealer in California.
I have a silver certificate 2 dollar bill and it starts with the * in the serial number instead of ending with the *
A star on a Silver Certificate may be worth more, although sometimes a star on older bills was part of the serial number. I'd have to see it, but either way, contact PCGS Currency to assess its value.
My L2 2 dollar bill has a star, what should I do with it?
Take it to a coin/currency dealer. If it's in good shape, you can make a few bucks for it. Or you could try eBay. it's worth more than $2 to somebody, so maximize it for what you can.
I have two mint condition $2 dollar bills, series 2013 star notes from the same sheet.
1:37 this guy was on pawn stars before
That is correct. He is a nationwide expert on currency and printed errors.
1:37 aye! It’s the Fred guy from pawn stars!
Yes it is.
HELLO, I like looking about the two dollar bills over and over. Say if I know someone that have a, all gold 2 dollar bill from front to back. Then the serial number is all 9s. And its a 1976.
What do you mean by all gold? $2 bills don't have any gold on them.
I have 7 ,2☆ all in serial code order. How much are they
a lot of money
I know your interested in two dollar bill but would you want them to be as common as 1s then they would not be special anymore
... not sure who you're talking to...
i have one from 1953
Yeah i got one from 1952 sexy. Jeannie we should get togeither an compare with each other
Dewayne Keith Searcy Jr. wow guy really 😂
I found a 2013 L 44223352A two dollar bill. Is this worth hanging on to? It's also in great shape.
Save for three consecutive repeated numbers, no. And even that isn't enough to make anyone interested, from my experiences. Go spend it.
1:36 hasn’t they guy been on Pawn Stars?
Yes
I got a red star note 1990, worth any?
It's worth more than $2, but it's impossible for me to tell how much more without knowing year, condition, serial number, series, etc. Plus I'm not a currency evaluator - I make videos. Try contacting a local coin & currency dealer.
I have a star note
We are the only country that use star notes.
Chris Garner I’m confused of why you would state this? I mean other counties use different currencies and have different rules.
Australia does as well. They indicate it has been replaced
I have a set of notes that's are L 56600720 and I have all the notes from that ending in zero to ending in 9 are these worth anything together
If they are in great condition, you might be able to get a markup by selling them on eBay, but otherwise, they are no more special than any other consecutive bills - you can get a new strap at the bank and have 100 consecutive serial numbers. Here's out video on selling $2s on eBay - you can see what others got for something like what you have: czcams.com/video/Nz85Q-8UNrQ/video.html
Thanks you sir, I'm thinking to maybe get 21-22$ for 10 bills!
ANY denomination bill is worth more if it has a "fancy" or unusual serial number.
True, but because there are less $2s in circulation, their value tends to be higher.
How much can you get for a two Dollar Red Note
For a 1928 Red Note how much can you sell it for
It depends on condition, year, serial number, etc. Try eBay and look for similar bills. You can get whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary Thanks coins collection friends God bless you all
1:08 Look at that monetary inflation go! Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The invisible tax.
Quick who is an the back 2 dollar bill ?
A lot of dead people
Can't deny that.
I have a 2 dollar bill with a serial number F00088555A is that worth anything?
Probably not. Maybe there's a collector who'd like the run of consecutive duplicate numbers, but good luck finding him.
what about one with 122334
Possibly. It depends on the collector. In and of itself it's not really worth that much, if anything.
How much would a collector pay for the privilege of owning a $2 note that is owned by me?
Probably $1.87
White Mail Privilege 😂
Hap py newyaerwewish familytheyour.happy everything it.as.expectedHello
I have a 2$ serial number F99229900A is that a good serial numbers
Nothing special about it except for it being a high number, which could me a bit more unique considering they don't often do print runs for $2s that go up that high. If it's in great condition, ask a local coin/currency dealer, else you can try to get more than face value for it on eBay, where collectors are lurking.
Tony Darden I believe the US Mint starts alphabetically in the first letter where you have ‘F’ and usually the highest this letter gets is ‘L’ if it’s a high star year. So your bill would rank in the middle.
Who's the lady in the black dress

$2
i have a 2 dollar bill with a star note and the serial number is 00832383 and idk if that's worth something ot not
The star note makes it worth a little more than $2, depending on the condition. The serial number is not anything unique and adds no value.
Looked up this video now because I just got ×11 2 dollar bills, and one of them I noticed had a star on it (also a 1976). Unfortunately its seen better days and has been folded a few times.
Yeah, probably not worth much, if anything. Best to just turn around and spend it.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary yeah its not in too good or bad shape
Ive gotten 11 $2 bills in this past week due to the covid-19 and people spending their panic money, is there amything I should look out for on these bills? I have another 1976, and then the rest are mid to early 2000's and two mint 2013s. Im farily certain theyre all common and face value.

Most likely no

ummmm yes the us mint dose make and is in the business to make collector items lol haha
I have a 2 dollar bill. The serial number is A 05757576 L. Is that a good serial number?
Close! A "radar" serial number reads the same forward and backward. Yours has a few 57s, but it's not a radar. The uniqueness of having three 57s could make it valuable to some collectors though. You can try it on eBay and see if you can catch someone interested. But generally, there's not too much special about it.

Generally, star notes have more value. The fancy serial numbers definitely do.
How bout ser.# 00050004A is that fancy or what?
Yes, pretty fancy. Hope it's in good shape. Contact PCGS Currency for an evaluation
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary its got a slight crease down center other than that its like brand new...thank you for your reply ...
I have 00099998
That's pretty good. Call a local currency dealer and see if it has any more value. But collectors on eBay may pay more for something like that.
I have a $@ red seal 1953 mint condition, A49481539A worth anything but $2?
The serial number doesn't look to add anything, but a mint 1953 definitely has some added value... probably up to $20 or even more if it were professionally graded and scored a 63 or higher. Take it to a local coin & currency dealer for a true evaluation; I just make videos on the $2 bill but know some general values because of the stuff I've done.
I wonder how much the serial number 04131743 is.(thomas jefferson's birthday 04/12/1743)
