Welcome to my video on Plahero Daimugen [ダイムゲン] from Gosei Sentai Dairanger [五星戦隊ダイレンジャー]!
If you caught my big 11-year anniversary video last time there is a good chance you saw this guy. I never really considered getting a Daijinryuu because he is a massive guy...which didn't quite translate well to the toy version. I remembered that I used to own this small Daimugen in the past and kinda connected the dots. Hey, it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot closer to scale. Why don't we take a closer look...
Plahero Daimugen comes with a miniature Ryuseioh and Won Tiger. I have owned quite a bit of Yutaka-made toys in the past, but I've never featured one here on the channel. Yutaka was a Bandai subsidiary that made budget toys with few moving parts. If you look back to the mid-90s when Power Rangers took over the USA, these toys ended up being imported and sold in smaller comic book stores to fill the gap since Power Rangers toys were at times scarce due to popularity. Given that this is a low, low, low budget release, almost all of the detail is limited to a few scant decals. Is it really, though? I tried my best to take the most detailed photos I could. While Ryuseioh and Won Tiger are green blocks of plastic (I'm willing to bet that all seven pieces of this set was broken from the same sprue) Daimugen has a ton of detail in it's mold. I'm really not one to customize toys, but this guy would make a perfect candidate for a full detailing--more than any of the other Yutaka toys I've owned.
It's easy to punch down on cheap toys like this, but I really enjoy this set. It's really Bandai who screwed up by not including something like this with Daijinryuu to accurately portray how big the guy is. If you have a DX Daijinryuu or DX Serpentera, I recommend tracking this little Daimugen set down. Yutaka stuff has become a little uncommon, but a little patience will get you an unused Daimugen set.
