- A paper mache pulp tutorial.
I demonstrate my simple recipe to make your own batch of paper pulp. No boiling, no machines (okay, except my paper shredder), no special tools. Just a great, affordable alternative to clay or slime that hardens to shapes you can keep.
Please subscribe- ideas for things to make with pulp are coming any day now!

WoW thank you so much
It’s the perfect process 🖤
So much more intuitive then other techniques
Thanks for watching!
I’m starting my first project. I have a lot of paper I’ve been lugging around for 20 years, because I’m insane. Just tearing it up has been emotional. Thank you for doing such a great job of sharing :)
Thank you! I'm excited to have you on this journey♡
This was super helpful and informative. Thanks, Renée!
If I may suggest a tool, but I use a mixing paddle on a drill and mix the ever-lovin-You know what- out of it. Also I add exterior paint, as it helps make it water prrof and stronger. Also the shiney/glossy newsprints are good for making it stronger too, there is a glue in the shiney stuff. another option is brown bags ripped up. soak for awhile and have fun, again, this paper is stronger . I have mixed all sorts of things with my experiments, and I do me ALL sorts of stuff. marble dust, sand,, plaster, cement, etc.etc.
Awesome!
A stick blender works wonders for refining your pulp and takes a lot of the 'elbow greasing' (manual work) out!!
This was so helpful, and so clear, thank you!!
Thank you- I'm glad!
I’ll try this method, I injured my hands by doing the squeeze method last fall. Love your teaching style.❤
Thank you! Go easy on your hands. You can still employ a blender with my recipe if need be
Wow ... awesome ❤
Thank you!
I've watched both of your videos. VERY HELPFUL.
Like your humor. Makes life more fun!!!! I've been working with air dry -- I'm a beginner. Can use all the help. 😊 thanks. Good luck. You'll do well.
Thanks so much- I have fun making them! I love air dry clay. There are SO many possibilities!
Brilliant vid!🧡 I'm newly obsessed with paper maché & just found you today on Instagram. Strip method only so far but been watching vids on pulp & wondering why they squeeze out the water instead of adding more paper! Thank-you for answering that question!😊 I've learned so much from this - and you're so funny too!😁
Thanks! You know, in early days, I was squeezing the water too. It just hit me one day- add more paper and glue instead. Happy creating!
@createdbyrenee so, after you add last batch of paper after couple of days, you don't wait it to soften again, right?
No, not really necessary to wait!
thank you soo soo much!
This is great
Thank you!
I watched another person use an immersion blender. I’m gonna try that
Someone suggested that on another video- I plan to try it too!
Great video. Do you need to use a paper shredder or can you just tear the paper by hand?
Thanks! You can absolutely tear it by hand. I tore all mine by hand years ago. A paper shredder is just a shortcut!
Let's say I make a few pounds of this, how long can you store this for? and how would you suggest it be stored? Is it better to make the pulp and only add the glue when I'm ready to use it?
I really try to use it within a week of making it. I store it right in my orange bucket in the video with the lid on it. I recommend adding the glue as you're kneading it. It makes it easier to work it into the clay-like consistency. Adding the glue later won't help it store longer. The paper itself is what will start to sour if left too long. And once it sours, it's hard to get rid of the smell, even after it has dried. Good luck!
Gotcha, thanks👍🏾
When adding paper and glue while kneeding the paper product has the paper soaked or just dry paper?
I always start with wet paper. It's always best if it soaks before working with it. The longer it soaks, the softer and easier the paper will be to knead. It's not impossible to immediately start kneading after mixing paper and water. I've had to do it for rush projects. It's just more strenuous when the paper hasn't soaked.
It might sound dumb but does it work with UHU stick glue ? If yes do I put it directly with the paper ?
Stick glues would likely not work in pulp. They are almost a solid that is not meant to break down. White glue is a liquid that can be mixed throughout the paper fibers to bond them together like clay. I only use white glue because it can easily be mixed in and dries strong.
Hello Renée!!!
What product do you put at the end to waterproof the piece? Thank you! 🤗 Cheers from Argentina
These create a moisture resistant, but not waterproof finish:
