Sculpting a Figure Using a Salvaged Bottle
Join me for another creative [mis]adventure as I demonstrate how I sculpt a form from a plastic bottle. With a little imagination, you too could create something new from a salvaged shape! There are tips and info throughout the video, plus more info below.

A stick blender works wonders for refining your pulp and takes a lot of the 'elbow greasing' (manual work) out!!

🪣Learn something every time! I've tried a bit of paper pulp on a few masks but have not been happy with it. But now I see how much you smooth with glue after.. that's the step I was missing. Excited to see if I can make it work!
Smoothing through out the drying process definitely makes a difference
@@createdbyrenee I usually put a wet project under a heat lamp overnight so I'll have to modify that schedule a bit. ha ha Thanks for the tip!
If I make this , would I be acctually be able to use it and clean it ?
If you sealed a piece like this with a product like Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe (follow the directions carefully), you could totally use and wipe this clean. Probably not for direct food use, and I wouldn't submerge it, even though they call it dishwasher safe, lol. It's in my Amazon list in my channel links. I have rinsed a piece off under running water, lol.
Can I make pulp without glue?
Pulp needs a binding solution to hold it together. So you can opt not to use glue, but you would need to use something else in its place. I've used wallpaper paste with good results, and flour is another option. I prefer white glue because it is easy and durable.

What is pulp like after drying ? Does it turn hard like clay?
The pulp that I make using the recipe on my channel dries very hard and lightweight.

Cans will snap under certain weight. Especially with the hole punched through compromising them. Doesn’t seem practical

Why make fake stones when there are rocks lying around outside?? Paper mache stones are hard, lightweight, and go where real stones cannot. They can be used to make jewelry, wall art, large sculptures, and more without the weight of real stones. Give this a try!
Omg beautiful work , im an artist ive been into do paper crafts ive been obsessed with paper beads lately , i would love to try a vase ....if i wanted to use a paper machee vase for a plant i would have to pre drill the holes befor layering ? Or after ? 🤔
Thank you! When I've made planters for plants in soil, I made the holes in the plastic, then added the paper pulp and reinforced the holes. For these vases, no holes because they're just meant to hold water and flowers. Hope that helps!

I absolutely LOVE your channel!! I wasn't taught the correct method of working with Paper Mache in elementary school, so I really hated it as a medium. Thanks to your channel, I'm obsessed with it now! Paper Mache is amazingly versatile.! I've made everything from fake donuts, cookies and cakes to my current project making a tall organic floor lamp! Plus recycling/ upcycling/Re-use of common household waste is so satisfying.Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!

Thanks Scott! Thankfully the arm still works, lol. I think silicone molds would be cool for pm because I imagine they'd be easier to remove
