  • Welcome to our fitting and review of the Goodyear Connector Ultimate Tubeless Tyre.
This episode continues the series to help find the best gravel tyres out there right now. Is this tyre really deserved of being names 'Ultimate'? What do you think? What are your experiences? Please leave a comment to let me know what you think of these tyres.
Just how awesome were these when out riding? Did they keep up with the demands of riding the terrain I threw at them?
This is an episode that is sure to surprise people as Goodyear may have just produced a tyre they should be well and truly proud of.

Just discovered this review and your channel, found this super useful particularly because you ride almost exactly the same mixed conditions and surfaces that I find locally here in north Dorset. Would love to see more similar reviews

Cool, glad it helps. These are great tyres and have been well worth the outlay. It's not easy to find tons of 'gravel' conditions here in Dorset and these are great tyres for all conditions. Make sure to like the vid and subscribe if you enjoy. More reviews in the future! Take care and happy cycling 🙂👍.

Hi Tim, thanks for sharing this review. Since I do most of my gravel riding off-road on sandy forest trails, I was not satisfied with especially the cornering capabilities of the GravelKing SKs. Just too little profiled and nobby on the sides. So I switched to the fairly new Schwalbe G-One R tires and must say I'm impressed by them. Not the lightest nor the cheapest but great for all round off-road (gravel, sand, gras). The are not really designed for mud so here you should't expect any miracles.

I agree with regards to the gravel kings. They are very good at actual gravel specific stuff, but on a ride where terrain varies a lot they seem to suffer. These Goodyear tyres are good at almost every surface. Road is where there may be a slight problem if running lower pressures, I tested them with higher pressure and they ran much better on the tarmac - but I am not one for correcting pressures throughout a ride. I have seen the Schwalbe G-One R tyres and maybe they will be next for review. As always, take care and happy cycling 🙂👍

I have a pair ready to go on the exploro racemax, tried them with tubes in Spain on the Diverge and loved them - they behaved very well on tarmac for me, even managed a PR over a fast road bike. looking forward to using them more now thx

Hi Christian, thanks for commenting. I can on only agree that these are a real gem of a tyre, however some have said they didn't get on with them. They may not suit all but I think they are great. Hope they continue to serve you well. Take care and happy cycling!

Hello Christian, did you mount them on 700mm wheels? 35mm?

Hi, Can you please recommend? I'm searching for a fast rolling gravel tire max. around 36mm as I'm limited in space. Recently I've seen so many tires, but I guess the most interesting ones are Goodyear Connector and Conti Terra Speed. I will ride mainly light gravel and just don't want to slip around heavily ;)

If I was you I would take a look at Panaracer gravel kings. Check out my review of these tyres on this channel - they are great especially on the surfaces that you seem to ride upon. They are available in the size that you want if the rim size is 700c, and I have had only positive experiences with them except for in muddy conditions - however that does not seem to be what you need them for so you should be ok. Hope that helps? Take care and happy cycling! 🙂👍

Waiting on my 1st gravel bike, a Trek ALR 5. Been looking at the Specialised Pathfinders, either the basic or the pros…I can’t tell the difference. Reason? Cos I’m doing more road right now to bring up my fitness level
Do u have any opinions on the Pathfinders?

Thanks for the comment and question. While I have no experience with the Specialized Pathfinder tyre, however I would say that I have now read a couple of reviews that seem to agree with one another. Basically they are a tyre that needs a little more pressure in them to perform as intended. The central strip is reported to perform well on road when pumped up a little harder. Generally a good tyre on hard packed gravel as well. Where they may not be quite as good is in muddy conditions - but that matters only if you are going to go often through muddy areas like I end up having to. Also it's reported that they are a little slippy on the climbs aswell. Cornering is supposed to be quite good due to the grips at the edge. So it's an interest in choice but for me I need a little more performance in the mud, and I am generally less concerned about the performance on the road. I hope that helps? I have also done a review on Panaracer Gravelking SK tyres that may be of interest if you want to consider another choice of tyre. Take care and happy cycling 🙂👍

Why not put sealant through the valve after the tyre is seated? You are getting sealant everywhere!

Hi, thanks for the comment. I must admit that I have not had all that much issue installing tyres and sealant this way, probably a messy example. Since then I have had some really really tough to fit tyres and they have somewhat perfected the technique. However, putting in sealant through the valve is always going to be a cleaner method. Take care and happy cycling 🙂👍

@@timeforbikes hi, using a Giant Control Tank. Have set up countless tyres from road to plus sized MTB - still running tubes on my gravel bike…

    • @timeforbikes

Real shame you're still having issues. I just searched up the giant control tank and found your video. Good work. It seems like you know what you're doing when getting tyres on. I can only assume that these tyres are not a good match with the rims you have or that the tyres are faulty. Mine fit beautifully on my hunt 650 rim setup. Is there anyway you can help them seat by physically pulling the tyre bead onto the rim most of the way around before using the giant control tank? Just a thought as I used to try and do this early on when using a standard track pump. Annoyingly it should not be this hard.
