    Love the mix of ride and chat, and your videos are always just the right length. It makes your channel uniquely different from the likes of GCN, so don’t change it. Metallic orange for the bike.

    Chatting and bikes works for me!
    Tyres are fairly personal, particularly with Gravel which can be anything from MTBING in all but name, to smooth park trails! I found both GravelKings SK and X-ones just too lightweight and ripped out the sidewalls, I’ve switched to Smart Sams which seams to be lasting over last year or so.
    Like your new tyres have a running strip like the cheap MTB tyres of old, though theses are far better seem as fast, with better grip as they have bigger knobs, and I like stuff more to the MTB end of things.

    looked like a great ride , glad the new tyres are working out - always fun to ride through the bits with the stinging nettles - tends to lead to the nicer trails!

    Dave, I'm excited for you and your new relationship with Goodyear. They are a top notch company, no doubt about it. When it comes to tires, I don't doubt for a minute that they have some of the best compounds available in the industry. Those that ride a lot know that good tires are worth a premium because of their longevity. Some tires have decent performance, but just don't last very long. I'll be interested in your thoughts on the Goodyear's durability. By the looks of things, the tires in this video are really good for a variety of surfaces.

Did a 56 mile mountain bike ride today, 2000ft of climb, but had to push it up a one mile long 13% hill, needed another 15 cogs at least to haul it up that! Don't know how you make it up a 20%

    If you are that desperate for gravel, come to Poland, you will soon get sick of it!! I did a 80 km ride today, gravel of all different grades, up and down, and 1 forest section of 16 km of nothing but gravel, with 1000s of pot holes, but for me its not problem cause I'm on an mtb with 72 cm wide bars! I just can't get my head around riding on such a dodgy sketchy surface with narrow drop bars, it just seems so dangerous, or maybe its time I tried!? PS lovin the films!

    Hi, Can you please recommend? I'm searching for a fast rolling gravel tire max. around 36mm as I'm limited in space. Recently I've seen so many tires, but I guess the most interesting ones are Goodyear Connector and Conti Terra Speed. I will ride mainly light gravel and just don't want to slip around heavily ;)

    • @DaveNoakes
      @DaveNoakes  Před 2 lety

      Hmmm the goodyear connectors come in 35mm and they are perfect for light gravel. I’ve ridden all sorts on my 40 and 50mm. The 35 should be good for light gravel and road miles.

    ive tried a few tyres recently as i find the limiting factor on my gravel bike is its ability to corner rather than its lack of suspension (i like to ride MTB trails and i want the fastest time of the day!). not sure if its a geometry issue with the bike or if im asking too much of 47-50mm tyres, or its just par for the gravel bike course, probably a bit of everything. i just seem to keep washing out which i never do on the MTB. maybe i need to demo a few other gravel bikes to see if there is anything else that might perform a bit better.

    • @gaza4543
      @gaza4543 Před 4 lety +1

      The problem with gravel is, it means something different to everybody one mans rock garden is another mans gravel. Its why i hate the term gravel. All road is what they are. You need a proper supple CX tyre if your using 700c and a narrow MTB tyre if your 650b (supple is the keyword). Back in the day we where all running 1.95-2inch tyres they won't be the limiting factor. Many "Gravel" tyres are overbuilt and heavy making them slow and less compliant and more like touring tyers, Like the good year above (sorry Dave it just wouldn't be my first choice). The only game in town I've found TBH is Rene Herse and if you want knobbly grip the Steilacoom and Juniper ridge specifically, Though if your riding baby head/ pee gravel/soft over hard it won't matter what tyer you have its not going to grip, stones rolling on stones. The same with sand. So you might as well use a fat slick like the switchback hill has more grip than it has a right to, especially if you dial in the pressures you just have to get used to its floaty feeling trust me it won't give, ride flats and stick a foot out riding round corners to feel more comfortable.
      Tread makes a difference in the wet not really the dry slicks and knobbly's act much the same in the dry. Look at Ted king he won the dirty Kansa on slicks!
