- today i drove a 700 HP fully loaded electric semi.. it took me by surprise to say the least

The real question is how far can you haul an 80k load? And how long would it take to charge the battery before you get back on the road?

The million watt chargers are making the scene now aka mega chargers. Travel stops along the I80, I40, and the I10 are buying up vast portions of land to install pull thru mega chargers. Fast charging.
Roughly 340-350 miles probably. The rated range is 330 miles at 82K, highway speed. Of course, you’re not going to run the truck to 0 miles, so useful range is less than that. Rated charge time is 80% in 90 minutes @350kW. The truck isn’t meant for medium to long haul, so those buying this truck would be charging it overnight rather than charging it to get it back on the road right after

Yeah, cool HP numbers... let's talk about the range when towing a heavy trailer and the charge time to do it again.
Everyone knows about the range issue, nobody is saying these will replace long haul OTR trucks any time soon. These totally do have a use case for the more local short haul deliveries, and the fuel savings on those routes is definitely something companies will be interested in. People laughed about the car replacing the horse, progress is progress.

Wonder what the charge time is on these, can't imagine the amps required for these. CA power plants will be struggling big time.
@@theaterthug7 Shoot. The power plants here in Cali are already struggling. Most people i know that have an electric car around here either have another vehicle (in case of blackouts), or they have their own power-source and arent plugged into the public electrical grid (power-generators and/or solar-panels)
Better yet, an international flight over the ocean in an electric powered plane. 😳😆

The only question I would have is: Where do I charge, and how long before I have 80-100%. If it takes longer than 10 hours to charge, it is of no use. Plus, there would not be chargers at every customer, so you would just sit idle. The other thing we are all still faced with is the creation of electricity and or hydrogen (the fan you heard is the generator cooling down the system). We still use predominantly fossil fuel to power the plants. Also interesting is the regenerative breaking and hauling through the mountains, how would you use an engine brake coming down big mountains? Cooking your brakes?
