Case 580 Backhoe vs. a Maple Tree: Is this even fair?

- I use the Case 580K Backhoe to dig out a maple tree. It produced a really big stump that I hauled out to the fire and burned. This backhoe was a rough old machine when I first bought it, but it is a workhorse!

I am saving up for an older model case backhoe. These machines are BEAUTIFUL.
I just had a neighbor who has a 580 pull nine stumps for me. I could occasionally feel the ground under my feet shake a little as the roots gave way. He filled his dump truck with stumps twice after the digging was done. That machine is a beast.
Yes, the 580 always seems to impress me! It's not as fast as an excavtor, but it also has a 1 yard bucket on the front! :)
There is "NOTHING" Harbour Freight about that machine, would love to find an open cab model like that. Thanks for sharing, what an iconic machine
Haha, no there isn't! I love the ol' 580K. There are a decent number of them floating around in used markets. Sadly, I'm having an issue with mine. If you are a subscriber, you will see an update video on it in a couple days!
You make an excellent CASE for that tractor! Makes me wish I'd have purchased an old, used Case rather than a new compact tractor with backhoe attachment. For that reason and several others.
ha good one! What size tractor/backhoe do you have? I was always curious how well the 485a from JD performed.
I loved seeing you tackle that tree.
Congratulations on 2K.
Wow. I just bought one, I hope I can keep it running. Looks like a hard working machine
You will absolutely love it! It's still a small machine in the grand scheme, but it's such a workhorse! Have fun!
Hearing that digger brought back memories of childhood. I used to watch diggers on building sites, and the smell of diesel fumes in the air.
Those days have long passed, but feel like only yesterday
@@IndyFarmLife sounds good to me👍👍
I know the John Deere loader is stout but I bet that Case loader is 2 1/2 times as strong.
Nice backhoe I have one like that one
Big root ball. I felled 5 around that size with a dozer 'cause that's all I had at the time.
I finally started working on my 580 and unfortunately it’s got a crack down the length of the block on the coolant side. The shit people don’t tell you when they sell it
Can you easily add a thumb to that bucket?
Nice work! Love that machine. Could you get a thumb for it?
Probably a stationary one. I don't have the hydraulics for a movable thumb.
I really need to find some equip at a good deal for my property!
@@IndyFarmLife what type of aeration system are you planning? I am digging my pond now (1 acre) and probably going with windmill system due to no power nearby.
Congratulations on the video.
I'm from Brazil and I subscribed to your channel.

are you going to cut it into firewood or
@@IndyFarmLife before the ground gets frozen you should put those on the skid makes it alot easier for you it even saves your back to
@@IndyFarmLife if you have a pry bar use it and chip the ice all around it then you can put them on skids thats what i do here in canada then in the summer i split them
What year is this 580?
1987
@@IndyFarmLife thanks for the reply I'm looking at a 81 any advice or warnings ⚠️
I'm not sure if the model I have stretches back to '81 or not. Honestly this thing has been awesome for me though. Before I got it, it had sat in the woods for 10 years untouched. Brought it back to life with not a terrible amount of effort. It still needs some work, but it hasn't let me down yet. It makes my John Deere 4052R seem like a kids toy.
Nice yeah it's on marketplace title reads1981 580c but maybe they just don't know the exact year anyhow thanks for the timely response I'll subscribe and stay tuned thanks
You bet! Circle back and let me know how it all goes! Curious to hear. I'm excited to get mine out again this spring.
Should have cut those trees down before digging them up that's the most dangerous way of doing it
How so? If they aren't dead, the chance of the tops falling out is minimal. Digging a stump of a cut tree is much more taxing on the backhoe than letting the leverage of the tree uproot itself.
@@IndyFarmLife the stump can roll over and pin u or kill u I've seen it happen not trying to sound rude or like a smart ass I've just seen people be bad hurt doing that just be safe out there
Thanks for the concern and sharing! Something else to be aware of. Can't say I have ever seen that happen. I'll have to look around! Appreciate it!
