    Hi Jennifer! Thanks a ton for this all-round grammar lesson! Examples: 1) Getting used to driving on the left took him a long time. 2) Now, after a year, he is used to driving on the left. 3) The community is thriving. 4) The crowd of people is demonstrating. 5) A band of musicians is playing brilliantly. 6) Anybody is able to do it. It's easy-peasy. 7) The class of students is studying right now. Interestingly: 8) The police ARE investigating the crime. 9) The police officer IS monitoring the traffic. 10) I can dance. 11) I'm not able to dance today as I'm busy.
    12) I prefer Indian, Czech, and Chinese cuisine rather than Mexican cuisine. 13) Instead of eating Mexican food, I prefer Indian, Czech, and Chinese food. 14) He had pizza instead of salad. 15) Do you want salad on the side? No, I want french fries instead, please. 16) If you have a headache, you should take painkillers. 17) I must go to work tomorrow. 18) I have to buy some groceries next weekend. 19) He has absolutely no money. He is as poor as Job's turkey. 20) I have no secret of success, but hard work. 21) He doesn't have a cottage. He lives in the city. I got all correct on the quiz! Frankly, some questions were tricky, though.

    Hi Jennifer, I've come across 'rather than+ root verb' a few times both in speaking and writing;
    for example: "Rather than give up, we need to keep going."...so do we view 'than' as a preposition here, thus use a gerund 'giving' like you explained in the lesson, or is that sentence accepted as gramatically correct? - a bit confused English learner.
