For anyone else wondering "why take off the tire instead of leaving the tailgate down and driving out?" You can see at 12:17 how the tire swivels to the side to open the tailgate, it's not atttatched to the tailgate itself. It wouldn't change the issue of an upright tire to leave the tailgate open.

Whatever size that nut is, you should try to make sure you get that socket size because it’s going to be the same size to your car tires and in case of flat you need to be able to change it.

My grandmother was a horticulturist and had a great trick for seeds. She would wet a paper towel sprinkle seeds onto the paper towel, roll it up and placed it in a ziplock bag and put in a dark, dry cabinet. Leave it there for one week (no peaking) and the seeds had germinated and she immediately planted them.
I recommend a mulch pad below your hammock. Make it a feature of your landscape. But mostly it makes it easier to mow without having to move the awkward frame.

I'd like to tell you. They sell kits just for toppers that make it so much easier to move up-and-down in your garage. It's a pully system rather than the ratchet. And it's as simple as backing your car in and backing your car in pulling back out. So look around. There are kits to put up in your garage to remove your hard topper and put your hard topper back on with just a pully system. Good luck. The garden is looking beautiful 22:19
The trees should do okay next to the dying one. In fact the mycelium network underneath the dying tree should help inoculate the new ones and foster root development. It does depend on how shaded the new trees will get, though. I don’t think you said what kind they are but I’m assuming they’re not understory trees? Also, good on you for not just cutting down the big tree, dying trees provide a ton of food and habitat/cover for other animals. If you ever have to cut it down, consider cutting it to snag height (leaving 8-20 feet of trunk) instead of a stump. That way it’ll still be an active part of the ecosystem as it decays. Also also, if you put weed fabric down, be prepared to pull it back up. That stuff is great until it gets soil on it (it will) and something punches a hole in it (also inevitable). Then you end up with a weed mat that you can’t plant anything in. Now I gotta go do outside chores.

I think having tall grass could look mystical and closer to nature like with the old cabins. You could experiment and see. But tall grass can attract snakes. They tend to get super pissed off if you accidentally step on them. Hard to catch them if they found their way inside the house. I think you should keep a reptile grabber. It is a 5 feet long stick with spring handles to catch reptiles without harming them. Since you are alone and far from an ER, keeping some anti-venom and wearing shoes for outside may be a good idea too.

You should get one of those 4-pronged lug wrenches. Each end has a different size socket, and the X shape allows you to pull up on one side while pushing down on the other, maximizing leverage to loosen (or tighten) the lug nuts.
I was feeling so anxious all day today, and I just decided to sit and watch your video, and magically all my anxiety has dissipated. This may sound crazy, but that Bronco from the 60s is my dream vehicle! No AI, just nuts n bolts! I have a Jeep Wrangler that I love, but since I was little I wanted a 1965-68 Bronco. They're crazy expensive if in great condition, so it'd be an even trade, but no dealerships carry them around here. Although you could have left the tailgate open and driven out with the wheel on, I'm glad you had a chance to break the wheel loose. If you ever need it on the road you'll want it removable without power tools! 👌

You need to do a project in the garage operation clean up the garage , make shelves to put stuff away on shelves in order. So that you can find it at a later date make enough room to back Bronco truck in there and then when you want to remove the top use wood and ratchet straps and hang the top from the ceiling that's what alot of people do when they remove canopy's off of there trucks out of sight out of mind and you can still use the garage until your ready to put your top back on for another season .
I totally agree with having the English ivy in pots. I planted some in my yard years ago and it has taken over! I am glad everyone told you to keep it in pots.

For killing off that patch of grass in your garden with the cardboard....In the fall, try again, but this time lay the cardboard down and then about 4 inches of compost/dirt and then some mulch of some sort. In the spring you will just need to move the mulch to the side where you want to plant. Also, with as much land as you have you could use the grass clippings from mowing in your garden as mulch to keep the weeds at bay.

Hello ! About the dead tree, you did right. Dead trees continue to sustain their brothers and sisters through the roots, so planting Elmer next to an elder tree will actually help him grow, even if he’s a dying 🙏🏼
If you cover the cardboard with a foot or more of compost you can plant directly in the new dirt. The cardboard will keep the weeds suppressed in the beginning and it will eventually breakdown. Have a look for Charles Dowding no dig method online. Cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly.

Black 6mil plastic ground cover works great for killing Grass and weeds. Put it down at the end of the Gardening season, it will make your life so much easier, when it comes time to plant again.. Blessing to you. Much respect and love
That was very clever using the ladders to make that platform. Excellent thinking out of the box. I had to build a barn myself and had to think up genius ways to do things on my own too.
FYI with the cardboard you need to do it with multiple layers then put the hock thick mulch on top. I’d say 3-4 layers of cardboard with the layers overlapping at different spots. Then add 4-6 inches of mulch on top that should really help it will also add so much to your soil.

Just thought of a great and simple idea. Each time you want the hard top on and off. Drive the truck into the shed and each time it's going on or off just lower it from the ceiling and strew in. Then say when you want it off. Unbolt, then slip the straps though and whintch up to the ceiling and drive out.

FYI, you can buy cattle panels to use as garden trellis arches. They are cheap and really strong and will last a long time.

I was feeling so anxious all day today, and I just decided to sit and watch your video, and magically all my anxiety has dissipated. I think it’s the genuine laughs you make me laugh, and the way you deal with problems in such a light and human manner. You make me hopeful that better people are out there, that applaud bravery and face mistakes with a good-hearted chuckle.
This may sound crazy, but that Bronco from the 60s is my dream vehicle! No AI, just nuts n bolts! I have a Jeep Wrangler that I love, but since I was little I wanted a 1965-68 Bronco. They're crazy expensive if in great condition, so it'd be an even trade, but no dealerships carry them around here. Although you could have left the tailgate open and driven out with the wheel on, I'm glad you had a chance to break the wheel loose. If you ever need it on the road you'll want it removable without power tools! 👌

You need to do a project in the garage operation clean up the garage , make shelves to put stuff away on shelves in order. So that you can find it at a later date make enough room to back Bronco truck in there and then when you want to remove the top use wood and ratchet straps and hang the top from the ceiling that's what alot of people do when they remove canopy's off of there trucks out of sight out of mind and you can still use the garage until your ready to put your top back on for another season .
I think that is literally what she does later in the video. Maybe you didn't watch the whole thing.

For killing off that patch of grass in your garden with the cardboard....In the fall, try again, but this time lay the cardboard down and then about 4 inches of compost/dirt and then some mulch of some sort. In the spring you will just need to move the mulch to the side where you want to plant. Also, with as much land as you have you could use the grass clippings from mowing in your garden as mulch to keep the weeds at bay.

If you cover the cardboard with a foot or more of compost you can plant directly in the new dirt. The cardboard will keep the weeds suppressed in the beginning and it will eventually breakdown. Have a look for Charles Dowding no dig method online. Cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly.

FYI with the cardboard you need to do it with multiple layers then put the hock thick mulch on top.
I’d say 3-4 layers of cardboard with the layers overlapping at different spots. Then add 4-6 inches of mulch on top that should really help it will also add so much to your soil.

totally feel the same about the gardening thing like you're telling me i put this little pebble thing into the ground and its just gonna GROW into a whole plant? i grew up gardening and it still feels that way. nature is incredible.
Just thought of a great and simple idea. Each time you want the hard top on and off. Drive the truck into the shed and each time it's going on or off just lower it from the ceiling and strew in. Then say when you want it off. Unbolt, then slip the straps though and whintch up to the ceiling and drive out.

Love that you've planted an elm (and called it Elmer! Elm wood can be magical). I've had a small veg garden for over 10 years and it still blows my mind. I've heard silage tarps are good for killing off an area of weeds and more re-usuable than weed-suppressant membrane. Best, Mark
