Striking acting by Amelia Kroehnert - subtle, nuanced, unspokenly provocative yet sweetly innocent. Masterful writing and directing by Victoria Singh-Thompson, all rounded off with spectacular cinematography and excellent crew. 👏🏻👏🏻
Provocative?
@@unvergebeneidI From the writer's perspective, in the sense of the undertones of "lolita-ism" as she sits close to the teacher, his affection barely hidden, the offer of a ride home... and the like.
The blades of grass bit was *chef's kiss*
Harrowing. Very subtle but striking work.
Made my stomach churn wow!
I am gonna be honest, knowing this was based on lolita on the title kinda worsened the experience for me he
But this is a good short, very well made, subtle without over exposition or useless dialogue. Great camera too.
Yeah, a bit of an odd choice. While Lolita is easier to misread as pro-pedophilia because it's written from the perspective of the perpetrator, why would you draw that parallel between this short and the novel if not as a troll for those who identify with Humbert? Which does cheapen the experience either way.
Or to put it differently, Lolita has too much baggage in popular culture to be used in such an odd way in the title.
So unnerving and we'll done. Even without the title you understand the aim.
Why it's impossible for me to understand these short movies? I am unable to understand many of short movies here
You could be looking for it to be explained to you instead of reading between the lines. Some are more obscure as they are based in cultures I'm not as familiar with, so their clues are meaningless to me. But Lolita is a novel about a man who forms a relationship with a young girl. This is a short film based on that story. She is constantly revisiting the meeting with her teacher to the point of obsession, she is developing compulsive behaviors because of it. The blades of grass are a symbol of self pain which is often used to process complex emotions, to have control over SOMETHING. They were subtle about it but it's in the looks, the demeanor, the nervous fidgeting, etc.
@@MystearicaClawsthank you dearly
Same here... Though I've watched the movie Lolita so it was a bit easier for me to get what this short is about!
I feel the same exact way.*😅
Stop trying to understand, just allow yourself to "feel" the movie.
she looks like Minegishi Minami
