In defense of Honkai: Star Rail having a similar UI to Genshin, it gives a sense of familiar to some new players, as Hoyoverse likely knows that a lot of people that play genshin will try out Star Rail.
Plus, different games having similar UI isnt really new, for example the Soulsborne games, they have pretty much the same UI but I've never really seen anyone complain about them.

    • @cezarsoba
      @cezarsoba Před rokem +69

Even with all the similarities to genshin (the loading screen, main game ui, the teleport system, which by all means genshin didn't invent, the gacha and many more) for someone like me who worked genshin since the beginning of the job, I can't call it playing or a game anymore, HSR felt very much like a new game, a new experience, new characters, new story, new places and views to explore, it's tangents to hi3, the comedic relief, the QoL improvements. I've never felt more refreshed in a while.
There is no strict comparison between the two, since they are different genres of games, but star rail got me hooked right now.
Almost makes me forget my pain farming for genshin for 2 years straight.

@@AromaticViolet I have to admit that the characters are shallow, but for someone like me who isn't bothered by that, I quite like the characters that we get to meet and play as, and the fact that the game also sprinkles some lighthearted jokes now and then.

@@cezarsoba Curious which characters you guys consider as shallow? The Landaus companion quest was really well-written and fleshed out the siblings so much. Almost all of the Belobog companion quests were character-driven and with the main quest with Bronya and Seele, we focused on each of the characters there a lot. I can agree with the maybe the Xianzhou chars but it's not right to judge it yet when we are not done with its arc yet. Like with Jing Yuan. Honkai Impact's appeal is definitely in its story. It starts really rough but figures itself out and becomes an amazing piece of art and imo is the best story they've created yet. Some events are really fun and enjoyable with stories woven into them, but most of the time its a battle simulator and while its not BAD, its repetitive at some point and tiring. Such as Chip Space, it sucks. Honkai Impact though is getting an engine update that will probably change the game completely, as the game engine is really showing its age now.
Star Rail is good right now. It's such a polished product that I have yet to find one BIG complaint about it. Its just really good. Dunno about Genshin, quit around a year ago.
But, I think all the Hoyo games are good. In one way or another, they outshine one another and are all games which are great.

Chip space is already removed tho and it isn't something people cared much about, they are still testing new game modes and content to give pri arm mats more and chip space was one such experiment. Engine update is far away, possibly a year. The problem with FGO is that to clear stages with F2P units you need to have them maxed or close to max, and the farming in FGO sucks so much not many people will have the patience to put up with it and, rightfully, spend their time with something else.

It's always exciting to see how Arknights world continues to expand on the world building of Terra's inhabitants. From exploring the dense forests of Sargon, to fighting the Mafia of Siracuse and bloodbornesque waifus slay monsters from the depths of the ocean in Stultifera Navis while the OST the golden age will return again plays in the background. For me, I feel like there is a weird connection between Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Even though the core mechanic is different, the game still looks kinda similar. The thing is, some problems that Genshin has, don't exist in Star Rail, and vice versa.
I loved how Star Rail has so much better user experience in terms of doing your daily tasks and simply navigating through menus. The interaction with the world (I mean the trash can, street lamps, etc.) is so much fun. The town feels so much livelier than Genshin even though you can only do so much in this type of game. The dialogues are so much more interesting, and in some cases felt like our choice matters, unlike the weird dialogue choices in Genshin.
However, in terms of actual play of the game, Genshin naturally takes the crown in my heart. The thrill of exploration and finding places where the scenery looks beautiful are the things that Star Rail just can't replicate. It's not like the world and scenery in Star Rail sucks, but I believe it's because of how the game and its map exploration works that I don't notice much of the background there.
I love both games but each is problematic in its own way. I really wish that hoyoverse would just integrate the goods of their games to each other.

It's funny since mihoyo tried their best to balance all characters that they give in any game through artifacts or stigmata, but people had an issue of that in every single game.
It's funny since people said it's pain to gacha for stigmata as well, so when they introduced artifact grinding so that everyone can have a chance to get proper artifacts, people still had issues.
It's not like hi3 isn't any different, instead of stigmata, now you're grinding the material to make those stigmata, nothing different.

_Genshin_ 's focus is certainly the exploration. Because of all the RNG everywhere, and the lack of a challenge once you get certain characters, it is my least favourite of Mihoyo's games. At least _Honkai: Star Rail_ doesn't have quite as much RNG, but I still winced when I saw we were dealing with a total of 6 relics per set. At least the story and characters so far are enjoyable. And we get another version of Himeko before the Archon Murata shows up in _Genshin_ . My favourite right now, though, is certainly _Honkai Impact 3rd_ , with the lowest RNG, generous rewards and gacha, great characterization and story, and of course, the music. There is no convincing me Mihoyo is _not_ a music-producing company that does games on the side, even if they did revolutionize gacha gaming.

Counter-side was actually really fun while it lasted. I'll be real, the RTA PvP was absolutely freaking addicting and possibly one of the most fun PvP experiences I've had in any gacha game.
And then New Origins happened and everything turned to shit literally overnight. Even disregarding the fact that they basically shafted F2P and low spenders as hard as they can, the fact that they merged the NA server into the KR server despite the fact that the KR server has access to collab units that NA could not obtain and then allowed the collab units to be used in PvP. This was all on top of the fact that B-Side literally stated before the New Origins update that "nope, the PvP queues will be separate for NA and KR so KR can't use the collab units on the NA people".
Some people might ask if NA had any collabs that KR didn't get since if both sides had unobtainable characters things would even out and the answer to that was yes, NA did have a collab that KR did not have and it was the only collab we had at the time. However, that collab was for the Vtuber gacha game and it was skins only with no new characters which was not the case for the KR collabs. Oh and before I forget, the stupid collab was actually set to rerun sometime soon after I quit so KR should already have access to the collab skins as well by now.
B-Side has been the only gaming company in my decades of gaming to make me ever wonder if Nexon was actually the good guys since B-Side pre-leaving Nexon was doing an absolutely fantastic job of managing the game and the moment they left Nexon the dropped the New Origins update and fucked everything up.

I played Arknights for almost 3 years now as an f2p, started in the Stories of the Afternoon event, I have an entire art gallery's worth of maxed 6* and I could say for a fact that grinding for materials never ends as long as you get new operators.
    > Gameplay-wise it is pretty simple but has the potential to be very complex. It can be easy as killing enemies in a choke point, to planning out an entire operator rotation to deal with a boss with multiple phases along with the peons.
For me, I like the casualness of farming easy stages, but also the challenge the extremely hard content the game provides me, since I have lots of the best operators in the game, I breeze through every event, but of course every now and again I get stumped and actually have to think.
(If you are stuck in a particular level, there are tutorials for each level here using low-end units)
    > The Gacha is pretty forgiving, you get your 6* at around 50-60 pulls, and in a lot of the limited banners they give everyone a free 10 pulls as well as free 1 pull everyday up until the banner ends. Every now and then they give out free event 5* but sometimes when a major event comes around, they give you a free 6* along with their potentials (stats increase and talent upgrades when you get dupes)
It is also pretty easy to save up Orundum which you get from annihilations, dailies, maintenance compensation, events associated with limited banners, and Originite Prime (there are probably more but I forgor).
    > Originite Prime is your premium currency and it is incredibly abundant in this game. You get them as long as you finish a stage without losing a life. There are about 12 main story episodes, Intermezzis (past major events), Side stories (also past events), these are ever increasing so I don't worry about running out of OP anytime soon.
For f2p players that are just starting out, they can use OP to restore stamina to farm more, but oftentimes for whales and sometimes even f2p players in the very endgame, they save and use OP for banner pulls.
    > When it comes to the operators, I absolutely love how they all look, every operator 4* - 6* have 2 arts, (the base art and the E2 art.) E2 art is more flashier and in the case of limited operators, it makes their art go from static base art into live 2d art which is really cool to see.
Skins are also really well made, even as an f2p I have a lot of skins because of the abundance of OP the stages give every new event.
When it comes to operators, most operators are viable and can be used, (yes even the low rarity ones). While I wouldn't say, waifu over meta, you definitely need to have a balanced lineup with really effective operators first, before you go on forfeiting everything on a specific 5* character, (but if your waifu IS meta, then why not? go ahead :) )
    > Events and the story are really well fleshed out, but I'm not really the type to read as a hobby so this praise doesn't really hold that much merit, but I have read event stories and the main story a couple times here and there.
My personal favorite storyline was the Near Light event, because it had the main story, a couple of unlockable news articles about the main story, diary entries of an operator who attended in the setting of the event, and piecing the story together was really fun for me.
    > When it comes to talking about Arknights, it would be a sin to not talk about the music. They dabble in a lot of genres, from heavy metal to classical music, (I believe every 6* has a theme associated to them)
I, for one, was not aware that AK had such OSTs up until I was reading risks in the event lobby of Contingency Contract #1 and suddenly the lobby theme dropped on me like a load of bricks, ever since then I was really updated on new music and themes.
    > Overall, there a lot more I want to say about Arknights that I can't put into words, it is one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue art as a lifelong occupation. Will I continue 5 years and even 10 years into the future from now? As long as the developers keep their edge in making the game in the quality they always have created it, of course I would still play. While I have my own criticisms of the game, (some alter operators, powercreep, 300 pull spark system) I will continue playing the game as I enjoyed playing it for years now.
(sorry for the long comment, I really enjoy the game)

I know you said to take this video with a grain of salt, but man did you do FGO dirty. I have only played 3 Gacha games for a long time: Arknights, FGO and Genshin. Out of those 3 FGO has the best story, hands down, and it's sad to see so many people just hate on it. And it definitely doesn't have the worst gacha system, that title goes to Genshin. You complained that the game is too expensive or that enemy mechanics can be BS, but the game is actually quite easy if you understand the mechanics. You can beat the entire game with just F2P characters no problem. The game definitely has many issues that other games don't have, but there is a reason why so many people are still loyal to it.
No hate on the video, just wanted to say my opinion.

I don't mind the terrible gacha rates since the content is clearable with lower rarity regardless of difficulty in the end game, unlike some other games... (especially NIKKE and GBF). Basically don't treat it as a waifu collection game because it's impossible (unless you're Airmong or Touhousniper98) and the main hook in this game is story. The gacha rate might be bad but getting only one doesn’t lock the character skill behind getting dupes like other games(e.g. hutao c1 make her not use stamina while using skill). just only having slightly weaker np damage.

Mihoyo and their designs are legitimately terrible. Every character tends to be overdesigned but somehow manages to end up boring, nothing breaks the general character formula or the same template models they use. Genshin surprisingly had some great examples but HSR is a disaster so far. FGO on the other hand has pretty diverse and distinct character designs. We can all point to specific servant art and laugh, but characters in FGO are often very different and aren't just the same generic anime girl/male/potato with varying hair color/style/bust size. The un-homogenized art direction of fgo is one of it's strengths that I believe is often overlooked. It's a hit or miss yes, but I vastly prefer it over a generic homogenized one. You might get some really terrible art but would you really trade occasional bad duds in exchange for a style that might as well be AI generated?

So here's my rundown of the gachas I tried thou some might not be super accurate:
FGO - Love their servants. Drop rates are a lie. Story picks up on Camelot towards Lostbelt. Turn-based gameplay is fine but feels outdated. Okita, Ryougi, Scathach are my jam. Samurai Remnant game soon.
Arknights - Banger music. Skins are classy. Drop rates are generous. Dark story just like FGO's but could be all over the place at times. Tower defense gameplay that needs big brain & probably guides. Angelina, Blue Poison, Mudrock are my jam. Season 2 anime confirmed.
Azur Lane - Good lord their kansens & skins are ungodly. Drop rates are super generous. Story has historical cues, & could get dark at times. Bullet hell gameplay as usual. Pretty much a waifu/kansen collector game. Iron Blood & Royal Navy Supremacy. Queen E OVA soon.
Priconne - Characters feels so moe & bubbly for some reason. Gameplay def feels outdated & fleet arrangement dictates your game. Drop rates are generous. Story is definitely not as dark as FGO & Arknights. Makoto, Jun & Christina are my jam. Definitely a waifu collector game.
GBF - Havent tried it for too long to understand the story. Their skins are definitely nice. You might as well be a farmer with this game. Gameplay & UI definitely feels medieval. Grea enjoyer here. GBF Relink EN soon.
GFL - Skins nearly as good as the ones in Azur Lane but I hate their skin gacha ffs. Drop rates are generous. Great lore, story has depth & has good character development. Bullet hell gameplay that is outdated yet has that tactical feel to it. Pretty much a waifu/raifu collector game. Heckler & Koch Supremacy.
Idolm@ster Shiny Colors - Story focuses on the idol's journey & their personalities. Drop rates are generous. Gameplay is strategic but for the most part, meh. Also, Oshi No Ko collab is still accessible. Sakuya, Chiyuki, Natsuha are my jam. 2024 anime soon.
Idolm@ster Starlight Stage - Story focuses on the idol's journey & their personalities. Drop rates are slightly less generous than Shinym@s. Rhythm-focused gameplay but with 3D model. Kaede, Ranko & Rin are my jam.
PGR - Same dystopic appeal as NieR Automata but the story is all over the place but has good lore. Hack & slash gameplay is fine, it is well-optimized & has sharp graphics. Drop rates are super generous. Vera & Bianca are my jam. Wuthering Waves when?
HI3rd - Good lore, story has depth with hints of EVA & good character development. Hack & slash gameplay is fine & the colors pop much more than the subtle colors of PGR. Drop rates are generous. Skins look good too. Elysia, Bronie, Fu Hua & Sushang are my jam. HI3rd needs an anime (not that cooking show).
HSR - Story-wise, it is still picking up pace & has good lore. Turn-based gameplay is fine but doesn't feel outdated as FGO's & has good ult animation. Drop rates are not that generous. Lots of easter eggs & meme references. Kafka & Jing Liu pls come home. Skins when?
Haven't tried Blue Archive, NIKKE & Aether Gazer. Not interested in Genshin.
Autoplay in HSR, GFL, Azur Lane & Arknights are a godsend.

      HI3rd
Wouldn't call drop rates in HI3rd generous, considering you need a character, their full stigmata set and their unique weapon, to be useful. Not to mention that rank upgrade for character can give you a very strong boost.
      FGO
Not only outdated gameplay, but also outdated UI and poor optimization. In general don't see the budget going back into the game nowadays.
      Arknights
Good story, but bad pacing with walls of unnecessary text (just like HI3rd tbh, CN writers moment, I guess). See a lot of love and appreciation going back to the community from the devs. Music company for a reason.
      Blue Archive advertisment incoming:
If you want more lighthearted but still very deep story, try Blue Archive. Funny enough, although the story is heartwarming, it is the only gacha game besides Honkai impact, that made and still makes me cry. And it is THE ONLY ONE that makes me laugh with every event/every new story.
I like the gameplay, but it can be not for everyone.
The characters are amazing, each one has their own mini story that you can read and understand them better.
Music is great as well, has quite some bangers, but imo it's just a standard for good gacha game nowadays.
And cause you mentioned autoplay, BA has something even better called skip. You just need to beat a stage once with 3 star rating and then you can farm it by pressing one button.
Gacha is pretty good as well, not only developers are very generous, but the game has spark system. Basically if you rolled certain amount, you can just buy that character. Sadly it doesn't retain rolled amount between banners, if it did, I would be confident to call it the best gacha system ever. Rates are 3%, every half a year we get a fest banner with boosted rates up to 6%.
Oh, and when you got one copy of SSR, you are basically done, more copies give you stat increase, but instead of pulling more copies, you can just straight up buy fragments of those characters with currency you get from rolling gacha.

Gacha ? Yeah rip when you lose the 50/50, but you can still get the character after, and don't worry, I got Venti one year after his release. Some world quests are so long but...well, if you manage your primogems and resources well, you can end up getting what you want. It was one of my first RPG game, I'm not disappointed. But it would be nice to have more primogems-and free skins(haha).
Arknights : I was afraid I wouldn't pass the levels, but with practice, you get used to it. The character design is beautiful, and with 3-4 stars, you can pass any level (well, it depends, but overall, yes). The music : very very good, same for story. English is not my native language, and thanks to Arknights, I improved my English ! The gacha ? Well, I got characters I love, I'm happy with my operators !
As a f2p player, I'm happy to buy outfits of my favorites operators without having to pay (not like Genshin haha).
And they are generous for rewards (anniversary content, tickets to get free orundums). And it's still a game where you can get a free skin (it happened at an event) and an excellent 6* operator (Lumen). YES. Genshin will never do that lol😂
Star Rail ? It's perfect for relaxing at evening, the turn-by-turn combat is cool, and you can do a break when you want to do something else. The story is nice, the gacha ? Well I didn't get Luocha buuuut, I know he'll come back and it's nice to give 10 tickets when a new banner come.
The rest ? (maybe FGO one day if i'm not lazy)Well not my style, honestly, the gacha I suffered the most : Project Sekai. Man, if you really really want a card, you need to save up for months and pray to throw 300 pulls (~60k crystals approximately)and the 4* with his/her costume/hairstyle.

My unrequested thoughts on some of these games
Genshin Impact was my first gacha game and it really surprised me with it's quality. Especially with the world exploration, because holy shit, that's the best part of this game by far. I also like the elemental based combat, I can consistently 36* the abyss so I don't care that much on building new characters unless I think the gameplay is fun. My most hype moments with Genshin is when new areas are added.
I started playing Honkai Impact 3rd because of genshin and it quickly became my favorite MiHoYo game. The story is amazing, fucking love the characters, the music is one of the best and the combat is also pretty good. This game legit lives rent free on my head.
I gave it a try to Honkai: Star rail because of HI3rd. It was tons of fun during the first month but after that it became pretty boring. I'm not really a fan of turn based RPG (Unless it's GBA pokemon at 4x speed). The systems look way too much like genshin, which is good for the familiarity but also may limit them on trying something new. I now only plan to login into this game during story patches, and the only reason I'm still interested is because of the direct connections with HI3rd.
I tried Blue Archive purely because of the characters, I read so many doujinshi of it that I thought I would just give the game a try. The gameplay was way more fun then I was expecting, but I still haven't played enough to judge it's story or the overall feel of the game long term.
You didn't talk about it on the video, but Punishing Gray Raven is also a pretty fun game. I only started playing a month ago when I saw that they had released a PC version. The combat system is pretty fun, it's basically HI3rd combat on steroids, still haven't played a lot of the story to judge it though.

I think the main difference between Genshin and HSR is that HSR is:
-A lot more generous for f2p players, they gave out more free pulls in 4 months than Genshin in 3 years lmao
-The story actually go places and the dialog doesn't stall, Genshin dialog can go for way too long, the story is already miles better than Genshin had up to 1.2
-The farming is not tedious thanks to autoplay and 2x speed
-Has more endgame options compared to Genshin
-The gameplay is speed up considerably and has a lot more QoL
    -Archives (some) events
-Doesn't prevent you to continue a quest because of a NPC being "busy" in another quest
the only negative on HSR compared to Genshin is the insane ammount of materials to build a character, and I'd argue that relic farming is actually worse than artifact farming

I almost dropped every other gacha game beside FGO, if you don't have a big reason to keep playing them it's hard to justify logging in every day. FGO has probably the best story in this category of games so every negative part about it is ultimately irrelevant to the whole experience.

I'd say the story is the weakest part of Genshin but it excels on pretty much everything else. As for repetitive gameplay, that's kinda the draw or downside depending on the type of player you are. As an old-school gamer, I'm used to repetitive gameplay so it's really not a thing for me and as one of the older players as far as time spent with the game, I already have teams that can make short work of the mob enemies to the point where I can clear the daily commissions, grinding artifacts, and even a bit of farming on the side in roughly 15 minutes (or less if I'm rushing). Which gives me time to do stuff I really want to do like clearing world quests, event missions, or just wandering the landscape which is frankly one of the biggest draws for a former gamer turned part-casual like me.
As for HSR, I say your points are valid but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It doesn't do anything new but what it does do, it does very well because the game has refined every aspect of itself based on the developer's experiences up to this point. Jaded players might find it a bit lacking but newer players should definitely enjoy this.

Its not as grindy as other games where there are random stat gearing mechanic but fixed stat so all your grind efforts aren’t all wasted over getting stronger which is more chill than most repetitive gacha games. "Random stat gearing" maybe I'm reading this too deeply, but it also applies to genshin, so I'll answer. You also don't need to invest a penny to get any 5* you just won't be able to get all the characters in the game. So what is the difference between genshin and fgo?

For example hoyoverse games, specifically genshin should be played in pc/ps for a full experience. btw, as a vet impact 3rd player, I agree with your points. Great review!

I haven't played Blue Archive enough to know if characters are farmable...
As for Arknights, characters are obtained using premium currency, event currency, recruit vouchers and free recruit gacha.
(Characters are capped to five dupes. When you receive your sixth dupe u can trade it for gold tickets that can be used to buy a six star)
You need 34 pieces of premium currency to pull 10x, or 6000 free grindable currency that you can obtain from weekly annihilation
(You are rewarded one piece of premium currency after you 3 star a level)

@@nicholasmogiba6361 I understand what you mean. While the gameplay is intuitive, if you can't afford to spend time learning the nuance of completing every single stage, it is very frustrating.
If you do play the game, refer to guides or websites. Take your time to learn which character to pull for and most of all enjoy the game

@@nicholasmogiba6361Arknights in comparison to other gachas doesn’t really ask for commitment. Anything that does is usually just login events and the novel-long stories. So you could be gone for half a year and you won’t feel like you’re left behind (for semi-exception of limited banners)

@@nicholasmogiba6361For Blue Archive. In standard gacha fashion, it has hard stages where you can farm specific characters “elephs.” You’ll need 120 total elephs of said given character to redeem them. This could easily take about 2 maybe even 3 months at most because the drop rate for these elephs is bit of a mixed bag, meaning RNG, you only have 3 chances to farm said hard stage (character specific stage mind you.) a day, you can of course use the games gacha currency, “pyroxenes” to renew your attempts and sweep said hard stages again but again it’s all RNG to obtain those elephs.
Other then that…there is characters that you can buy via the raid/pvp shop with the given raid/pvp currency you obtain when participating in those modes.

This isn’t an OG gacha game but one that is based the infamous 7DS. It’s my favourite mobile game. The Gauhati rates are decent and the game is probably the most awarding game I’ve played. Just by doing dailies and logging in every day, you can atleast do 1 full rotation on fest banners and splurge some gems on limited banners of characters you like. The turn based gameplay is amazing and it has some of the greatest card/ult animations I’ve ever seen. It also adapts s3, 4 and 5 better than the anime imo. I recommend checking it out

fun fact: you CAN skip star rail dialogue but only if it's not the first time you see it. (I found this out when I fought Kalfka and lost due to not having a healer on my team but I was able to skip the cutscene and dialogue)

I've played nikke since the game came out. It turned out to be a porn game. As of now it's terrible, they just steal your money, time and dignity so you can look at pretty PNG's. If you ever think about playing this game, don't. And if you already do, please stop.

Your review of Fate Grand Order skips out a lot of details that makes me think you aren't familiar with either the characters story or financial aspects of the game, as this point the base units given to the players is enough to clear the game, the gacha system rework now has it a lot better then before, way more than some on this list even, and the characters that you complained about differ quite significantly, overall a terrible review

Nice video overall only two gripes that I have is you didn't talk about Genshin OST which was a but sad but also the mention to endgame, that term never made sense to me when talking about Genshin because story wise we are barely over half way in the game so how can there be endgame content?? Yes there is abyss but I would only count that as half endgame (weird I know), because it was made to test out different team compositions and it doesn't really feel like it's part of the end of the game, just a hard mode. Rant over you should try FEH and Pokemon Masters and review them

I don't know how some people can play so much games to the point they can judge and compares all of them (not that I've a problem with that, just wondering, ) but they often forget that the term *'fun'* is subjective, no need to force and attack someone just because you have different opinion with them,
