  • A small group of local criminals, with mafia connections, were making vast fortunes in the famous NSW Riverina irrigation district from marijuana plantations. Corrupt police and a vast bribery network had kept the drug barons immune from prosecution until Donald Mackay's campaign finally led to raids by the State drug squad and several local marijuana growers were arrested and fined.

The first case reminds me of another case that was much more recent and luckily both girls lived! They were backpackers from Germany and Columbia ( I believe ) and the guy who offered them a ride attacked them both and it’s a harrowing tail but they survived! The one girl was running in the sand for hours while he tried to hit her with his car! She jumped on top of the car too! Amazing story of survival!

I think in the 50's it was unheard of for little ones to be taken and people were trusted and didn't lock their doors . but nowadays its CCTV and lock your windows as well as your doors .. anything to protect your family especially the little ones. Such sad stories i hate hearing about beautiful children being hurt killed or abducted etc .. its just rotten and evil.

They don't know how to protect themselves. What was so important that she had to send them alone.... housework? Well she doesn't have that anymore. I can't understand that. They were left vulnerable and to defend themselves against anything and everything at that young age. Wow!

the two girls were definitely up something not good. They left their siblings purposely behind as to not expose them to what they had planned to do behind the sandy hills on the beach that day. One of the girls keeps looking back to check whether or not they are being followed by their siblings it seems to ensure that they are not.
Beaches, in many part of Australia are not a place for children. They are often full of adults that are in state of undress and that might be something that acted as a draw for the two teenage girls who wound up bumping into a person who sexually assaulted and murdered them.

@@DavidSmith-ez4pk A bit late but I have a little bit of insight concerning ancient DNA.
You have to have good stable circumstances for it to survive in bigger segments and you have to be extremely careful not to contaminate it with your own DNA. I know two archaeologists who excavated a cave that was used from the Neolithic to about the early Iron Age as a burial place and they had to get in there in full body suits and also give their DNA for analysis in case a little bit of spittle or what have you got on the bones so they could identify the "foreign DNA".
If they didn't handle the DNA in the case correctly (e.g. took a sample with a contaminated swab like it happened in the 2000s in Germany) and didn't keep it in stable conditions there is a good chance it deteriorated beyond being usable (at least for now...).
What I would find interesting is if they already did bloodtype analysis from sperm as they did in other older cases (if they already had the technology back then...).

This may seem nit-picky, but... The narrator reads a witness description of a "FAIR haired stranger" playing with the Beaumont children... and the scene cuts to a very dark haired man playing with kids. If you're trying to spark memory and recognition in witnesses who haven't stepped forward, I'd think you'd want to cast an actor who looks as close to the witness description as possible! Especially since, even among Caucasians, adult males with blonde hair, aren't actually that common, and would be something an observer might specifically remember!

The teen also COULD have took off running for help earlier, since she couldn't help her friend just standing there, although, AGAIN, their murderer COULD have incapacitated them BOTH somehow, first, or caught her right away as she was running off, while the other victim lay dying from stab wounds, etc. They clearly were two, nice, naïve, innocent, normal teenage girls, who, understandably & tragically, were COMPLETELY fooled, ambushed & overpowered by their manipulative, sociopathic, diabolical killer...SO SAD...

I don't know why the Police could not solve that one, there was a lot of evidence and DNA on their bodies....The Australian Criminal System is absolutely shocking...they let extremely violent criminals out...either on bail or before their time...and they go on to kill again. It was the 1960's. My mother grew up in the 50's, and as the oldest she was expected to look after the younger kids, even though she was only in grade school herself. That was not uncommon. And people trusted each other more in general. A crowded beach would've been considered a safer place for kids to be than an empty one, because most people felt a sense of community and responsibility. As to why the mother didn't go herself, she was probably busy doing chores without the aid of modern conveniences. (A lot of people still didn't have washing machines back then, for instance.)
When I was growing up in the 80's, we stayed out all day during the summer with no adult supervision. That started around the time I was 7. I could even ride my bike down to the neighborhood swimming pool, even though it was not very close to our house. The only rules were that I wasn't allowed to leave our large neighborhood, and I had to be back for dinner. By the time I was 12, I'd taken a Red Cross babysitting course and was babysitting little children for hours while their parents did whatever they had to do. None of this was uncommon.
50 years in the future, things you are currently doing will be considered appalling to the younger generations.

The Netherlands was in those days and in someways remains today a haven for international child exploitation syndicates. Children from the UK and around Europe were shipped there for decades.
It is interesting to me that the Dutch psychic was so interested in interjecting himself in this case and that he seemed so certain that no foul play was involved and that the Beaumont children simply met with an accident. It’s almost as if he wished to misdirect or possibly shut down the police investigation entirely. Could just be a publicity seeker or possibly something more sinister.
Australians know that as shocking as it might sound these type of child exploitation rings existed in the past. They are often highly organized, adequately bankrolled and protected by high placed beneficiaries.

With the Beaumont children there was also a spear fishing group of boys who was somehow or another connected to a bad child sex group. They had been victims of it and one or two turned predator at a very young age. I bet the killer is somewhere in the numerous police photos too.
