  • Alrighty fellow Travel Dons, we have made it to Veracruz, Mexico. Come along with me on this particular journey as I meet up with a local Chef and Musician as they take through the historic streets of Veracruz to sample the local flavors and see some historical sites.
    Veracruz is the original capitol of Mexico and the home of Mexico's Naval headquarters. With such a connection to the sea iti sno wonder that Verazcruz is known as one of the best places in Mexico for seafood. Ceviche being one of the most popular items on the menus.
    Joining me on this particular journey is a local Chef named Ruth Quetzalli. She is classically trained and owns a Crepe shop on the South end named for her daughter. Adan is a local musician who grew up in veracruz but, has traveled to play gigs throughout Mexico. Specifically, Mexico City and Cancun. If you want to experience this tour check out the AirBnb link below.

    Mexico ( hands down!) has the BEST food! Never been to Veracruz before, but your video has convinced to check it out! We're gonna be in Mx in May and will have to add this to our trip! The CEVICHE you tried has our mouths watering! Great immersive video we loved it!

      It's definitely up there for sure. I'm sort of stuck between Spain and Mexico when it comes to my favorite cuisine. They both may be Spanish speaking cultures but, the food is so different. That ceviche was the best I've ever had.

      @AdventuresOfATravelingDon yes it can be very ungodly hot. Xalapa has more of a rainy climate in the summer and fog. Veracruz has the beach but a few blocks away from the gulf it's quite hot. Lol

      What's the name of the King Cake in Belgium and is the tradition different?

    • @StepsbyKaatje
      @StepsbyKaatje Před rokem

      @@AdventuresOfATravelingDon it's a cake you eat on the 6th of January. The day of the 3 kings. They say that's the day when the kings came with presents to visit Jezus 12 days after Christmas.
      It's a cake for usually 4 persons and there is a sort of bean in it. If you're the one with the bean, you're king for the day and can put on the crown. (a paper one) we don't do presents on that day...
      I guess a European and especially a catholic tradition.
      By the way, your beer looked pretty good as well! 😉

      A good idea. Although the story wouldn't be too long. It was basically buying ice from Oxxo that triggered it. Basically laid in my room for 3 days and took Imodium. Thankfully my case wasn't the nightmarish version I've heard others have.

      @@jasontaylor404 there is only one kind of ice. I doubt it was the ice that gavehim the runs. I usually get diarrhea in Mexico from either fruit/vegetable or bad cheese.

    The cathedral of Veracruz does not have gold nor is it decorated in a sumptuous way because the pirates who arrived at the port always went to loot it. So in order not to give the gold to the pirates, the town and the church decided to leave it as austere as possible. The person talking about the Rosca de Reyes didn't say it right. The doll represents the baby Jesus. Tradition says that if it is a person's turn, that person must give them tamales to the people he is with
