@@trainman665 it is because what comes next, that car could of easily lost control, if cars keep going faster and faster one is bound to lose control and no one wants that with children around.
If the car loses control, it is because the driver was passing through irresponsibly; as in this case. It's not the road's fault that knobheads make an arse of the crossing. Plenty responsible people getting through just fine.

I agree totally. I love these Videos of Tom’s, Ben, Car Man etc but it’s getting dangerous. I’ve not always been a boring old git, years ago I used to organise car meets and they went absolutely brilliantly until some people started driving like tools and that’s when we had the police clamp down on us, VOSA ( as it was then ) and the councils. Only takes one incident to ruin everything.
I totally agree, some of the speeds to show off will end in a serious accident.
I love the videos but playing to the crowd with children so close is a recipe for disaster.
I can see gates being fitted and locked closed when it's anything more than a puddle.

Apart from the obvious risk of aquaplaning straight into a tree or child, this is reckless driving. I dont doubt its great fun, driver and spectator alike, but its a public road and its only a matter of time before the inevitable occurs. And where are the parents of these children? There's enough "adults" around to somehow get those kids out of grave danger.

Yeah when hitting water at these speeds, your tyres will lose contact with the ground which means no steering for a while, which also means a child standing at the side could easily be wiped out for good.

@@muckspreader1able It's not the electrics you have to worry about, it's the air intake. Most BMWs have the intake very low down in the front bumper, which is why almost everytime there's a flood, you'll find a BMW stalled in the middle of it.

Good to see someone is cleaning up after them 👍 waiting for the time when someone has to do an emergency stop - probably because a kid is standing in the way - and can’t because their brakes are still drenched. I don't know if the insurance companies have to pay out, because the line of little granite squares each side of the ford, denote the end of the public highway so any damage received while inbetween those lines technically happened off road so the drivers might not be covered.

Two questions. The Mitsubishi ute that went down the creek, do you call that an L200 or a Triton? In NZ it's a Triton. Also, when a motor gets hydro locked, is it smoke or steam that's blowing out exhaust?
When it’s hydolocked, nothing blows out the exhaust
Steam, sometimes smoking too, Mitsubishi L200 is correct. We call pick ups, 4x4, jeeps or jeep pick up...
If it's serious in most cases the engine is finished
In Australia and NZ it's Triton. In Europe it's L200.

2 questions to all you learned experts.
1) if you go at a descent speed, but turn the engine off in neutral, just before the moment of water impact, so the car reaches way past half distance, then turn your engine on, and get out, would that stop the engine from flooding.
2) What if you drove backwards, thus stopping air getting into the filter etc, as their seems to be more of an air pocket in the rear wake.
No as water would go up inside the intake pipes, so water would get sucked in.... One could be lucky of course....
Reverse if one has to go through will of course be the safest option....

I'm not much of an environmentalist, but the amout of pollution entering the water must be horrendous for the water wildlife.
If your exhaust is below the waterline, you need your engine running to prevent water backfilling your exhaust which would prevent you restarting the engine.
1) water would still be pushed into the intake, in theory you could kill the engine just before you drive through then remove the water later before starting and you'd be okay, though you'd lose power assisted brakes and steering, and possibly engage the steering lock too, which isn't the best move in what's becoming a more crowded area. You'd have other issues as well, water getting into electrical connectors, blowing hoses loose if they aren't clamped, getting into the bell housing/onto the clutch, etc. It's best to go slow and create a wake, or even better just pick a different route.
2) driving backwards is safer, and if you've followed the channel for a while you'll see a few people do this, I believe in one of the videos the locals that live in the house next to the ford backed out and reversed all the way through - it creates a bigger wake (like you say) in front of the car and gives the intake a bit more room to breathe. There's no major risk of pushing water through the exhaust either, not compared to the intake, contrary to what some people might think (at least not with the engine running).
