LOL! I was thinking the same thing & wondering how much longer it will be before Morgan harvests the pigs. They seem to have be the easiest, most economical animals he's raised on the farm so far.
They also taste wonderful marinaded in apple juice or hard cider.

A small herd of goats would make easy work of all the undergrowth, plus they have personality off the charts 😊

And you can get milk from them, make soap and cheese from their milk, etc. Much better than sheep, imo.
I love goats we have a few. They are very entertaining, but very mischievous.

I really like those pigs. Will be sorry when they're gone. But, on a happy note, it's so nice to see Abby back on the cow pasture.
I hope he does pigs next year, perhaps higher up in his secret pasture, and that he also adds a small flock of turkey seasonally, but that is because I would like to see Morgan try to fatten both on acorns before he harvests.
Do you have any plans to cut back trees and expand your productive acres?

My pigs got scraps & freezer clean outs. Leftover pumpkins after Halloween. Upside the pumpkin seeds sprouted around the pen fence. I highly recommend giving pumpkins where you want a future patch.
It is exciting to see how the birds and pigs are growing. The work they are doing on the farm is wonderful!
As for a sign to the upper pasture, how about "Entering Gold Shaw Highlands"
I feel sad we may not get pigs next year. They've been wonderful to watch and my family has enjoyed learning about how they grow.
@11matt11 - You and your family may well enjoy The Hollar Homestead channel (Meg was featured in one of Morgan's videos showing him her soap making techniques). Ben and Meg Hollar have been raising and self-butchering their pigs for about three years. Their two sows gave birth during the past week. The newest babies were in the most recent video (Friday). The other new piglets were featured in Tuesday's or Wednesday's video.

I am completely surprised that you are able to leave those bins of food out in the open and nothing is coming in the night to eat/knock the cans down. The guard dogs are doing a fantastic job.

I will also miss the piggies. No shame though just liked seeing them and seeing you work with them and how they helped with the food waste.

We think Pablo barn cat is experiencing over stimulation when he bites like that. Check out Jackson Galaxy, he has a CZcams channel all about cats. As a "Dog Person" I have learned so much from him.

A couple of my cats in the past would do the bite-lick when they felt ticked about me having been gone too long. The bite was light punishment, with the lick confirming I was still wanted as their human.
I love how when he is explaining about the chickens, the white chicken's head doesn't move from it's spot as it's body moves around. ❤❤❤

On our ranch my mom had a "pet" pig and she was very clean, mud freaked her out she screamed when put in a muddy area, she hated other pigs but loved one of the dogs.
Morgan that mud area will make one awesome garden for the Misses !
It would! But she already has one. He rarely makes videos about it though
I had a mini pig who was fully litter box trained. It wasnt hard either. I had wood chips in a plastic tub. When she pooped on the floor. I would pick it up, show it to her. Then throw it in her litter box. It wasn't long before she was going in her box full time. She even taught my puppy how to use the litter box.

Pigs are extremely smart. I had a yorkshire sow that acted more like a dog than a pig. ❤️🐷

They do get pushy and dangerous, there is a reason why, in the starting scene of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy falls in the pigpen that everyone panics and rushes to haul her out quick. People that have never owned pigs always think it is funny, but people who have owned pigs know that she was in real danger at that point.

This is how my Dad fed his pigs, Well until he decided to get 200 of them and even then he had a deal with a few grocery stores.

I think pigs are a great animal to keep having. They serve a good role ecologically, and their food is mostly leftovers from other processes.

Before they go to freezer camp, harden then off in last month with cracked corn. This will take a lot of fat off them. It really makes a big difference. An old farmer told us this and it really works.
I wonder if the spent grains have the same effect?

If it hasn't already been done, you just described the plot (ha! little farm pun!) of a horror movie where the farmer steps into the pig sty to feed the pigs and. . . . . . It's alpacs that have a communal designated poop location in their pastures.
Did anybody else notice when he was doing the chicken comparison how no matter how much he moved the white chicken around, its head remained stationary. It was amazing.

Here's a little story about Sookie the Beaver Retriever. Last month, we were in the backyard hanging out. She was doing her usual plowing through everything, checking to see if there were any new smells or something new to entertain herself with. I was doing cat chores & fussing over my plants. She started barking, growling, jumping around something I couldn't see in the pine & cedar shavings.
To my amazement, this thing was a small fluffy bird feather! It obviously was a big deal to her, and then she ate it.
Good thing I didn't get any baby chicks like I wanted to it would or could have turned out badly. She's a good-natured dog. I kinda think it was a first experience
Freak out. She still eats feathers! As for this dream of her having chicken friends, let's just say the thought of her eating a chick nauseates me.

🍜🌌You can get a rescue chicken pretty easily and get yourself a shock collar. They're not very bad they're just startling. They have less shocked than a triple a battery powered tens unit. Let your dog wear it for a while beforehand so that they don't associated with the shock. Then train them not to attack your chickens. If a dog is never seen a chicken before this works pretty well. Unless they have an incredibly high prey drive, but that's generally pretty obvious beforehand. I've had too many dogs and a lot of chickens.
Your pigs have lots of room, it may make them careless.. I worked in a barn that had some some stall about 10by10. The sows would go in one corner about 2x2. All I had to do is scrape out one corner,

You could have made your pigs more friendly if you wanted, but I am not sure there's much point to that when you know they will get the chop. I remember as a kid the place I spent my time (kine an afterschool thing with chickens and all sorts of animals and you having your own plot where you had your little house and you could keep like a rabbit), got a pig to feed up to slaughter. It was a he(barrow, I assume) . It was a more or less public place where you could get in and after 6pm crawl the fence if you wanted. But some boys abused him and he bit one pretty badly in the knee. (They went into his pen). But I was always able to go in there and sit with him and pet him in his bed of straw. I wouldn't have been more than 13 so I am not sure I understood what would happen, otherwise I wouldn't have befriended him like that. I think the adults working at the place and had the responsibilities of maintaining it, were nervous cos he was getting to a size where they were not comfortable getting into a pen with an animal they never bothered to befriend. So they asked me, I remember changing his straw bed (where he did not shit btw lol) a few times. I would say pigs are not the BEST pets cos they are too intelligent and will try manipulate you. But he was nice and at least he had me as a friend in his short life.

Good looking set of pigs though I think you can still get more work out of them if you move them down to where you want to open a pth to the new spring. They might clear you a path to the spring before you send them to freezer camp.

our silkie rooster (Zoom) was exactly like your little racing striped one haha! silkies are very hard to tell what gender they are for months. we were hoping that it would be a hen, but we ended up with a rooster. he's a really cool rooster through, so we kept him :)
So since you plan not doing pigs again next year, are you planning doing another experiment with an livestock breed next year like Sheep or Goats?
