Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

I reckon 50% of what was keeping Monk crazy throughout the series was the knowledge that the police force would hire Randy, but not him.
Good point
Well, in the earlier seasons, he wasn’t that much of an idiot, like “Mr Monk and the Airplane”, made him up in the spotlight
@@lukacunningham342 yeah he just devolved into comedic relief
I like how Stottlemeyer tries to protect Randy from the humiliating truth at the end: "They were in it together."
Yes, protect. . .
Well technically they were "working" together. Not the same way Randy thinks they were.
😮
It was Andy protecting Barney
I don't know, I personally blame the robot. 😆
Randy: "I came here every year on my birthday."
Captain: "When you were a kid."
Randy: ....
Captain: "When you were a kid, right?"
"Say yes Randy..."
Hey I am 25 and still love to go with family to fun places on my birthday
@@chrisdonovan9872 when you were a kid right?
Please say yes
@@josephbassey1501 I already comfirm my age as this moment so no going out to eat on you're birthday with family is nothing to be ashamed off
@@chrisdonovan9872 I agree. I don’t see anything wrong with an adult man going to a museum for his birthday.
Randy: If this were a movie, you’d believe me.
Stottlemeyer: If this were a movie I could walk out Randy.
Oh snap.🤣 I just love Stottlemeyer’s sass/comebacks.😊
And to think Stottlemeyer is played by Ted Levine who was Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.
@@brandonallen3808 And the violence obsessed guard in Shutter Island... Ted Levine is an underrated treasure.
Randy told a machine to stop 😂 and I feel like it moving during the fight was more scary than the fight itself
Imagine how scary it would be if it did stop. That moment of realizing that it understood your threat and the silence thereafter.
"You meant when you were a kid"
"Say yes Randy"
LOL
Good thing Randy was there to stop the robot uprising.
An egg-eating robot.
The oddball situations this show comes up with are part of its charm. And somehow they fit so well with Monk's own brand of eccentricity.
But it wasn't clever. I think stealing a robot from a museum just to repurpose as a drummer to fake an alibi seemed like too large a leap in logic just to commit a jewelry store robbery. If cops checked out the noise complaint, it would fail. Later season episodes seemed to get lazy on the plot/mystery.
@@pushingdasies1 if they checked out the noise complaints every time before the robbery then he would've been there. He only put the machine out one time. And cops rarely check noise complaints after the first time honestly
Master mind house burglars!
@@pearluniverse7878 that’s true.
Although playing drums at 10.30 at night is a complaint they might check on… so it WAS a bit of a risk.
@@pushingdasies1 The manager of the jewelry store was "shot and killed". I'm pretty sure the robbery itself was also just to cover up motive for the murder.
When Randy continously called Togo and it's head actually turned 😳 what?????!
Captain:U don't want to kill a cop
Monk:Or an ex cop
Natalie: or an ex cop's assistant

I love how the captain just tolerate Randy's stupidity. 🤣
to tolerate and to live with are two different things
@@voltjmgaming2119
No sh!t! How come I didn't know about that? Thanks professor!
OH! I thought he saw the robot and criminal but just just saw the robot as the bigger threat. Randy really just saw a robot shaking sticks at 3 people and heard "down on your knees" and was not at all suspicious that it might be someone else. A true believer.
He also perceived of the sticks as a deadly weapon, as if the robot would throw them with extreme velocity. 😆
@@randomfullywonderful Plenty of people mistake other things for deadly weapons... as in guns.
At a glance - or from a partially obscured angle - the sticks COULD be guns. :p
The captain basically being Randy's dad is the most wholesome thing ever even in this episode 😭😭
I lost it when Randy started unloading at the robot
He had no choice, the robot posed an imminent and deadly threat with those drumsticks!
It fucking looked at him I'm crying 😂😂
Who bloody cares if Randy's an adult who visits this place on his birthday? He's an adult and can choose to do what makes him happy. :P
Captain Stottlemeyer cares. He probably wouldn't, though, were it not for all the other times Randy has said or done childish things.
Something making me happy doesn't mean it's not weird.
It is good to see the law finally catch up to Togo and he will face justice.
They had the perfect setup for Randy to be a hero and they threw it away.
Yeah, really disappointing and makes him a flat character
Anyone else notice how Randy also straightened up when Marge told Monk to @4:13?
I didn't. Thanks for pointing it out!
Never noticed that. Thanks lol
Randy "I cam here ever year on my birthday"
Captain "When you were a kid"
Randy....
Captain "When you were a kid?"
🤣
"They were in it together."
"I *KNEW* it"
such a missed opportunity
7:15 I don’t think I’ve ever seen monk get that violent before.
It like the adrenaline and police training override his OCD
I thought that too. That was the most physical that I have ever seen him.
"I made a friend. It could happen." Mood.
"Togo no💔!"
Oh Randy
I haven't seen this episode for years but right when she said that she saw him I was like, oh of course it was actually Togo.
Look at mr monk with a hell of a left hook and a knee to the body.
I'm saying! Who knew
I mean, he *is* a trained former cop, who has a lot of pent up aggression as his wife's murderers eventually find out.
He's definitely had moments where he'll run for cover, but in such close quarters you really don't have a choice but to go all in and get the gunman down.
I hated when monk ruined the original relationship between him and the old lady. His talent is a gift and a curse for real!😔😄
Okay to be fair to Randy the robot did actually react to him. It turned towards him when he called out the first time for seemingly no reason, then as he was shooting it it seemed to shake its head before turning to look at him dead-on.
They made Randy too stupid. He would never be a detective.
True. Of course he's the perfect comic relief but sometimes it went too far, like in this episode.
Oftentimes he's just made to seem a bit naïve, but occasionally they push it a bit too far. I agree that being this dense he would not be on the force for too long.
Have you seen our police force?
🤣🤣🤣
He went on to be the chief of police in another state.
and this is why randy is my favorite character
Yea they were in it together . Him and the robot. Gota love the captain comebacks
That explains almost nothing.
Such conviction.
Well you have to have some way to cope with your assistant being an manchild idiot
I hate that they never let Monk keep a friend other than the main characters.
Gotta love randy
I have never seen this short before. Oh wait. It was just uploaded.
Nice!
6:52 "Keys, you don't wanna do this. You don't wanna kill a cop."
"Or an ex cop."
"Or an ex cop's assistant."
Also 7:15 Why is Randy shooting at the robot? And 7:16 Mon has a good left hook.
and a good right knee
Because randy has a child's intelligence.
They set it up that Randy thought it could be AI. Then, his view obscured the gunman, hence robot assassin!
@@jackcoleman5955 Without a clear shot, his objective was to confuse the killer, giving his partners a diversion so they could take the killer down. Brilliant plan.
you actually cant figure out why randy was shooting at the robot? how do you put on pants?
I like the episode about monk having a friend/mother figure. But hated the mystery. He stole a robot just to have a double to rob a jewelry store. It seemed like they were running out of ideas and it was lazy on the mystery.
Some of the episodes really aren't about the mystery, it's about one of the main characters and they build it around them. I think this is one of those.
Stottlemeyer to Randy: “If this were a movie, I could walk out.” 😂😂😂
And then Togo said “Ow!”
You know that if word got out that Randy thought an egg eating robot was sentient and thus he opened fire, he would never live it down at the station.
When she said sit up, both Randy and Monk sat up
The funniest episodes. Chuckles galore.🤣
Why don't I remember this episode? I watched the whole series twice over
Tony was solid gold as Jeep in MIB.
Poor Randy, he can go there on his birthday if he wants
Randy's touch 😂🤣
Togo was dripping xD
Man English is not my first language but that comment made my day
why does everybody on the show hate on Randy? He's a fun guy
This was a pretty clever plan, this one. The robot alibi thing.
I love how the police are always ready to pin the crime on someone who didn't do it on a whim then monk comes through and solve the case with actual detective work...
If I recall correctly in this episode, Monk didn't believe her either, because he didn't believe she could be nice to him just for the sake of being nice, it was sad.
@@sarahberkner That's because the last time he trusted someone who purported to be his actual friend (aside from Sharona/Natalie, Stottlemeyer or Randy, I mean), that person was just using him to steal a piece of evidence that would link him to a murder.
Monk was crushed when it was revealed. So of course he would be suspicious the next time someone appeared to genuinely like him and want to be his friend.
Oh, and then there was the case at his 25th university reunion when he found out that all the people who thought were his friends in uni were really just mocking him behind his back the whole time. :p
Togo! No!
Monk is actually a decent fighter.
That explains almost nothing 🔥love randy
The guy who plays Randy must be big at sci-fi conventions now because of his wild theories on the show lol.
Finally, Randy Saves the day by "Terminating" the Robot..😄😄
yup, I really trust this is a competent cops
Soooo you rob a store, knowing you need an alibi, which involves robbing somewhere else first, then after you get away with it you just leave the robot in your garage under a tarp….?
Yep. And he was asked when he was at time of the crime, so he knows he on the suspect list. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Sometimes plot / criminals in this detective shows are just too easy .
Would be better of he built a figure like in Home Alone, easy to reassemble.
I just love Randy. He's SUCH an idiot
I just watched this episode on a website but there was no comment section so I came here just to go through the comments and have a ball😅
Gena Rowland was a knockout in her prime.
No Togo no drop it!!!🤣
Say, yes, Randy.
The FNaF movie would be very different if Randy was on duty.
0:38 the robot is in the white house now.

WHOOOOOO....DOGGY!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Randy was the best😂
Everyone talking about Randy and the robot, all I can think is " Monk kicked that dude's @$$"
Not one comment mentioning Gena Rowlands?
My favorite part is when monk jumped out did a backflip 360 no scope and Save the Day
Poor Togo, he just want to drum
Please take that man's badge
Say yes randy...lol...
Randy off screen is one of if not the best detective they got. But on screen. Oof lol
Togo Kamala? You gotta be kidding me. I knew that laugh wasn’t human.
"Get Off My Lawn."
Was that Steve Coogan as the egg-eating/drumming robot?
Oh,Randy.
How exactly did Randy make detective?
Omg so funny
Didn’t realize Lassie’s mom knows Monk 😂
Marge is played by Gena Rowlands. She never played "Lassie's mom". She acted with Tony Shalhoub in "Paulie", though.
I stand corrected 😊
why did stottlemeyer keep randy on the force?
Randy was the best in this episode
When you were a kid
I meant, when you were a kid?
Say yes Randy
Randy killed an unarmed robot 😂
I can't not see him has anybody but Buffalo Bill
BRUH THE END WUT?
How can monk fight someone?
He has to come into contact with thier body.
I’m assuming that his police training kicked in and overrode his OCD and germophobia. It can happen.
4 the record. Randy should have DEFINITELY been paid more.... Y? His family was probably teased and harassed on levels past normal teasing and harassment based on his ROLL in this episode ALONE. 😅😂😆👏👏👏😅😂😆....
Honestly I don't see how an egg-eating robot could plausibly play drums, his movements would be all wrong and too slow. Still, its a funny scene if you just accept the silliness.
There was a stereo playing too.
👍👍
That robot had more brain cells than Randy. They progressively made him dumber through the show.
I've been binge watching the show from the start, and you're right. Randy was smart enough in season one. Somewhere around the end of season two/beginning of season three is when his intelligence started to decline, and he became more of a bumbling side kick type.
I guess it was because they had a contract issue with the actress who played Sharona and fired her... the characters who stayed were altered slightly and Natalie joined the cast, of course.
It's funny, because at the end of season 5, Randy has a theory about a case - which was dismissed because it was silly - and later in the episode, Monk has a theory which was similar, but with one obvious difference that made it a less silly theory than Randy's, and Randy got in a major snit about the fact that it was HIS idea first! He literally said 'so when I say something, it's a punchline, and when he says it, he's a genius?'
Yes. That would be part of the premise, because the things Monk says are less silly! Even when farfetched, his theories are not ridiculous! :p
@@dmf1301 well said, in trying to make monk seem smarter they started to dumb down everyone around him. Even Leland has such a befuddled look in all the later cases and just stands on the side just waiting for monk magic. Dude you are a cop with 25+ years experience. Once he solved a case before monk and everyone including him were so bashful about it. 😂
@@sarabpreetkaur3360 Around the middle of the series (seasons 4, 5, 6) Leland actually started to develop better instincts. He started noticing things in a similar style to Monk. I'm partway into season 6 now, so I'll see how it goes through the rest of season 6 and 7/8.
Natalie developed pretty good instincts, too. She really learned from Monk, and started to notice small things in a similar manner as Monk - although obviously not as MANY small things, lol. :p
1:51
Togo Kamala for POTUS!😂
So John Keyes acted alone and set up Marge as a patsy, I see. But was he actually her son? They made it sound like that.
No, he wasn’t her son. Monk just wrongly accused him of being her son because Keyes had the same facial birthmark as her dead son, as well as not wanting to believe Marge *actual* liked Monk without any motive.
@@pikapika4355 Well thanks for clearing that up. Can be tough to tell without having all the details in these videos. Look forward to watching my DVD box set of this show. And after watching the new Monk movie, I hope that also gets a DVD release eventually as well.
Hey it’s the lady from The son of the mask
Here💞💞
Seriously, how on earth did randy make it to Lutentant?
Movie script
He actually does a good job when he takes over because the captain is sick. He has some wacky ideas and embarassing moments for comedic purposes but other than that I think he knows how to do his job.
Why was monk holding the gun without a napkin? Isn't he against germs?
When it's life or death things like germs means nothing.
Can we appreciate the fact Monk married Jan Levinson.

Ergo the Killer
Wow. People take this way too seriously. Complaining about Randy - none of the characters are realistic. They're not supposed to be. What they are supposed to be are human, relatable, and believable with their interpersonal relationships - which all of them, Randy included, are.
We’re not complaining that Randy is an unbelievable, unrealistic character; we complaining about the fact that he’s completely flanderized to the point of being, “Har har I’m a village idiot 🤡”.
Randy may have his dumb moments, but he’s still a more than competent, very reliable police cop-how else did Randy manage to make Lieutenant if he was smart and capable enough? Contrary to all the jokes made about police being stupid and that your average idiot can become a cop, it isn’t that easy for just anyone to get on the force and they *do* need to be smart enough.
Compared to Randy’s first appearance in the show, his character has further regressed to the point where he’s a literal joke that can never be taken seriously, and that even a rock is much more smarter than him.
Dude
5:20 what were the costume designers doing for Monk's suit? I cant imagine him ever wearing such an ill fitting jacket
To go kamala triggered me
