- Monk solves the case as people start to get some major deja vu...
Monk is streaming now on Peacock: pck.tv/3JuixBg
From "Mr. Monk And The Class Reunion" (Season 5, Episode 6): Katherine Rutherford walks out of her apartment and notices the elevator is out of order again. A man comes up behind and also notices. Being heavyset, it will take her a while to get down the stairs so she tells the man to go ahead of her, but instead he pushes her down the stairs, where she breaks her neck and dies. The killer breaks a necklace with beads to make it look like she tripped. The next day while checking out the scene, Stottlemeyer and Disher discover the beads. At the scene, they also discover a pin with the number '25' on it. Turns out that Katherine Rutherford is a nurse who worked at the free clinic in Berkeley where Monk also went to school.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

*"I'm* eccentric; he's up to something." Monk is the best!
I tell you, Monk may have quirks, but that man was creeping me out from the instant he insisted that Gertrude should be called ‘Trudy’ even though she expressed clearly that she preferred Gertrude!
People who completely dismiss other people’s clear feelings bother me far more than people with OCD and other quirks like Monk has! 😞
Dont know why I like that line so much.
For some reason, I especially loved this:
"Maybe he's eccentric."
"No, I'm eccentric. He's up to something."
The guy definitely got panicked for a second when Monk told him his profession.
lets invite this monk guy so that i can murder her, what are the chances that he is actually san francisco´s most famous detective adrian monk, which appears on the papers regularly solving impossible crimes? 1 in a million?
I knew he was up to something with that "Trudy" pull, my god he was desperate on that one.
I opened up this video while eating a tangerine. Isn't that funny? What are the odds of that? 1 in a million? 1 in a trillion maybe...
I looked out of my window and there was a man with a head like a tangerine
I dunno what the statistics are. However, you seem to be the only commenter making such a claim, so the statistics of that are one in however many people there are in the world right now.
@@chanchito4401 Did you ask Mr. Tangerine man to play a song for me?
😂😂😂😂😂
Very funny indeed. 👻
I love how quickly both Stottlemeyer AND Randy jumped on the opportunity to question Diane and her husband's whereabouts
Actual cop work: Look at ten thousand details, when something matches, poke around and talk to people. Repeat until you get real evidence. It's an example of realism in the show for the cops to see the matching jewellery and immediately want to speak to the owners.
"Here's what's about to happen."
4:59 Who finds their wife's suicide note and thinks, "Hey, I can kill her with this." ?
Only half of them.
A Monk villain.
Only about 10% of marriages are truly happy. Most are just roommates that share a bed. This was his chance to get out.
Who keeps their suicide note
@@Chugargonfan A Monk victim.
One of the most touching episodes, but possibly the single stupidest crime premise in the entire series. Police can tell how old paper and ink are to the nearest decade. Even if the "Adrian" wasn't a detective, he would've been questioned and told the cops that he was also with a Trudy a long time ago, and new "Trudy" when questioned would've told the cops that she never calls herself that.
Yeah, lets be honest here, the Monk show had a lot of really stupid crime premises.
The reason I loved the show was only because of the main character, the crime stuff was just bonus fluff really. :P
You explained exactly why the mystery was not a satisfying aha moment... it feels like the pieces were forced to fit and the story was written to make it work.
If the information in the note lined up with the victim's life events the police would never bother checking the age of the note. The main downfall is most paper would show some discoloration after 25 years.
@@jessecarliner7733 the other issue is medical background.... she is not showing signs of depression, then commits suicide?
At least bribe a doctor to prescribed her antidepressants for a few months.
@@Maninawig With previous depression Kyle would only have to say she had been braving it out. Police are going to go down the road of least resistance and are not going to question if it was a suicide unless there is something obviously off or someone raises doubts.
"You used to be captain cool?" "Oh hello freezer, remember me Adrian?" 🤣
“Ever get that feeling of déjà vu?”
repeatedly ...
This is intended to be read in Jonathan Frakes' voice, right?
"Do you believe in the power of a curse?"
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. Or someone you know.
I've been saying that about the deer in our back yard for months. It's like, every time I see them they are closer to the house.
@@vinnynj78😂😂😂
What if they've already got you, but you don't realize it? Nice. I just creeped myself out lol
These people take Monk on because they WANT to get caught.
It's an admittedly crazy theory but it explains everything!
I like the idea for the episode, but wouldn't a forensic analyst be able to tell the note and ink were used 25 years ago?
Very good point. Then I remembered that this show is old. And alot of technology maybe wasn't discovered or was just breaking through.
For instance, a letter now is silly. But some (cryptic) note on an Instagram post, seems more likely.
I doubt the police would expend any resources on an investigation unless they suspected foul play.
@@Ericwvb2 Realistically they would suspect foul play the moment they saw the note. A 25 year old hand written note on regular paper that has been folded up in a box in a basement for that much time is going to be obviously weathered. Not to mention it wouldn't be in "her handwriting" unless she was frozen in time for those 25 years, people change drastically over 25 years including how they write. It all comes down to its a TV show and they need to ignore some realism to make the story more interesting.
Assuming the police looked close enough to open an investigation at all, yes they can find out exactly how old it is. The cop that shows up at the scene is the one who has to notice it, or else it never gets that far.
Even better yet- wouldn't the date itself give away the letter? Buddy ol' pal really didn't think that one through (unless he was planning on somehow forging the letter, but he would've gotten caught easily with that one as well).
One of the best shows on tv! I think all of us I have a little Monk inside!
Gay!!!

@@suleika273 Erroneous I love Homo Sapiens !!! So you’re wrong!!!

4:42 - Natalie has strappy heels; 5:28 - she has regular pumps. When did she have time to change shoes?
You do not work for Adrian Monk without being prepared to go from on the town to on the chase in a moments notice
Right before she left my room she changed them
The continuity responsible was ill. Bad cold. 😉
When the scene was shot the 3rd or 20th time, and someone said to change shoes, of course. No show is ever shot in time sequence (nor is any movie, just for that info). Everyone knows that....almost everyone....
@@jb6712 I guess Monk should've been watching the footage after the shots 😉
If any of u have your old sucide note lying around, burn it.
M Night Shyamalan: What a twist!
Love that Monk’s weird superpower of very sensitive skin helped save the day.😊 (I’m also glad that’s how he got Trudy’s number 😉).
I loved this show. Great main character.
The supporting cast are perfect as well. The Captain. Randy. Okay not so crazy about Sharona, but Natalie is gorgeous 🥰🥰🥰
Monk kept me going during some hard times
The place where Monk and Trudy Met. 0:50 he knows something 1:00 They both have the same name just said
Man I never watched this show now I’m intrigued
I recommend it. Tastes differ, but I thought it was great.
(Not at all scientifically, legally, or forensicly accurate of course.)
The husband found suicidal letters written by his wife ( the wife had written them while in college ) her husband is trying to recreate the events/moments of what was written in the letters before killing her to make it look like she committed suicide
At the start of the episode he killed the nurse who his wife had spoken because she had known about the letters and would've noticed they were the same ones written years before
Who comes up with this stuff? The writers are genius!
Yeah, although anyone would be able to tell probably that the note wasn't written recently, if it's 25 years old.
So cool man
Way to go captain cool :)
I'm probably only one but I remember this actress playing Diane was on a sitcom called According to Jim as the wacky neighbor and she had a wacky husband it's hard and weird to watch her in a character not as silly as she was on that show
She was in 'Dead Like Me' also, she was very believable in that show.
@@morganrasmussen5071loved that show? Totally related to George.
Not impossible. I ran into a cat that had the same fur color and name as my wifes recently deceased cat. It weirded me and the homeowner out.
But not impossible
The only case where husband wanted to murder his wife... just because he could.
No other motivation.
He does have an ultimate super motivation.
To quit his job at his wife's company
There's a scene where he makes a call to some unknown woman in the episode I believe, that's probably his ho on the side.
Of course thats not the motivation, thats whats enabling him but im sure he has real reasons.
@@MaximaToluene haha yes I was just kidding. One of the comment above makes it clear. The husband did call someone else, probably a lover.
@@iganpparamarta8813 sorry i was replying to op
"Kyle" gives off some serious Justin McElroy / Richard Stink vibes.
Hope they got to the scene in time….😮

There was a bandit who stole a ruby. It was the size of a tangerine. What are the odds of that? One in an million, one in a trillion.
Turns out the bandit was throwing them away
ingenious
Natalie being creepy at 3:12

@@Grinsbert93 You have no conception of how rare that is. ITS MILLIONS TO ONE!
I never saw that episode does anyone know what happened
Remind me, did they ever give a reason for *why* he was trying to kill her other than just "Oh, hey, her old suicide note. I can recreate this!" or did they just skip over that for the weird premise?
Answer"
We don't have insurance and so we are showing our house.
OK?
He was seeing another girl.
like glen/tom manipulating shift change...
I'm Open!!
It puts the lotion on the skin
669 nice
Anyone else see an off brand Brad Pitt?
So he just killed a nurse without leaving any clues? Surely he could have done the same to his wife without all this sharade. They tried really hard to be original to the point of ridiculous. That's why i love the show.
Charade. "C," not 's.'
@@jb6712 thanks
I mean police are going to look a lot harder at a victim's husband than at a victim's old friend's husband. There's no connection between him and the nurse.
The dumber part of the plot is thinking the police won't notice a letter is 25 years old.
@@TheNeilBlackThat depends...
why does his assistant do nothing but sit around gaslighting monk when he always ends up correct?
She's not gaslighting him, she's asking him questions so that he can convince her and make sure his logic is sound. "Why would anybody lie about a dog's name?" She's the Watson to his Sherlock. Plus, he's been incorrect many times. Not usually about murder investigations, but about plenty of other things.
Sharona gaslighted him.
@@voltjmgaming2119 I don't think any of you know what gaslighting means...
@godminnette2 Oh, I know what it means
This is very creepy.
So weurd heaf him talk about odd coincidences when more than half os his cases were like that. He even caught a killer that was killing women with the same name as the daughter of his assistent.
I will say anyone even without expertise on forensics will be able to tell a 25-year-old note is old. What am I missing?
So Monk has all of these former female friends with bad husbands and boyfriends and they still wouldnt hook up with him
They probably don't want to deal with his OCDs.
@@machoman1016 haha
this was a fantastic show that i binge watched from start to finish. but imo this was one of the dumbest plots ever
I enjoy this kind of programming. But, has anyone stopped to consider that crime dramas can be viewed as training films for the mentally unstable?
But they get caught
That would be a good thing considering the plans in these shows are completely terrible
This is reaching. Who writes this stuff?
weakest episode if im being honest. love the show though
The premise is a bit non-believable, but I found it a thoroughly entertaining episode.
Think, they wanted to light up his past.
It's been said many hundreds of times that when someone uses the phrases "If I'm being honest," or "If I can be honest with you," 99 times out a hundred, they are NOT honest at all.
Something to think about before using it again.
@@jb6712 When I ask a girl out for a second date, they often say "Can I be honest?" My reply is usually "I wish you wouldn't."
