3 Year Review: Dewalt DW735 Planer - Is It Worth It?

- This is my honest review on the Dewalt DW735 Planer that I have owned now for 3 years. In this video I will show you the good and the bad, as well as the important specs and features in my opinion. I will also show you how easy it is to change the blades, along with a budget dust collection option for this planer. There are a lot of lunchbox planers out there to choose from, such as the Bauer, Ridgid, Craftsman, Ryobi, Grizzly, and more, which can make for a tough decision. Hopefully this video will help you in your research.

One of the most helpful, useful, product reviews I've seen on any product. Thank you!
Thank you! I am glad that you enjoyed and I appreciate the feedback. I am still happy with the planer.
GR8 Review video. I am looking at buying this model and appreciate the time & effort you put into this video. Cheers from Western Australia
Thanks for bringing up the "type" difference man, that's a topic that I was ignorant to until I started hearing about the differences in the types for the DWS780 (miter saw) I didn't know I needed to look out for the same on this planer.
Yes I found this out when I wanted to replace the base plate. Was pretty surprised when it started warping on me and separating from the base - especially because I don't abuse the planer.
I just bought this planer today (my very first). I am still learning the finer points of using it, but those pieces of cupped scrap wood that I have given a "test drive". The outcome was astonishing to say the least. It's heavy, it's loud but it works! i will recomend it to anybody.
I agree, its a great planer!
Thanks for the excellent video! I just today received my 735x and it’s a Type 1, so now I need to know to be on the lookout for problems with the base plate. I appreciate you making this very helpful video.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video. Its a great planer, congrats on your purchase!
Thank you. Nice review, nice style, and nicely efficient editing.
I am glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for your kind comment!
A lot of retailers throw in the stand with the X version as well as part of the bundle. I assembled it for my dad and it's solid.
Thats awesome!
Very helpful am seriously considering looking to get one these replace my 3rd hand lunch box plainer. Great video 👍🏴
I've really enjoyed this planer. I think its a great step up from the lunch box style.
Very good info, thanks!
I have one of these and everything he said is 100% accurate.
Great review
Thanks, I still own it and think it is a great planer for the money
Great review!
Thanks!
I really liked your review. It help me decide to purchase a dewalt 735x (the model 12)
Thanks I am glad that it helped!

Great video, thanks mate!
I am glad you enjoyed thanks!
I used to have this planer but I got rid of it as the blades were not good at all. This was a fantastic piece of kit with many things going for it though it is as tough as the weakest link- that being the blades. I live in New Zealand and couldn't find any better blades (only m2 laminated steel planer knives were available) and would recommend to anyone thinking about buying this tool to get some really high quality compatible planer knives. This was roughly 2-3 years ago so I do not know what the blades are like now but I would highly recommend those who are thinking of buying any tool to do research.
Thanks for sharing!
This is the best planer for small work at home. very nice product
I haven't owned any others to compare it to, but I can say that it has been absolutely great to own. Perfect for the hobbyist.
Great video!
Thank you!
Hi very nice presentation and I really enjoyed it. I have two questions. 1- I do not have any available space for a planer in my garage and I live in Southern California by the beach. I was wondering if I put my planer on a cart with wheels , make a plywood cover for the cart with five sides and put the cover on the top of the cart and in addition put a cover like barbecue cover over it , would it be protected from rust ? 2- Can I run 2X4 vertically through planer ? I would appreciate your input. Thanks.
These just dropped to $488 on Am zon, seems like a great value
If you can find them right now for under $700 it's a good deal
I recently bought this planer. The price for the 735 planer, infeed and outfeed tables and a set of blades purchased separately was $80 less than the 735X.
Congrats on the purchase, its a great planer!
I just purchased the 735x with the outfeed tables, extra blades and the bonus stand for $584 with the 10% off coupon Home Depot gives on top of the special buy of the day sale.
@@WiLL02724 that is awesome!
Interesting. Mine is a type 11. -XE. Came with a set of extra blades but no feed in trays or stand. Power switch is different.
That is interesting!
Hi contacted you five months ago and I asked some questions and based on your comments I went ahead and purchased one. Now I have another question.. Let’s say I have three pieces of 2X4 and each one them is 2-7/16 , 2-3/8, and 2-5/16 how do I make all three of them being 2-5/16 without manually measuring them. I appreciate your input. Thanks
I would set the height on the Guage to 2 3/8, and plane the 2 7/16 down. Then set the Guage to 2 5/16 and plane both 2 3/8 boards down to 2 5/16
I have a question do you have to level the roller case to the table?? Or does is it set permanent when it’s made at the factory?
The only leveling adjustments that I have made is leveling the extension beds to the base.
@@UpNorthHandyman thank you
👍
Yours is a type 1 made in Taiwan. So is the type 12 made in china the better one, or is the type 12 made in Taiwan as well?
