But wish it was mentioned someplace in the movie (unless I missed it, but seeing comments below probably not) what Axone is made of. It did get me curious enough to google it and learn more but without that curiosity anyone watching the movie would continue to believe( "arrey, wahan ke log kya kuch nahin kha daalte") and that would perpetuate the bias that already exists. Hoping to see more such movies from all parts of our country but especially the Northeast.

Almost every Oriental cuisine will have a fermented soyabean or fish ingredient which is a probiotic diet much alike the curd and cheese eaten in many other cuisines. There is no need to make a great issue out of food habits as is happening in some countries including India...this just shows that most of the people have not widely travelled or have mingled very less with the rest of the world. No wonder to some people the smell of cheese processed in very traditional way in some European countries are just unbearable. It's all about taste adaptation and not about cultural alienation based on food habit as is happening here.

@@see2saw It is a combination of two words Axo-ne, Axo which means "aroma" or "smell" and the word ne or nhe which means "deep" or "strong". So it may literally mean as "deep Smell" or "strong smell".... Axone is prepared by picking and cleaning the soyabeans well in fresh water, and then boiling them until they are soft, but still whole. The excess water is drained and the soybeans are placed into a pot or degchi and put either out in the sun or next to the fire to warm and ferment. Nagamese fermented soybean product... First it smell strong later it taste great...

No. For someone not used to it, the smell is extremely repulsive while being cooked. Doesn't smell that bad while eating but it is an acquired taste and will taste terrible for first few times. It doesn't smell bad to you because you are used to it.

In fact Nepalese people eat similar kind of food called "kinima". It's prepared by fermenting soyabeans. It's very delicious and healthy as it contains probiotics.

I have experienced the same reaction from our pg aunty n floormate.. I also lied smtimes but when i get tired n angry i replied them "haven't you guys watch any discovery Channel or nattional geography ..dont you know diversity of food..evn your masala smell like shocks but we didn't complain why u complain only when i cook " 😂😂 this really work.. Smtimes dissing them using knowledge related like this works. It mk them feel very uneducated and they will start portraying them more open minded about food n culture
