Just an observation. Hello Rich! Excellent video! Really great teaching and very clear step by step explanations of the entire procedure. Compliments to the photographer as well … it followed your skillful hands and steps almost like the viewing was from your eyes :-) Most videos I watch don’t get up that close. Coupled with your knowledge, skills and clear reasons for why and where you are taking each particular step, made me want to be the flashlight holder. 😉 My son’s a mechanic in SC … for the last few years he’s been in a VW shop. Your video helped enough to allow me to make a call to him unrelated to a mechanical question I have about why I only was able to drive 90 miles on a full tank of gas 🤔 and my engine had turned repeatedly on cold starts. Now we can talk about my granddaughter :-).
My hat’s off to one very gifted, smart, teacher, who freely took the time to share their awesome talents with others … I’m confident your customers are happy you’re their mechanic! All the best with your continued career. Thanks for the awesome video. Subscribed now so hope to catch another episode. 👍

This is a great video. I had a sudden severe leak from the top of my tank and I suspected the metal lines were rusted. I was able to get a endoscope camera up above the tank and verified a rusted split fuel line. After viewing your video, I was able to easily remove the fuel tank and fix the problem. I ended up replacing the evap lines on my fuel tank as well, since the metal fuel lines broke inside the plastic connectors. I referred back to this video a couple times to make sure I had things oriented properly during reassembly. Just a quick note on the evap line set... The evap lines come in a huge box. Rock auto wanted $60 to ship the lines set. Amazon end up being much cheaper since shipping was free with Prime. Thanks again for a great video.

Do the evap and fuel lines come together if so what is the GM Part number for them? Thanks in advance!

GREAT video, just finished dropping the tank on my denali. Only difference is the denali fuel pump has three lines out with the evap line connecting directly to the fuel pump versus the back of the tank. The only thing I would recommend adding is blowing out all the evap lines from both directions as carbon builds up in the lines as the evap cannister's filter deteriorates. Remember do it from both directions and make sure the air pressure coming out both sides is the same in force as the air coming directly out your air pump. That's the only way you can ensure their is no blockage in the lines. Also blow out the line from the purge valve under the engine to the right front corner of the gas tank that you disconnect when dropping the tank. I recommend blowing both directions as well. The reason for this is that once the carbon backs up in the lines, it will cause gas the high evap check engine code and you won't be able to pump gas continuously as the gas station pump will constantly shut off. This is just good preventative maintenance anytime you drop the tank. Also, Amazon sells a $10 tool for disconnecting these fuel and evap lines that makes the job even more a breeze. That front right fuel rail line and that rear evap line were both pains for me the first time I dropped a fuel tank. That little tool makes life a lot easier. Nevertheless great video.

Man, that's one heck of a job... I'm sure it took quite awhile.
I have a somewhat different problem. I recently started smelling gas in my 2013 GMC Yukon (almost identical to Tahoe), but there is no gas leaking down anywhere... I only smell it when driving and/or idling with the driver's window down. No gas on the road or anywhere around the engine. And I basically only smell it somewhere around the driver and passenger door behind it. There doesn't seem to be any gas smell in the back at the hatch... open or closed, or on the passenger side.
Some guy told me that it "definitely needs a complete gas tank and line replacement." Of course he told me this without actually looking at it. He said, "Experience tells him it all must be replaced and will probably cost me between $3,000.00 - $4,000.00 or more... if not "A LOT MORE". Funny that he claims to know exactly what's wrong without actually seeing under there, but has no clue what it will actually end up costing... not even a ball park figure, again, especially since he claims to already know what's wrong and claims he has done it so many times.
Another mechanic said he would have to actually see the top of the tank and that area before assured diagnosis, which sounds a little more realistic and trustworthy to me. He said if the tank, fuel pump and lines needed replacing it would cost around $1,800.00, parts and labor... IF, he can even find a tank these days. He also said if it weren't too rusty the tank may not need replacing at all.
I don't know... this [video] repair looked pretty rusty around the rim of that tank opening where the ring turns and connects... like those clips that hold the ring were rusted pretty badly. I wonder how long your repair will last before those prongs the ring turns into rusts and will no longer support it without replacing the tank also. Why am I asking? Because if I have that problem I'm wondering if it is even worth repairing at all considering the age of my vehicle. I've owned lots of cars... GM vehicles seem to rust underneath a lot faster than other brands. Am I right, or wrong?
I hate not being a mechanic, and not having the proper tools, facilities, let alone the knowledge, at times like these. Parts and labor for autos have skyrocketed the last few years it would seem... especially at dealerships.
I know this vid is older, but thanks for the info... great vid! And thanks ahead of time for a reply if you are still able or monitoring this channel.

I had to replace fuel pump on my 07 Tahoe 2 years ago and Now have to replace it again for the same problem ( Rusted ) What will prevent this from happening ? I was shocked to see how the pump sat down in the top of the tank where water sits and causes a repeated occurrence

Not driving through nasty conditions, buying an oe pump the main issue with the design is the valley that the pump sits in on top of the tank it literally holds every spec of dirt that hits the top of it it's basically a terrible design flaw

    • @DadYouNeverHad

Corrosion on the top of the assembly, nearly certainly the metal tubes which connect to the fuel lines.
