    Beautiful comparison! I love how you crossed the cherry stems. I think I’ll do this in my sketchbook. Watercolor pencils look much easier and the color looks brighter but the wax pencils look more realistic like you mentioned. I love watercolor pencils though so I’ll probably go that route.

    In the art world,watercolor pencils or colored pencils,to me they're almost the same,except when you make a drawing say a Seascape or a landscape, I do have my choice,watercolor pencils brings it to life,and the colored pencils puts down a beautiful deep rich color, which they both do.I love them both.
    "Sitting under a big shade tree looking out before you,a beautiful river landscape,I got my watercolor pencils, water and brushes and a palette and my journal,someone else comes up with the same tools,"hey",let's paint together and make the world a beautiful place." Lindsay,your the best there is,thank you for sharing this with us.❤👍😃🌄🌹

    Dear Lindsay, I`d like to congratulate you on your wonderful commenting on both procedures. I`ve always loved to work with wax colored pencils but found it oftentimes very, very timeconsuming. Your demonstration proves me right. I really couldn`t say which result I like better. Each one has its charm and I find both of them fabulous. Thank you very much for all your videos. You are such a treasure. Of course, I subscribed to other art and crafting channels too ( and I appreciate every one of them very much) but if I had to choose JUST ONE it would Always Be Yours!! I could easily live without the others (and I hope none of them will read this) but It would be very difficult for me to live without your creativity and wonderful (aka Full of Wonder) energy :) Thank You! God bless you and your family! Love, Josi

    Thank you!!! Great video & you really nailed a lot of great points and I myself totally agree with using both in a given project. I think a lot of folks get stuck in the either or, like they want to check a box or are scared to step out of it, I say the best way is to just build your own box and watch how fun discovering the way the process shows you how to use each medium in concert. Thanks again ☕☕ Cheers

    This was a GREAT IDEA for a video. Thanks so much! You did such a clear and expert job of explaining two tasks at once! I like the Prismacolor pencils, especially when I use a blender to blend the layers together, and I have had to get used to my Derwent Inktense pencils because the color is sooooo vibrant! I like your idea of using less expensive pencils for practice, and am certainly going to start doing that! These quality art supplies have become so expensive! Thanks again for all of your great videos. I really appreciate you, Lindsay...

    I like the watercolor cherries better. I have the same Pagos sets, as well as a small 24 pencil Cezanne set of both regular and watercolor pencils. I do like seeing the differences between the two types when the colors are supposedly the same and how they look once the watercolor pencils have dried. I enjoyed this as not only are you showing the differences you are explaining how to draw them in the first place. That is an area where I really need to learn. I have been given a lot of art supplies and from what I have tried so far, I like the watercolor pencils and I tried out some HIMI semi-moist watercolors yesterday in prepping some things to use with Christmas cards that I thought was interesting as I have trouble trying to get the right amount of water to get the regular watercolor paint usable. With these as long as you have a wet/damp brush you can pick up the color without adding any to the paint in the box. I felt I had more control and that is also what I like about colored pencils whether wax or watercolor and that is more control so I'm not sloping paint all over the place. Thank you.

    Definitely love the side by side comparisons Lindsay! Alot of fun to watch...it would be cool to watch you do a side by side comparison of watercolor brands...Like the same picture done side by side with Qor (a high water dispersion watercolor paint) on one side and Mission Gold (a low water dispersion paint) on the other side. OR one color monochromatic pieces done side by side with same color and pigment but different brands, so the viewer can compare and ultimately decide which version/brand of that pigment/color they like best---that would be such a fantastic series......O damn see my condition is taking over again, I swear Im getting help. Again im sorry for the unsolicited advice. I just have so many ideas...lol...sorry. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I learn so much from you, thank you for that. Much love, take care.😁♥️

    They’re both lovely, I think I prefer the stems on the water soluble pencils but, that apart, I them both. When I’m spending time on a pencil project, intend to do the initial lay down in water soluble pencil, then finish with wax pencil as I tend to have difficulty not leaving brush strokes in the former, whereas yours looks really smooth. The only exception is Pastelmat as that doesn’t seem to like water soluble pencil (not my attempts, anyway) or if the paper is too lightweight. Thanks for the comparison, I enjoyed watching and listening to the narrative.

    I think these are supposed to work together, rather than set against each other and fight as to which one is more vibrant. First you lay down the watercolors, and then you do the outlines with the equivalent colors in pencil for lines (that's why they have the exact same colors in both sets).

    The layering with colorored pencil is not quite adhd proof one noticed :P wich is kindof ironic given my liking for sennelier paints. I do like how prisma's cover; but that does have the downfall that layering can be a bit of an issue. I like my prima set of 48 for fun sketching or fast accents but layering wise I always endup grabbing my poly's for. Due to its harder led it is more slow wearing than the prisma's. I have the premier set of 48; no sharpening or breaking issues yet btw. Wich I did not expect given the concern I saw people had on them.

    The difference in mood is very different isn’t it? Whereas is would use the ones in watercolour in a logo for food, I’d prefer the colour pencils in logos for other items like furniture, cookware etc. (Non edibles!). I find the watercolour cherries a bit more cartoonish, emotional and enticing. The coloured penciled one more descriptive and stately. If I were “Fruitoftheloom”, I’d commission you to redo their logo. I find that their most recent version of it does not fit what they are selling!!😂

    How can I tell what pencils are wax, regular or oil?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  Před 3 lety

      Usually they say on the tin or box, that said "regular" colored pencils contain a blend of wax and oil and the proportion determs if it is more oil or wax. Both behave very similarly as opposed to watercolor pencils.

      Similar, both are water resistant but oil based have a higher percentage of oil to wax in the core
