I never tire of hearing this tune. And every time I hear it, I think "What *more* could Derek Trucks add to an already immaculate song?". And every time he surprises me. It proceeds from unease and quiet resignation through to hope and finally triumph and peaceful contentment. A testament to a brilliant artist who can tell a story simply by moving a pill-bottle around.
At one of the many Mountain Jam festivals I attended over the years , I'll never forget the beautiful solo Derek constructed for "Midnight in Harlem" , so stunning it literally had me in tears . There used to be a cell phone clip of that performance on youtube but it's long been deleted .
@@kenransom560 The good news is that there will probably be another one with the same impact, and another, and another.... We won't know exactly *when* but we can have confidence it'll happen.
Found this by accident on CZcams. First time I've heard the song or the band. I must have listened to it about 8 times, and I'm going to listen again after typing this. It's already one of my all time favourites. I'm glad I found this version first. Outstanding. Music at it's very best.
Then you are in for quite a treat and journey, sir. Run don’t walk and go see them wherever you can - best band in the world for some time now. This is a sublime version of this song but there are many; check out the Outlaw Music Fest, Camden, NJ, 2018 - it’s on here. This is a stripped down version of the band this year, and they are absolutely killing it. Check their site - they have a lot of upcoming dates and if they’re close to your area, do not miss it!
Love this long intro to the classic. Susan looks so thoughtful through it. And then it begins! And oh man, their keyboardist has the touch, alongside Derek, that goes so well with Susan’s vocals!
Great band wow ...you can't see singers like these in Europe , nice job playing arragements on guitar as well ... you miss watching live bands like these ones after all these shitty days we live
Awesome night at the best little venue on the east coast! What a great way to restart live music! Tears in my eyes as soon as they started. About half way through the opener Don't Drift Away, Susan growled her way up to her first big note of the night and the bass player gave Derek a look like "Oh its ON tonight!"
have to agree w Norris , one of your best songs in my opinion, get your shots! live music is back! see ya'll at NOJF to watch two of the greatest slide players on the planet, Derek trucks and Sonny Landreth both scheduled for OCT 15, it may not be a crossroads festival but WOW what a lineup this year in the crescent city..
TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND CARRIES ON LEGACY OF GREAT AMERICAN BANDS BY PEDRO ACOSTA - JANUARY 27, 2020 "The Tedeschi Trucks Band is a twelve member super group that was created by guitarist Derek Trucks and singer-songwriter Susan Tedeschi about 10 years ago." Source: Loud Global Media
Did anyone see the show at the Red Rocks on 7/31? We had tickets for the 7/30 show and only got to hear about 5-6 songs. Did they play this??? SO SAD to miss a lot of it.
Great band , good music , no bulshit , but Dereck is kind of boring to watch , so is Eric Clapton , but great musicians . Susan is the personality of the band .
It’s great except for the first 2.5 minutes or so. Derek doing his Jeff Beck imitation. No melody. Not a song. Wasted time making strange noises with a guitar or the amp or volume control or gain. By the number one guitar talent in the world. In the best band currently touring, period. My favorite band. SMH. Will he follow the talented Jeff Beck and Paul Gilbert into a has been? I don’t care how much talent you have making unusual guitar sounds. I just want to hear good songs. And I don’t want to hear extended solos on base, organ, clarinet, or drums. Unless it follows the melody. Otherwise it is filler also. Just play the songs we all love. I can only speak for myself, but I feel songs are what most of us pay to hear.
What exactly did you pay to watch this performance you don't like? It is called an intro. If you don't understand it you might wanna try to. Or just play the CD. Or go bowling. Or whatever. And fyi Jeff Beck still makes albums and performs all over the globe.
Some of us like music for music's sake. We don't need a song to hang its hat on. And lots of times songs get it in the way of the music. I suggest you stay away from classical and jazz musics. Most of the world's indigenous musics as well. And definitely avoid those non idiomatic improvisors from around the world, you'll burst a blood vessel.
It's called a Raga, you should look it up, it's a form of Indian music, often done with sitar and he's done it live with this song since TTB became a thing, and in many, many incantations of his previous bands. Just because you listen to 4/4 western rock doesn't mean what he's doing isn't musical. "Just play the songs" is the reason most bands don't last, do you know how boring it is as a musician to pump out the exact same 3-4 minute versions of songs every night?? Musicians play because we express ourselves that way, and the way to keep it fresh is to change it up. Music is a conversation, think of it as walking into your job and having literally the exact same conversation with your co-workers every. single. day. You'd hate your job so damned fast. Derek makes music for people with attention spans. I feel anyone going to see Derek at this point in his life, given his long history of doing exactly this, are paying to witness exquisite musicianship and be taken on a journey that can be vastly different from night to night. My $0.02 anyway.

One of Rock and Roll’s most beautiful songs in the last 15 years.. it’s their anthem..
No es rock and roll, es soul.
This song is 50 years old...I'm sure that's what you meant to say :)

The song that introduced me to the band, different class, and I'm sure Susan was thinking about Kofi during that.
