How to Backup & Play PS3 Games with multiMAN for Jailbroken/HEN PS3s | FTP, USB, 4GB+ File Splitting

- This tutorial aims to show you how to easily take your disc based PS3 games and back them up using multiMAN. This also covers several other methods of transferring and playing PS3 games utilizing FTP and USB storage. FTP can be used to easily transfer games to and from your PS3's internal hard drive, USB however will require a bit more prep work. I will only be covering FAT32 formatted USB drives for this tutorial, unfortunately some PS3 games contain files larger than 4 GB which go above FAT32's file size limitation. Due to that, I also show you how to split up any problematic files thanks to PS3Splitter. Keep in mind that any split files on your USB drive will need to be copied over to your internal drive, so be sure you have free space on your internal drive as well if you're playing a split game from your USB drive!
This tutorial assumes you already have a console with CFW or PS3HEN installed. If you are looking to perform either modification on your console, scroll down further to find links to both a jailbreak tutorial as well as a PS3HEN tutorial here on the channel! If you would like to use another game manager such as IRISMan or ManaGunZ, you're welcome to do so, but you will have to adapt this tutorial's steps to the alternative game manager you choose to use your own.

I normally do not care for video tutorials but you made jailbreaking my PS3 effortless and far easier to understand than any text guide that I found.

your ps3 CFW jailbreak guide is awesome, i just made some bullet points on my phone and repeated all the steps and voila.
Worked alright on my PS3 Slim with PS3HEN. Was able to backup, play from HDD, USB, and transfer from/to FTP.
Some things to note, though:
1) If you're copying many discs from FTP that may take several hours to complete, make sure that console won't be turned off by webMAN during the process. webMAN has a separate setting for turning off (after 60 minutes by default) in its own interface, in addition to the power save settings in original XMB.
2) FTP connection might be unstable when copying large files or deep paths (like 5-6 subfolders) -- downloads might be aborted on FTP side. Manually going to these deep subfolders and downloading their contents separately worked for me.
3) Be careful when deleting games from internal HDD, either with FTP or from the webMAN interface. For me, it is lagging VERY heavy, I even had to restart the console several times. The best way to delete a game is again going to FTP, walking through all the deep subfolders manually and removing contents folder-by-folder. If you request to delete the root game folder from FTP, or delete the game from webMAN menu, the console begins lagging so hard that might even completely stop responding. Just note that this might happen.

2 years later but i couldnt get winscp to work without erroring out, was transfering TLOU so the big file was probably what did it. But filezilla worked like a charm. for people looking at this video in the future.

Went surprisingly well for me too, in my case with the jailbreak I only ran into two minor road bumps, one of which was my USB stick not being recognized by the PS3 which I eventually got fixed, and having to find REBUG on a web archive because the official site seems to be down.

I was planning to click on the option to restore file system. I saw some videos that solved this kind of issues.
Thats why it is good to always watch videos about something even if you already know all the tricks and everything shown in the tutorial, there is always something new to learn. I didn't know when you execute a game that has been splitted, thedata being processed and copied to internal HDD is actually rebuilding the splitted files. If you decide to copy your game from USB to HDD it will do the process once as well, after the process is done, if the files are not deleted automatically, go to the game folder and delete the splitted files, or use the clear cache game as you showed too.

Another amazing video. I found that if you use IRISMan, you can get around that Fat32 limitation really easy since IRISMan is easy to install, which means you don't have to split games. I know it's not in the video though.
Yep! IRISMAN supports NTFS to my knowledge, you can also use NTFS on multiMAN as well with a few extra steps in preparation. Joonie also just patched all the backup loaders recently to use NTFS drives on HEN!

Great tutorial as usual :D Btw, might be worth mentioning that you can do the same process for PS1/PS2 games through multiMAN, when inserting the physical disc to the console. Kinda blew my mind when I inserted a PS2 disc, into a FAT console that originally does not have PS2 backward compatibility. Usually, when you're in the PS3 dashboard it just gives an error, saying the system is not compatible with the PS2 media.
How do i load disc 2 on ps1 games?
Was disappointed when HEN failed to initialize for installation. But After the second restart it worked like a charm and I am now enjoying this sweet machine along with my PS4 pro...Now I have no life..... :)
Hen is really only for users that have a PS3 that does not directly support CFW.
While HEN does work ALL jail breakable models, CFW (Rebug etc) only runs on certain models. Hen is clunky and sometimes fails to initialize, where as CFW, the exploit is built in to the custom firmware.
I have moved both of my CECH2002A's from HEN over to CFW now, which is MUCH smoother, none of that 'Enable Hen' bullshit.

Side note you can also copy those files to an hdd go into the GAMES folder located in your hdd and paste it there from a USB or hdd external drive.
So you don't have to copy it like shown it the video? Because it keeps aborting every single game i try to copy

Hey! Tip Here: Is multiman not recognizing a disc? Try this!
The XMB could detect and launch my Silent Hill Homecoming BLUS30169 fine, Multiman couldn't for some reason? So I inserted Little Big Planet, when Multiman created the disc's icon, I ejected it, then inserted Silent Hill. From there, the icon was still Little Big Planet, but I started the copy/iso anyway. It ripped the game totally fine. Maybe it was just my drive/disc/time of day? but that's the way I solved it. Hope this helps those who've had the same problem... It was a rare one for me!
Someone Special it works but it doesn't, it installs the game but I can't play it through the hard drive because it stills thinks it's the game I originally had in the disk tray and instead gives me an error. MrMario2011, if you have read this comment, *please* make a tutorial on how to fix this, this may work for some consoles but it hasn't worked for me. I have looked practically everyone for a solution for this. Nothing has worked.
Someone Special also... on the subject of my previous comment, I decided to load up multiman without a disk in the tray, once on multiman, I put my cod 4 disk in and it showed up. Don't know if this was a fluke but it is worth a try

You need to updated this tutorial. Mutiman allows to queue the split files, create a single .pkg file which can be installed on either the internal drive or attached USB FAT32 drive. Not sure what you mean by having have on the internal and the other half on the USB drive.
How do I do this? I can't even get the split file games to show up.
I would like to ask you, can u make a vid showing how to convert Ps3 Games to .pkg and how to generate .rap files? Also how to make them into .iso's? I had to disable all sleep settings for ftp to work. The settings in normal xmb and MM. Filezilla would fail even when screen would dim...
When you say wired network does it mean LAN?
@@jayrevangelio4885 LAN is Local Area Network. Wireless and wired are apart of your LAN. Wired just meens you're using an ethernet cable to connect to the Internet instead of wireless.

Fix === if your game backs up but loops at start up when loading from HDD try and delete game utility not your games saves just utility the stuff that installs when you first use a game. Then load the iso and install the game and it should work the problem I was having was GTA episodes from liberty kept looping at the start up screen the music changed and the screen got darker as if the console knew is shouldn't play it . I had tried everything swapping e boots bins backing up to an external HDD but it only worked when I deleted the game utility 300mb -2gb and reinstalled the game when loading from HDD . It was weird as GTA v worked fine even though its game utility was already on the consoles HDD from the disc Install but it worked after the first rip and don't worry game utility isn't game saves for anyone who comes across this weird problem . sometimes multiman doesnt transfer the entire file not sure why or how to fix. GOWA is like 43GB and the copy screen will say 23gb
U sure your flash drive has enough storage?
If anybody has issues with their external FAT32 drive not being seen, try deleting it’s partitions and converting it to MBR in Windows (lookup MBR vs GPT). Then format as NTFS, and *then* format it as FAT32 via your preferred application.

I’ve come across a snag while trying to boot a game from a usb Drive after having split one larger file into 5 pieces.
“You cannot launch games with split big files!
Transfer the game to internal HDD and try again or use XMMB mode to launch the title”
I transferred it to the internal HDD and it works fine but takes up a LOT of storage space.
Any workaround to still get it to play from usb?

@@Layer7s Never mind I got it. I just installed it as iso. Plays perfectly fine now.
I noticed that games that are copied to the hdd are a bit louder than using the actual disk, but no problems so far otherwise (just copied KH 1.5 remix). Also, I noticed there's a lot of settings you can apply such as internal or external. Is there a link you could provide that goes a bit more in depth about that?
A side note: I tried to split a game(bo3) before I saw this video. I had tried everything, splitting it, transfering it via many ftp servers. Finally I installed Irishman press start went to file manager found my USB that I formated in NTFS it detected it, I copied my game to packages folder (and the rif file all signed with ps3 resigner) and then I got to han toolbox install packages and then from hard drive. So that's the method if you have a ps3 hen on 4.84.2 and nothing seems to work in order of transferring games
Hey Mr Mario, love the video and I've HENed my old super slim PS3. I have a problem with the FTP in Multiman. I already had some folder games on my PC which are not file split. When I FTP them over to the PS3 Multiman splits the big files even though the target folder is GAMES on hdd0. Split files don't work and the game starts but freezes. Is there a bug in the Multiman FTP server?

Great tutorial man, not sure if you'll still see this, but is it normal for some games to not display in HD?
I loaded a few backups and most of them play fine, but for some reason a few look muddy and are probably in 480p.
Some demanding games only display at 720p max.
Sometimes even lower like GTA4, Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty,.. the ps3 just cannot handle it, so that is normal.
If your game disc doesn't appear when you first enter multiman scroll to the multiman icon at the far left and select (switch to multiMAN mode) it worked for me.
Quick question. I just used your tutorial to jailbreak my PS3. I've just copied the bioshock disc to the ps3 and then loaded it. It loads then starts installing the game, once completed it works fine. My question is once the games installed is it necessary to keep the copied disc on the internal HDD? currently, i'm using a super slim ps3 in version 4.86 ,with the most updated multiman(version 4.84) and HEN(for version 4.86). I managed to jailbreak the ps3 two months ago and everything worked fine(because of your useful tutorials), but 3 days ago,i updated my HEN and whenever i tried to open mm, my screen went black for a while and the ps3 will eventually shut down itself. When i then turn on my ps3, it says that i have corrupted files or something. I've tried to install the newest system version of my ps3 again but nothing changed. Do you know what the problem is?

Any split games on your USB drive which have internal data installed will still need the USB plugged in, unless you transfer the full game internally.

Have you ever did a tutorial by accident because you did it already (or similar) in the past? Before you make a tutorial video, do you check to see what you have done previously so you are not repeating it again (unless intentionally)? I know I have to catch myself sometimes on this lol
That rarely happens to me! I more have the opposite issue where I've done something hundreds of times to the point where I'm sure I made a tutorial on it, but I look and see I didn't. Exactly how this video came about!
SHIT MAN! If I would've known that it was THIS easy for PS#, I wouldn't have gone with modding a 360 last month. I still haven't even started the mod because I don't have very much luck with cracking toys open and getting them back together in the original shape lol - the PS# exploit is soooo simple... well I got a new plan for this month and the 360 will have to be a project for fun because I will have the ps3 as my main system :)

can you split the game and then install it onto the hdd like you did with the disk and play it withought the usb? if not would it just be better to transfer the 8 gig file using winscp n then you can play it stait off the hdd without a usb or disk installed? or would you always need to have a disk inserted?
What happens when i want to copy a game with a splitted file to the internal hdd? Should i launch it from the usb drive first, that multiman joins the splitted files to one on the hdd and then copy all other files except of the splitted ones manually?

I just did a PS3 Hen with my slim. How can I get my Multiman (Hen Version) games appear on homescreen? I copied 2 games to the internal storage (One from a disk and one from USB) and they dont auto show up in the Homescreen like most installed games would. Installed pkg files for PS2 Classic and those show up just fine. Is this the standard having to go into Multiman then loading the game then having to go to home screen to launch? Or is there a way for them to all display? I get that a HEN is not the ideal way but my only choice with model PS3 I have.

Fat32 has a 32 GB maximum partition size. You can use up to a 2 TB external hard drive, you can even have it formatted with whatever filesystem you want. Just create partitions on the hard drive, up to 64 partitions formatted to fat32 with 32 GB max size for each partition. (2048 GB ÷ 32 GB = 64 fat32 partitions.)

thanx for the awesome video as usual bro ,i just have a question abouut the ftp methode ,idk why but when i try to send files from pc to ps3 using ftp the maximum transfer speed i can get is 500 kb/second ,i even used the cable to see if it's gonna be any better but it's still the same ,and i also get errors and the connexion gets disconnected between the pc and ps3 ,any ideas ?
Can i ask, how do you send files from your pc to ps3? Did you use any cable or something?
Sounds like an issue with your network settings on your PC.
