#cooking #vegan #burrito - ZĂĄbava
This is the first time Iâve ever commented on a CZcams video⊠ever⊠but I felt like I needed to say this! I make a point to not watch your new uploads right away, I save them until Iâm having a bad day because they literally never fail to make me smile. This morning I was feeling kinda iffy and as soon as you said âwhatâs up everyoneâ I was grinning ear to ear. Thank you for all you do, both for the vegan community and for people in general đ
Thanks for the comment. Glad I made ya smile!
Ditto! I often save them for a âdown dayâ. đ
Oh my goodness. Me too. I specifically watched this video today because I was sad and wanted to be happy. You make me happy too Derek.
So well said. Love the positive energy and your recipes are the bomb. Proud to be Canadian !!
Watch them immediately just turn down the volume and click the LIKE button, it helps his algorithm and income!!!
You make vegan cooking a pure delight and inspiration. Thanâ you.
I've got one for you....sweet potatoes, salsa, black beans, fresh corn, avocado, and cilantro. It's good with or without rice. I live on burritos as much as possible and yeah, soy curls ROCK. Normally I toast my tortillas on an open flame briefly on one side before I fill 'em. It keeps the moisture inside while adding that texture and yumminess. I will try your sealing-the-ends technique first thing tomorrow. I find it amusing that someone in New Mexico is watching someone in Canada make burritos. Hah! Thanks for the video! Good stuff!
Soy curls are the best! Before I met my boyfriend he would only eat meat and potatoes! (I'm not kidding) ...Two years into the relationship and he's replaced 70% of his meat intake with vegan substitutes and soy curls (marinated/seasoned and baked in the oven) are one of his favourites!
Also all three of those burritos look delicious! :)
Is there any difference between TVP and soy curls? I mean when it comes to marinating and cooking - just the whole process. Here in germany i can only find classic tvp. And can u give me some recommendations for the marinating/seasoning?
@@xxxxxxx82736 soy curls can just be soaked in cold/warm/ hot water or marinated in any flavor profile you like. I like to add just a bit of vinegar or lemon juice to a strong broth. Mustard and/or vegan Worcestershire are great instead of vinegar. Just soak the soy curls in a generous amount of the marinade for as long as you like, squeeze out the excess liquid and sautee or bake them. I even bread and chicken fry them. Wonderful!! With tvp I would make the same marinade and use just enough to make the tvp as soft as you like it While sauteeing it.
so happy that u r showing ppl that there r sooooo many good food to eat as a vegan . thank u again for the recipes.
Something chewy for the last one I would say mushrooms! Maybe thick portobello slices. They all look great ~
Tried it today - gardein chicken, black beans, daiya, tomato, onion, avocado & cilantro - gotta work on my rolling, but otherwise it was AWESOME!!!! Thank you for showing us this!!!!!
I was going to say that gardein chicken or the Morningstar chorizo would give it that chewy texture!
Roasted potatoes go perfectly with the pepper, onion, and beans. I make it a couple of times a week! Usually just roast all the veggies together on the oven at 425 for 15-20 minutes while the rice is cooking!
Great idea!
Love when you put your RECIPES and directions underneath so we can have them for us beginners
Loved this video! Derek, you missed the ultimate closing line though, âthatâs a wrap!â đ
đBRAVO! đ
Bahahaha đ đ đ
I do the breakfast burrito with a spanish style rice with black beans, tofu scramble with veggies, and taco sauce or salsa. Very good!
Yum! Which rice do you use? I dont like brown riceđ€ą
@@sunflower8599 ...I like the Paella parboiled medium grain by Mahatma.
Taco sauce = most underrated condiment
I used the tofu, some cooked peppers, onion, and garlic, and I browned some left over mashed potatoes that I had. Put them in the burrito. I rolled it up like suggested - awesome tip.
Gave it to carnivore husband who loved it! âIt tastes like it had egg in it!.â He loved it. Thank you for the tofu marinade recipe!
Hey Derek. Here's a little tip I use for sealing burritos. Just before you finish the roll, dip your finger in some water and lightly wet the inner side of the closing edge of the tortilla. The water will allow the gluten to act as a glue that seals the burrito more securely especially when it hits the pan.
And then the gluten will lead to zonulin which leads to leaky gut, inflammation, disease, and a shitty life.
Another trick-- instead of microwaving the tortilla, you can just put it straight on the heat source and move it around a bit for 10 seconds, on the flame or electric stove. Right over a flame is how they soften tortillas in Latin America.
I would hit that like button more than 100 times if i could... u r awesome
Omg. That funnel folding technique is a game change!
For crunch in the bean burrito, try sliced radish! Goes really good with Mexican inspired foods. And diced sweet onions. Not cooked.
Burritoâs are fire, recently ive been craving tacos id love to see your versions of tacos
He's made them before. Within the last year, i would say.
Do the same thing without the folding. lol
Here is a really good and simple taco recipe he did. He made it for dinner so it's near the end of the video. czcams.com/video/dtAr-d0ZcKA/video.html
Saucy tacos!
Thank you, Derek!
Try lime juice and sundried tomato in white basmati rice next time!
That sounds really good!
One of the best demonstrations of wrapping a burrito neatly! Thank you for sharing! :)
Love your personality. Thanks for being funny and inspiring me to cook plant based food đ
19:59 your spatula is smiling!!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I found the soy curls and I made them today. They are a game-changer!! Thanks for introducing them! I seasoned them with smoky paprika, liquid smoke, liquid aminos, and nutritional yeast. The result is the best vegan bacon I've ever eaten! I can't wait to make a vegan BLT!
Where did you buy them?
@@MrDONTEATUS oh wow she didn't bother to answer you. I can't find them either
@@americantroy77 I order them direct from the company and you can also get them on Amazon đ
@@marsfran55 thank you
@@MrDONTEATUS We found them at our local Mexican grocery store. They were in the area with all the hanging bagged products, like dried peppers and spices. They called them soy meat, and the pieces are a little smaller than what he used in the video.
They look awesome. Thanks for the ideas. Thought I would pass on a tip. I have been putting my garlic powder and onion powder half and half in a shaker bottle. Then you have it alrwady mixed. đ
Derek I love all of your videos and have seen them multiple times. Love your friendly, bright personality! It is exactly what we need at this time. I especially love the videos with you and Crystal! You guys have a great vibe! Keep it up!
Not sure I've ever paid as close attention to anything as I did when you folded that breakfast burrito to perfection! Will out that to good use soon!.
Thanks as always!
"Wow, these high-protein vegan burritos are a game-changer! đ I just whipped up a batch for lunch, and they were a hit with my taste buds AND my wallet. Thanks for sharing the easy recipe - you're a lifesaver! đŻđ #VeganDeliciousness"
Amazing! Thanks for watching and commenting. So glad you like my recipes.
Add Hash-brown( cook in air fryer for crunch) and scrambled eggs. I like that combo with beans.
Thanks for the tips, especially the wrapping, I was doing it the wrong way.
Always love seeing what you guys are up to in the kitchen, thanks for the great content and awesome vibes!
Thank you for the friendly comment! Have a great weekend.
This is perfect timing--we just bought some wraps and are in need of recipe ideas! Also, my three year old son just took one look at the three burritos on the plate and wanted them all đ
Haha you've got some cooking to do! The three year old has good taste. Lol.
Awesome! I learned how to wrap the burritos correctly and amazing fillings. Perfect for planning the meals for the week!
I love your energy! You have such a great positive vibe in all your videos. The food ideas are pretty awesome too!
Agreed! My love for food has only increased since going vegan đ€€ This video is super helpfulâŠso many ideas and tips. Looking forward to wrapping and grilling the burrito from your instructions. Also, you inspired me to finally try soy curls. Canât wait đ
Exactly THIS !! natural whole foods are so packed full of intense flavor it's like flavor bombs going off in your mouth with the different textures and flavours and bursts of juiciness from veggies and fruits đ© Amazing

EXACTLY!!!!!!! đđœđđđœ
I can not wait to try these burritos! And thanks for showing us, so clearly, how to wrap them correctly.
Love that you give it an honest and relatable review! đđ definitely going to try all of them
I liked the tofu recipe, it was more straightforward than others I've seen. And thanks for the burrito rolling tutorial lol
Wow yâall out did yâall selves on this meal this looks amazing đ€© I will certainly make this. Thanks for sharing â€ïž
I love your videos, yOu can tell youâve been vegan for awhile because you know what products are best and how to use them. Iâll keep watching. Thank you!
You have guided me through cooking and nutrition I am so thankful that you are here on the internet
Iâve decided to make burritos tonight
I want to try the second one with buffalo sauce instead of bbq, looks good!
Oh yea that would be the best! Hard to find without some weird stuff in it though.
@@Simnettnutrition hmmm... time for u to make us un-wierd buffalo sauce recipe eh?
We love flavoring our rice while it cooks. The top fav in my household is curried rice. Just stir in some curry powder to taste but I think you could also mix in some of your favorite curry paste with the water and cook the rice in that as well.
As for the bean burritos why not fajita or taco flavored soy curls, tofu or tempeh to add in?
So many good ideas there. Thank you!
Canât wait to try these! My mouth was watering đ Thanks for always giving such great content. Love you and Crystal đ„°
i'm making at least one of these tomorrow!! looks sooo amazing. your channel is a gift to the world :D
Hey I appreciate the recipes man, with a lot of your other recipes I tend to not have all the ingredients, but here you used many common ingredients, especially in the dinner burrito. Keep it up man!
once again, awesome dishes & flavours. Thanks
Thanks for the tips. Looks amazing đ€©
Pico de Gallo on your bean burrito instead of the cooked veggies is my favorite way.
Those look so delicious! I need to make these!
LOVING the veggie prep ASMR đ ... And, love you and Crystal always đ
Wow, great ingredients. Thanks for sharing!
When you have all the ingredients and know what to cook! Thanks Derek. This video a game changer.
AMAZING BURRITOS! Love your food creations & personality, Derek! :)
This is awesome! Thanks for the tips đ
You are the best ! Thanks for this recipes
The Daiya cheese blocks are definitely wayyy better than the shreds.
Wish I could find them where I live, only tried the shreds and didn't think they were bad.
@@denisea.9033 they improved their shreds a while ago and I think theyâre good now. So many vegans have a poor opinion of them just because of how they were years ago.
@@MichaelMcNeeley that's good to know; thanks for sharing!
Iâve had their new shreds, but am not a fan. Parmela shreds are my fave.
đ€ą fake cheese is so gross. I prefer the real (and natural) cheese đ§
the videos are always so good.. so I'll press the like button already while watching the intro:)
Thank you so much friend. I appreciate it. I do put lots of effort/time and take lots of pride in my finished work. So I appreciate you recognizing that. Much love brother.
Live the rolling tips! Thank you đ„°
They all look amazing! Canât wait to try them!
I always had a problem with the wings when I folded a burrito. I'm definitely going to try your technique!
Those smoked apple sage sausages are FIRE. I love them so much. Iâm moving more toward whole food vegan but I donât think Iâll be giving these up. I love them on salads
Looks great. Love watching your videos, and yiu of course
These look amazing. Going to try one today and I can't wait to try your wrap/roll technique. I have been doing it the way you used to... Your videos are great and your recipes are great but I have to tell you my favorite part is how happy you are when you eat! I love to eat good food and I always wait to see you taste ..... then either smile, close your eyes or bounce when you eat! Its so endearing!
My favorite thing about your cooking is that you're not delusional like "oh yeah eggs and cheese and meat are gross, plain tofu and grass is delicious". You actually come up with delicious tasting vegan alternatives so you don't have to miss out on enjoying your meals. Well done!
SautĂ©ed mushrooms would be a great addition that would be chewy đ
Great idea thank you!!
So many great ideas!
Amazing as always Derek!!
As a self proclaimed Burrito connoisseur, I will make all of these and enjoy it 100%.
Thanks for the great burrito ideas. I am lovin home fried potatoes with onions and peppers and beans with or without rice for the breakfast ones. With avocado and salsa of course. đ
Oooh that sounds really good and I have some beautiful orange peppers to use up, I'm going to try these. Thanks for the idea!
Oh my these look amazing! I canât wait to make them. đ
Just made versions of these! Amazing! Thank you
Definitely want to make the bean one first but they all look so good
THANK YOU for showing how to roll the burrito properly lol mine always have the "wings" so I'm going to try this technique!
Loved your recipes!đđđ
This was awesome! Thank you so much!
If there were a contest for Cutest Canuck, Iâd vote for you! đ Thanks for the great recipes.

At 20 minutes when you're spooning around the beans in the pan there is a smiley face made from sauce on the spatula!
The happiest meals are vegan đ
Thank you! I was starting to think I was the only one that saw that!
Thank you for posting this! I was feeling SO discouraged andddd I was thinking about counseling! This video was a blessing. God bless you đđœ
Excellent attention and explanations of the details!
I've had burritos where the rice was a but crunchy, so maybe frying off the rice a bit to give it a bit of crunch/texture... I might try that
oooooh i'll def try that!
Thank you so much for introducing me to soy curls! I purchased the kind you recommended from Amazon and it has been a GAME changer for me after becoming bored with regular old tofu! The texture is amazing and I love coming up with new uses for them!
That is by far my favourite video!!!Thank you for the recipes!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your recipes for us beginners
Some kind of dense mushroom would be good for the last one. Shiitake or king oyster etc đȘ
Just ordered my soy curls!!!! :D I got them many years ago and completely forgot. I am so excited to make the lunch burrito!
Wonderful. I love all your cooking tips. I've always wondered how to seal burritos like that. Those all look soooo good. I plan to try one tomorrow. YUM
I love this and your egg salad vlog.
Can't wait to make them both.
Thank you so much for these great ideas. I'm still on the hunt for a good gluten free wrap. Haven't had much success so far. Everything rips apart of the ones I have tried. These multiple recipes take a lot of work to make and film and I really appreciate all the tips. Hugs from Toronto.
Totally feel your pain on the gluten free tortillas. I cant find one that doesn't crack either. đ
Quick update on that. Ive been on a burrito kick all week! đ Ive been using 'LaTortillaFactory' ivory teff wraps. I cant fold them on all four sides but ive been folding them lenghtwise (open ends like a taquito) and grilling it seam down to seal it so it wont unroll. (Pretty hot pan for at about 3 minutes) You could wrap the bottom in foil to eat it one handed, but i just ate 'em on a plate with fork an knive. đ€€
@@TheCoookieCrumb thatâs awesome. Thanks so much. Iâll look for those.
Not sure it will work, but look into KitchenAid's attachment that makes wraps out of sweet potatoes, etc.
Not sure it will work, but look into KitchenAid's attachment that makes wraps out of sweet potatoes, etc.
Edit: there is a stand-alone one at Walmart. I want to say it was about $20.
The soy curls are really good if you soak them in chick-un broth instead of just water! These are great ideas for burritos, thanks!
Said it before, gonna say it again....Your's are my FAVe vegan vids to watch and you have recipes - especially your sauces and your burritos!! Keep em coming our way!
Thanks a lot for the folding method. I have always struggled with this part. Have a nice day, and by the way, very good recipes you spread out through your videos.
here's what I'd improve about the dinner one to give it some bite: French fries inside
I got them inside a veggie burrito at a local burrito place once and I haven't ordered a burrito without them since.
It goes a long way, especially at a burrito place where the option's usually a bit mushy
I'm so freaking hungry right now. Everything looks so freaking YUMMY!
Thank you so much for your commitment to health and for exponentially widening my versatility in healthful, plant based cooking!! I am so very thankful for your videos.
Great ideas, Thank you for sharing
Hey Derek, you pronounce Kala correctly. Namak is pronounced - Num-uck ('num'ber, d'uck')
I was just listening as I was cooking and I heard him say KalaNamak. I was like what Egyptian sounding ingredient is this?
In his defense, he said it well based on how it was written. I still died laughing đ
I love the soy curls! They are available on Amazon. And keep in mind they are only cooked soy beans, period. and since they are dried you get a lot of edible product from one 8 oz pkg.
You have become my ultimate go-to for all my recipes. All my other recipe books have now become doorstops. Thank you, you rock.
Thank you for this awesome video and all of your positivity! Thanks to you, we just enjoyed soy curls for the first time! They are SO good!
Food tubes are life.
Not exactly a tortilla but a brand "Indianlife" makes good organic wraps. They wrap well as long as they are heated first, they do have some oil in ingredients but no sugar!
'Food tubes' haha, I love it.
